Decorate with Vintage Glassware for Valentines Day
Valentine’s day is a romantic celebration. It’s the perfect time to pull out your grandma or mom’s beautiful glassware. Or if you don’t have nostalgic pieces, find them secondhand. Red and pink glassware, anything depicting roses, and stemmed sherbets and glasses should all get their day in the sun for Valentine’s.
My newly found red transferware got paired with thrifted Ruby Red Thumbprint glasses in my Valentine’s Day hutch display. The sunshine looks so pretty shining through these pretty pieces. Definitely chases away the winter gloom!

Miniature frames of roses, vintage postcards and old magazine covers can be tucked throughout Valentine decor. Place them in small plate holders, stick them in old metal flower frogs or clip them to clipboards and lean. They don’t have to be exclusively Valentine’s Day; just have a romantic style.
Add Different Heights for Pretty Hutch Decor Display
The key for styling a beautiful Valentine’s display is to add different heights to all the elements. Use old books, new and old cake plates, wooden boxes…whatever you can find in your home to make your hutch or display more interesting.
I corralled my vintage red books and used some of them laying, some standing. Several dollar spot cake plates in red and pink add the perfect new punch to the old. Even the rustic wood slice cake plate adds a wonderful rustic element to the shiny glassware.

Flowers and Fillers for a Final Valentine Decor Touch
Once you’ve filled your display with pretty dishes, different heights and Valentine-inspired art, it’s time to finish your display with textural touches. Fresh flowers are the perfect indulgence for Valentine’s decor. With a couple of bunches from your local grocery store, you can create several mini arrangements in bud vases. Tuck them here and there throughout your display for pretty.
You can also add small decorative accessories with a Valentine theme. I added old heart cookie cutters and a sweet willow figurine my mom had given me years ago.
Add other textural fillers, too. Shredded paper, rolled vintage music and conversation candy hearts all add texture to the smooth glassware and make the scene more festive. I also hung a vintage linen tablecloth from a wicker basket for textural punch.

I just love the way you decorate. And you really outdid your Valentine’s. Well done, my friend.
I appreciate your kind words, Cynthia; thank you!
Your hutch display is perfect. I have some blue and brown transferware but been wanting red for a long time. Our home is for sale so not buying anything to pack but if it doesn’t sell when the listing is up I think I will. also really like your ruby glassware but my favorite is the red handled cookie cutter. Mom had a round one without the fluting she used to cut biscuits. I miss her on ❤️ day. She was a single mom so I always got her something special on that day. Your Willow tree girl reminded me. So sweet.
Love all of your pink and red dishes Lora! Hope you have a nice Valentines Day!
Thanks, Cindy!
I LOVE this, Lora!! Everything about it is so pretty…the flower frogs, the books, the DISHES! Omg you got SO LUCKY with that set of transferware! I actually went to Trader Joes myself today and picked up some flowers…they smell SO GOOD and add that bit of cheer that you were talking about. Your hutch is such a lovely place to decorate for the seasons!
Trader Joes flowers are essential mental health medicine at this stage of winter;) Thanks, Rachel, it was fun to play with all the pretties!
Love this post.
Thank you!
Lora, your hutch all decked out for Valentine’s Day is gorgeous. The transferware and vintage elements are perfect. You know how much I love a styled cabinet/hutch/cupboard!! Beautiful, pinned to my Valentine’s board on Pinterest.
Thanks, Debra! I always enjoy seeing how you beautifully style yours for the seasons, too!
As I scroll through all your ideas, I find I have some of those things. You always inspire me and give me wonderful ideas. Even though I live alone I still like to decorate for holidays like this one.
I’m so glad to hear that, Marlene. I’d decorate for the seasons if I lived alone, too! Have fun:)
I enjoyed this very much! I, too, have a new china hutch to play with and will be using your ideas to decorate it.
Lucky, you, Michelle! Have fun:)
