  3. Your birdcages made me smile. Hubby and I were going to town in his dully pickup truck and I see “free” I told him quick turn around. Well we are on a Hill and he had to park on the street w/ flashers. And I am running across the street to get this bird cage. The bird cage was huge over 30 lbs and so I had to run across the street, with cars coming, and put that heavy “treasure” into the back of the pick up ……. The top does not come off but it does have a small door in front , I painted it flat black , it was so rusty and because it is over 2 ft. tall I want to use it in my garden/patio area. Thank you for the picture ideas for bird cages

    1. Lora Bloomquist says:

Oh, you sound like me, Linda! Amazing I haven’t gotten hit running across streets for junk! I always repeat to myself what I learned in kindergarten…”stop, look, and listen”! Your birdcage sounds fabulous! I saw a huge one like that when I was vintage shopping in Denver and unfortunately couldn’t bring it back on the airplane:( Hope another comes across my path someday. Have fun styling it!

I’m glad it got saved in time, Christy! So much decorative potential!

I so often take for granted what Lora (my wife) is able to arrange and display with what she’s collected over the years. As you’ve seen in her creative posts, her ideas and inspiration with all this funky stuff is so amazing to our family and I’m sure the followers of her blog as well. Our house is routinely ‘made-over’ with new arrangements for each season or just because she has an ‘eye’ for display that is often quite unique. Let me tell you from first-hand experience her creative ideas throughout our house is what makes it a home.
Keep it up…from your husband with love.

    1. Lora Bloomquist says:

      Aw, thanks, honey;)

  8. Lora! Holy Smokes girl! This was such a fun post! I LOVED seeing all your creative ways to decorate a vintage bird cage and could never choose a favorite! They are all amazing!

    1. Lora Bloomquist says:

It was a fun one for me to do too, so I’m glad you enjoyed it! But I seriously made a mess of my house, pulling stuff out from everywhere! I’ve been recovering ever since;) I’m already thinking what else I could do this kind of post on!

  9. Well, when your decor is in all the flea market style magazines, just rememeber…I told ya so!
This is yet another fabulous and creative post full of fresh, vintage decorating ideas! Using birdcages for winter is wonderful! Of course I love the sheet music, but the colorful candles look amazing too. I love all the displays!

I have been thinking of bringing my large, rusty birdcage in from the garden for a while, and now I am really inspired.

Thank you so much for joining our hop. Stay cozy dear friend!

    1. Lora Bloomquist says:

Oh Amber, you should bring it in for the winter at least! Course, then you have to find a spot for it;) And yes, if magazines are in my future, I’d be plenty happy about that; I’ve been a magazine junky my whole life! It’s so fun to hear everyone’s favorites!

  10. Would you believe I had a birdcage but got rid of it when we downsized over 5 years ago! You came up with some great ideas, but my favorite was the one with the bunting and the one with a cloche in it.

    1. Lora Bloomquist says:

I loved the simplicity of the one with the cloche too, Carol! I can’t imagine parting with a birdcage, but I’m sure whoever got yours was plenty happy!

  11. Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors says:

Thanks, Janet! These hops always inspire me!

  14. I loved your styiing ideas. I miss having parakeets, but with 2 cats, it is not fair to the poor birds to live in terror! As a miniaturist, I have turned several birdcages into “conservatories” with stone scrapbook paper for the floor, simple strips of wood to make shelves for the plants and some wire wicker furniture for decor! Never used battery powere fairy lights, but I think that would be awesome, too.I also tried using a small cage for ribbon storage with the ends of the ribbons comingout through the “slats” but was less than thrilled. As I am the “Queen of Cram”, filling a birdcage with “stuff” and hanging it would be one more storage solution at this house!

    1. Lora Bloomquist says:

Your miniatures sound fun, Kathy! And yes, I didn’t hang any for this post, but you could totally hang them also!

    2. Oooh, I love the idea of using the mini wire wicker furniture! I have a collection, but wasn’t sure how to display it. I even have the mini wire birdcages. 😻

      1. Lora Bloomquist says:

        Glad it inspired you, Devra!

  15. I love all your birdcages (wish I had one) but I love the one with the little bunting best of all.

    1. Lora Bloomquist says:

Thanks, Vikki! That one was a fun one!I think there’s one in your future;)
