Start with An Elegant Platter
To give your charcuterie display an elegant vibe, start with a pretty platter, rather than the normal cutting board. I chose a pretty detailed-edged square silver platter as a shiny base. Scale your foundation to the size of party you are having.
Charcuterie boards are usually comprised of finger foods, but I decided to accompany mine with a self-serve sundae bar also.
To begin, I placed 3 small milkglass pieces for 2 sprinkle toppings and whipped cream. They gave the platter a focal point, which made it easier to display the elements around. Using pedestals can make your display more interesting.
{Weaving ribbon through the holes in dishes was just one of the ideas in “ 10 Pretty Ways to Decorate with Vintage Milkglass”.}
Place Your Largest Desserts First
Offer a variety of homemade and/or store bought cookies and bars. I made scratch brownies and cut them into small squares, purchased heart cookies from Ikea, and had dark chocolate-covered pretzels. “Face” cookies to the inside to create a focal point.
Display Fresh Berries Next
Offering fresh fruit enables even the most strict nutritionists a treat. Plus, fresh berries are as beautiful as fresh flowers; nature does it best. The bold colors and different texture of the berries are a great contrast to the cookies and bars.
I added a simple strawberry heart to the whip cream for pretty.
Finish Off the Dessert Charcuterie with Candy
A variety of candy finishes off the charcuterie display beautifully. Some can be wrapped and some loose. They add that “fun” factor to the whole look. Fill in the gaps between the cookies and the fruit.
Here’s a nice variety:
- chocolate covered nuts/raisins
- gummy candy hearts
- wrapped chocolates (foil adds a nice texture)
- fancy jelly beans
- hard candy
Accompany with Ice Cream or Gelato
You could serve your Valentine Dessert Charcuterie alone, or pull out some fancy ice cream or gelato to go with. Let guests serve themselves and add toppings as they prefer.
The wonderful part of this dessert is the ease of it. You can have most of the elements all ready on the platter and just pull out the cold items when serving.
Offer pretty dessert plates and saucers, spoons and festive napkins, and you’re all set! Your guests will be amazed at the beauty, and happy with the various options.
