Adding Foliage to a Plate Wall Display
If you do a quick search on Pinterest of “Plate Wall Displays” you will be greeted with a beautiful array of gorgeous plate arrangements! There are all kinds of plates in all kinds of shapes and forms, with all kinds of backdrops. Every style from modern to cottage to farmhouse is represented. Because I am the proud owner of enough dishes to “Feed the five-thousand”, as Mr. Fix-it says, I of course have my own Plate Wall Display…so far just in our bedroom;) I hung this arrangement last Christmas as a backdrop for our bedroom tree {“A Sweetly Vintage Christmas Bedroom“}. Since taking off it’s burlap bow for Christmas, it’s looked a little…empty. As I was styling for my “Three Ways to add Foliage to Your Styling” post, I decided to add some foliage to the plate wall display as well!
Here’s how it looked in it’s plain-ness:
All the plates I chose are in the same color family as our wallpaper. I have a nice assortment of designs and plain plates along with textures. I used old fashioned plate hangers on the backs, because they’re nice and cheap at secondhand sales!
I still have extra leaves left from the “Leafy Placemats” I made a few months ago. I think these were actually left from the hydrangeas from my sister’s wedding wreaths I made…10 years ago? Guess I never part with good raw materials for creativity!
I simply stuck the leaves in here and there and wedged them between the plates and wall. Instant summer wreath for the wall!
Couldn’t be an easier way to decorate a wall! And cheap too, since all these plates probably weren’t more than a couple bucks a piece! It’s making me think I need a couple more Wall Plate displays around here…
Once the mantle shelf was displayed with foliage over the bed and the plate wall all gussied up with the leaves, I decided to add a little more to the big, white linen cupboard top. A little foliage, a mantle clock I just picked up at a church sale, and the pretty bird vase you saw last year in my “Green Depression Glass and a Little Junk for a Garden Party”.
The only thing left for the summer bedroom attire is to refresh a damask bedspread. That project involves my sewing machine and many yards of some cute yellow and white gingham. Good project once Happy Girl is home from school to help me (she’s the good sewer in the family)!
Do you have a Wall Plate Display in your home somewhere? Maybe add some extra texture, like some leaves, to add dimension and interest! Can you think of any other textures that would be fun to add? I love simple changes like this that bring a display into a new season. Seasonal changes don’t always have to be a big project! Simply add some extra leaves to your Wall Plate Display!
Sharing at these lovely parties:
Lora, if you only knew how many plates hang in my house–but none with leaves! Love it! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm!
I’m sure, Cecilia! We can’t eat on all of them, right;)?
I liked this idea. I have been collecting old plates, vases, cups, etc. and even a few pictures with big, cabbagey pink roses on them for several years; need to find more plate hangers SOON. I want a plate wall in my daughter’s old bedroom which has pale pink walls. I figure it will go well with my growing milk glass collection (another ADDICTION!). Maybe this s ummer when it is hot upstairs and the cellar feels like air conditioning!
That would be just beautiful, Kathy! I love the idea of pink cabbage rose dishes all displayed on a pink wall. Definitely search “Plate Wall Display” on Pinterest for arrangement ideas! Good luck!
