How To: DIY Herbs Bunting
craft this dIY Herbs Garland As a Sweet Spring Decor Accent.
Some days when gardening season just can’t come soon enough, a girl’s gotta do an easy DIY craft to dream about what she wants to plant! I’ve got fresh herbs on the brain lately and was inspired by some watercolor herb images I had in my computer. My back entry bedspring {“Bedspring Fall Styling in the Back Hall”} was calling out for a fresh, springtime look, so I whipped up some easy DIY Herbs Bunting.
I’ll share my Herbs printables with you later, so you can create some for yourself, or for an easy Mother’s Day gift or garden party giveaway.
I placed the wild herbs on 3 different, printable sheets and also made a cute sheet with herb names in springtime colors. I printed them off on white cardstock.
Next I cut them out in random sizes. I don’t want this project to look store-bought with everything matching. I was going for a natural, folk-ish look. They’d make pretty cute cards, wouldn’t they?
I had purchased some cute butterfly burlap for some project (and must have never finished it:), and decided it would be more interesting than plain burlap for the rectangles. I cut out 16-4″x 6″ squares. I pulled some of the threads out all around each square to give them a more rustic look.
I glued each Herb image to a burlap square with tacky glue, laying them on newspaper and weighing them down with heavy books to dry.
With a small hole punch, I added small brads to two of the corners of the herbs images to add dimension. Sewing machine stitching would be a cute addition also, but I was too lazy to get the machine out;) Brads were faster, and this project is supposed to be quick and easy!
With a regular sized hole punch, I punched holes in the top two corners of the burlap and strung 4 of the images together with simple twine. Easy peasy! I really like the punch of the black butterfly burlap behind the soft watercolor herbs.
The 4 sheets of printables make 16 images. I strung 4 images together and have 4 sections of bunting. I had some little bundles of twigs I’d used for styling a while back, and simply tied them onto the end.

This DIY Herbs Bunting would be a wonderful Mother’s Day gift with a potted plant, or a sweet take-home gift for a garden party. My hands can’t dig in the dirt quite yet, but they sure were satisfied with this simple project today!
Sharing at these lovely parties:
I love this bunting idea. I have had the best time lately making buntings/garlands/whatever we call them. That patterned burlap is perfect. I have used some different burlap ribbons and fringed the ends. I made 170 burlap placemats (12 inch burlap made it easy) for my daughter’s last Sept.’s wedding and I’m not quite ready to deal with it again!
I love bunting/garland, too, Kathy. It just adds a little bit of festive to the everyday! 170 placemats? Whew! I don’t blame you!
This is SO pretty. I’m not a big ‘bunting’ gal, but this… this is so pretty and I have not seen one like this! Thanks for sharing at Homestyle Gathering, Lora… You are a blessing!
You’re so welcome, Julie. This little project is fun to bring out each spring!
