Cozy Winter Bedroom Decor Ideas
For Winter Decor, Use Lots of Texture!
When you use subtle colors for winter decor, you should use plenty of texture. This new-to-me gray with golds coverlet and shams (a church sale find) harmonizes softly with our subtle yellow wallpaper. I decided to use grays with golds, whites and mossy greens for a soothing atmosphere that will transition smoothly into early spring.
On the chippy shelf above our bed, {“Mantle Shelf with Fall Textures”}, I brought out all my thrift store silver. I really love it’s tarnished texture and subtle sheen in the winter. I added a few gold covered books with their parchment paper sides facing out {“Decorating with Books 101 and Beyond”} for different levels. I had a couple extra yarn balls from my living room centerpiece to use, too {“Easy Yarn Ball Centerpiece How To”}. They fit perfectly nestled into the sugars and creamers. To top off all that texture palooza, I added some old turned spindles from the garage at the center. I should maybe add a string of glimmer lights, too…
I love how some of the coffeepots almost have a gold tinge in their tarnish. Can’t say I’ve ever styled them with yellows before; it’s kind of a nice gray/gold combo!
Textural Winter Accents = Tarnished Silver, Paper, Yarn, Character-Rich Wood, Pottery, Glassware, Foliage
Above our big, primitive linens cupboard is another collage of subtle textures, using the same color scheme. I guess I used brown, too;)
The clock was a fairly recent find, and the suitcases are from a treasured relative. I started collecting vintage pottery pieces when I received quite a few pieces from my grandma. My eye keeps finding them now. I love their subtle textures, and they’re perfect with artificial succulents. Combining the succulents with the yarn balls helps these vignettes go from winter to early spring. I love these subtle colors together, with the pretty branchy wallpaper as a backdrop.
Use Architectural Pieces as Backdrops for Flexible Styling
I don’t have any architectural backdrops in this room, but I relocated our family pic from the “Bedspring Family Photo Wall” display to here. Yep…I get bored easily;) When I took it all down to create the “Bedspring Shiny Brite Tree, Aqua Version”, I decided to switch it up. That’s the beauty of hanging architecture as a backdrop; you can switch up your displays anytime without putting more nails in your walls! In this room, however, the wallpaper is busy enough, and I don’t want to cover it up!
Plus, I like the coloration of the photo with the room colors and the black signs add a nice outline to the room.
Use Black as an Outline to Add Dimension to a Room
My plate wall wreath continues, but I placed a couple more recent finds in the middle for a little change. I’ll probably add leaves again once spring arrives {“Adding Foliage to a Plate Wall Display”}, because that was a fun look!
I enjoyed this birdcage with milkglass so much when I posted “12 Ways to Decorate a Vintage Birdcage for Winter”, I had to leave it’s prettiness right here on our refreshed and improved family piece {“Refreshing a Family Heirloom}. For a little romance at night, we can enjoy candlelight glowing from the the milkglass vessels (yea…right;)
Our room is so cozy and inviting for winter! It makes crawling in at night very appealing…and getting out of bed on a -29 day…not!
Do you add wintertime texture and styling to your bedroom? It’s fun to decorate a different kind of room than just your main living spaces. But of course, these decorating ideas can be used in any room of your home. Most of these accessories were all found secondhand, so they didn’t cost a fortune. Stylish surroundings can be quite affordable when you shop at thrift stores, church and garage sales! Hope these cozy winter bedroom decor ideas inspire you to add some pretty to your home!
