5 Spring Decorating Ideas for the Bedroom
When you make seasonal decor changes to your home, are they limited to the main living areas? So often people switch up their decor in their living and family rooms, and even in their kitchen. But how about your private spaces, like your bedroom? Beautiful spaces are as much for your own enjoyment and sense of comfort as they are to your guests. Adding seasonal touches to your bedroom can put a smile on your face when you wake up and be a warm welcome when you hit the hay at night. Here are 5 Spring Decorating Ideas for the Bedroom to bring some pretty to your private space!
5 Spring Decorating Ideas for the Bedroom
Switch Up Your Bedding for Spring
You don’t have to use the same bedspread and bedding all through the year! I’m sure you wear different clothes for different seasons, why can’t your bed have a seasonal attire change too? Fold up your heavy, dark colored bedding and tuck it in a closet. Pick up something fresh and bright at the thrift store or nab a cute vintage one at an estate sale. Church sales are a great place to get cheap, secondhand bedding and they’re in season right now! {For insider tips, check out “3 Things to Look for at the Thrift Store”, “Estate Sales 101 and Insider Tips”, “Church Sales 101”}
This spring our bed is sporting a lightweight chenille dotty spread. I’ve completely forgotten where I picked it up, but wanted to enjoy it out in the open, rather than stored away in a closet. It’s not perfect; there are holes I want to patch, but do I care? I’m enjoying it as is! It’s currently popped on top of our down comforter, because it’s still pretty chilly here.
And no…I didn’t take the time to iron it either, because I knew it would get all wrinkly again. Going for the Rachel Aswell Shabby-chic look! Use the bedspread as your launching pad to choose an accent color.
Choose a Seasonal Accent Color for Spring Decorating
It can be fun to use a different accent color in your room that you don’t normally use. I decided to run with the purple found in this vintage spread and repeat it around the room. Learn more tips on adding an accent color in “Styling Tip: Using an Accent Color”. Throughout the year, I choose one seasonal color to feature in our bedroom. I’ve used orange, peacock blue, green, rhubarb, and now purple! I repeat the color in the bedding, on accessories and with the foliage. It gives the room a whole new look and enables me to enjoy a lot of my pretty vintage finds and hand-crafted projects.
For more purple, I brought out a couple of my vintage button pillows to add to the flower garden of mix and match pillows. From groovy 60’s pillowcases to vintage striped ticking pillow covers, the mix and match combination harmonizes with the springtime color scheme.
For Accessories, Style With a Favorite Collection
Since I wanted to decorate with my hand-crafted “DIY Herbs Bunting”, I was thinking of the theme, “Spring Thyme”. Vintage alarm clocks coordinated perfectly with that idea, so I spread them around. Using a favorite collection to style with in the bedroom is a wonderful way to enjoy all those great finds! I also used a few pieces of my yellow and green pitcher collection to add to the springtime color combo.
Need a Change? Add a New Piece of Furniture!
A new piece of furniture can breathe life into the whole room! It gives you a reason to have fun with the decorating! If you are limited on space, it can simply be an accent table, or a little side chair. If you have more space, add a storage piece like a dresser or a wardrobe. And if you’re really feeling like you need a jolt of inspiration, add a fun painted piece, like our “Dresser Makeover in Vintage Green”. The vibrance and beauty this piece brought to our mostly neutral room was just what it needed!

Lastly, Add Seasonal Foliage For Spring Decorating in the Bedroom
Using your accent color, sprinkle everlasting foliage around the room. {“Three Ways to Add Foliage to Your Styling”} I like having some real foliage like the ivy, above, combined with some fake. Somehow it all seems more real, or maybe it just tricks the mind. I used a variety of forms, from tucking flower heads in pitchers, to weaving garlands throughout vignettes. I even tucked a few stems into my plate wall display, inspired by the leaves I used last year {“Adding Foliage to a Plate Wall Display”}.
Foliage in all it’s forms is the finishing touch!
Kind of looks like the symphony of spring, doesn’t it? All the birds chirping, the buds popping and the grass greening up in the warm sunshine!
Are the gears in your head turning with ideas? Why don’t you spend a little time taking a look around your bedroom and see which of these ideas you can enlist and try. Freshen up your room with some new seasonal changes, just like you do with your wardrobe. It’ll be such a happier place to wake up to!
