My Recent Vintage Finds (and how I’m using them to decorate my home)
Check out my recent vintage finds and how I’m using them in my home decor
Someone I ran into recently (who knew I’d formerly had a vintage store) was surprised when I said I still treasure hunt! You can take the store away from the girl, but the love of vintage runs in my veins! Yes, I’m constantly editing, because just like fashion, my tastes change. Today I’m going to share some of my Recent Vintage Finds and how I’m using them to decorate my home.
I’m joining my Thrifting with the Gals friends today, too! This bunch is a group of Instagram friends who share their thrifting adventures every Wednesday afternoon in their stories. I’ve had the privilege to join them a few times and had so much fun. Today we’re all sharing our finds and how we’re using them in our home decor.
If you’re visiting from White Arrows Home, I bet you’re wanting to add a vintage bicycle to your must-haves list! Kristin sure knows how to make them adorable!

Shopping for vintage just gets me in a good mood. And I’ve needed to keep my spirits up lately. So, I’ve indulged in some treasure hunting. Mr. Fix-it and I took a little vaca to Northern Minnesota. We enjoyed some hiking and the huge pine trees, and hit quite a few local antique stores. Of course I came home with a couple things!
In today’s post I’ll show you how I’ve decorated with some of them, plus some more recent finds I’ve picked up at local vintage shops. And there might be a couple things I picked up in my curbside junking adventures, too. { see “Trash to Treasure: Repurposed Vintage Junk Makeovers”}
Restaurant-Ware, One of My Favorite Recent Vintage Finds
I have to admit, I’m a dish-a-holic. I love old dishes, and my hubs says I could feed the 5000. My latest dish obsession? Old restaurant-ware. Yes, many are into their ironstone, plain white dishes, but give me some chunky old china with a little design around the edge and I’m in heaven.
My plan is to mix and match all these old patterns in the colors I love: greens, grays, aquas, a little pink. That way, if I only find a few of each, it’s okay! You’ll be seeing a Fall table by the campfire set with these “new” dishes soon!
Plaid is Always “In” for Fall
Every Fall my mom would say, “Plaid is In” (style). Because yes, plaid just looks wonderful in the Fall. Whether it’s on your body or in your home, a little bit of plaid gives a graphic punch. On our weekend trip, I found this adorable green and white plaid umbrella with a clear lucite handle. Umbrellas can be a fun home decor accent by simply opening them up and showing off their undersides. They look great high up on a piece of furniture, or propped in the back of a side table display.
This cutie looked adorable in my Back to School living room display {“Fun Vintage School Decor Ideas”}. And also on our wood box side table vignette for Fall {“Decorating the Fall Mantel with Rustic Nostalgia”}.
Good, Vintage Junk are my Favorite Finds
When I’m vintage shopping, the back 40 where all the good, in-the-rough stuff is, is always my favorite. I’m a digger and do not need things all cleaned up to see their decorating potential. I picked up these fun stacked water faucets in one of the shops. I scrubbed them up with a toothbrush and gave them a spray of poly to bring out their patina. They look great next to one of my “DIY Garden Hoses Wreath”.
The wicker planter was found curbside this past Spring. All it needed was a spray from the hose and a little reinforcing to become the perfect table-side planter on our porch! And yes, that adorable patchwork quilt? It came from a church sale and only needed a little mending {“How to Easily Fix an Old Patchwork Quilt”}.
Vintage Pottery was a Fun Find
Just last Sunday after church, Mr. Fix-it and I happened on an estate sale in a big, old, turn-of-the-century house. Getting to go inside those kinds of houses is as much fun as what you find inside;)
We ventured down the super steep steps into the very scary, dirt floor basement. And way at the back end of one of the rooms was a collection of old potting pots. I found quite a few beautiful old pottery planters, and was so excited! My Grandma’s pottery finds got me started on this collection, and I love to display them in the Fall. I think I’m going to mass them in our upstairs built-in bookshelf this year {you can see last year’s look in “Decorating Bookshelves for Fall, The Rule of 3 Multiplied”}.
This old pottery just reminds me of pretty, Fall leaves!
Vintage Buckets are a Decorating Essential
I realized the other day, I have a lot of galvanized old buckets (that I use all the time), but didn’t have any wood buckets. Maybe it was seeing Rachel’s (The Ponds Farmhouse) wood bucket centerpiece on her porch. And wouldn’t you know…I found one when I was shopping at our local vintage occasional shops! Of course I had to immediately fill it with green hydrangeas:)
I’m slowly getting my Fall decor on. My newly crafted “DIY Plaid Flannel Coasters” combine well with Mr. Rooster and our “Repurposed Old Wood Crate Tote Caddy” , full of Harvest magazines to read. I was so excited to pull out my “Fabric Pumpkin Harvest Wreath”; it’s one of my favorite crafting projects. Still need to add some more amber brown bottles to my chicken feeder and pop some grasses in them.

Lora,
I love your style and how you mix things. Love the plaid umbrella. Keep on inspiring us amateurs!
Glad you’re inspired, Barbara!
You found some great treasures! My favorite is the vintage pots. I also love your idea for using an umbrella in a vignette.
You always find great pieces. NJ thrifting isn’t always that good
Wish we had what other states have for finds
I wish you did, too, Cindy! Luckily these days there’s the internet!

Thanks, Margie:)
Lora I love your decor so much that vignette with the umbrella. I’m totally copying this😂😂
I’m sure you have some umbrella’s in your stash, Ann! Have fun:)
I have really missed shopping for old stuff during pandemic. I always send pics of our latest finds to our daughter with the caption “Here’s more useless stuff for you to sort through when I’m gone” 😂 I adore your wood bucket, brings back memories, the planters are gorgeous! and very fall inspiring. Last night my husband and I were reminiscing about the utter charm, comfort and good food we used to enjoy in old fashioned diners. Not chain diners, just mom and pop ones with names like The Sugar Bowl or The Rainbow or Dutch Treat. Local’s restaurants filled with simple, hardworking, quirky people. Your restaurant ware is ALL THAT. Can’t wait to see the table scape.
Lora,
I love seeing your thrifted finds. You are so creative with them. Thanks so much for joining us this month.
