I’m titling this 11+ fillers because I know after I write this I’ll come up with more ideas! To me, the less expensive, crafty fillers are the most fun, but having some purchased materials on hand is great for styling ease, too. Here’s my list to get you started!
1) Shredded Paper
You could purchase bags of crimped paper strips in Spring colors, or you could simply buy your own paper shredder (find HERE) and craft your own! I love to shred old book pages, old music, old maps or kraft brown lunch bags. Use it to fill up a vintage find and then nestle Spring eggs into it.

3) Rolled Paper
When I recently shared my Spring hutch decor, a few of you noticed the rolled vintage music sheets as filler. Easy, peasy! Just take your scotch tape and roll whatever paper you want into little rolls with one end tighter than the other. They can be long or short, depending on where you want to use them. Find vintage music sheets HERE.

3) Springtime Eggs
You can add Springtime eggs anywhere, but you can also place them en masse into a vessel. Perfect for a cloche or a see-through container. You can purchase a large bag of them in multi-colored pastels, or stick with neutrals. Soo Springy! Find eggs HERE. Wooden eggs HERE.

4) Rustic Spheres
Since we’re talking round shapes, spheres or orbs of any kind are wonderful to fill a large vessel. Whether they’re moss, rope, grapevine, or wood sliced, the rustic texture will add beauty to any of your larger accessories. Find HERE.
5) Pebbles
Simple river rocks add a wonderful texture to any vignette. They can also be used to weigh a vessel down if it’s lightweight. They come in a variety of different colorways. I personally like the more natural-looking ones that aren’t shiny. Find them HERE.

6) Fruit, Whole or Slices
Raid the grocery store produce section for edible fillers. Whole lemons, limes or oranges look bright and happy for Spring and will smell delicious. You can also use faux versions for a longer lasting display. Slices of citrus fruits look beautiful when filling a glass vase with water and flowers. Shop faux fruit HERE.

7) Branches
Spring flowering branches are a great introduction to the season, but you can also use bare branches or pussy willow branches for a more rustic look. These work well in tall vessels where you need height. Find Spring branches HERE. Bare branches HERE.

8) Mini Peat Pots
I actually bought these mini peat pots for a project and then realized they’d make a really cute decorative filler! Perfect for garden decor season, you can place them en masse in your container, like this tool caddy. Go extra by adding some of the next idea, too! Find them HERE.
9) Birdseed
Talk about inexpensive and textural! A bag of birdseed can go a long way to making your vignettes beautiful. I love it in a clear glass vessel or in the bottom of a tray. Beware if you have issues with “furry friends” though…this will be like putting out the welcome mat. (don’t ask me how I found this out at my former store) Bonus…you can feed it to the birds after! Find it HERE.
10) Mini Topiaries
Years ago I scored these mini herb topiaries from Pier 1 when they were clearancing them out. I scooped up a bunch, but seriously should have gotten more. They can be popped anywhere! I love them in a cute cup, a vintage flower pot. They’re perfectly sized to fit onto a shelf or in a hutch. I’ve had a hard time finding them but here are similar possibilities: HERE and HERE.

11) Foliage
Obviously you can fill your accessories with faux greenery. Ferns and ivy look Springy, but don’t forget about faux succulents. And of course pretty, realistic flowers will usher in Spring, too. Having a few transitional pots of greenery makes it easy to plop into anything. I am amazed at how often I use the small pots of greenery when I’m decorating. Find similar HERE.

12) Textures as Decorative Fillers for Spring
I knew I’d have more than 11! When styling your home for Spring, make sure to have enough sheet moss, excelsior grass and lichen. These amazing textures add so much to your vignettes. They can completely fill a vessel, set off the foundation of other things, be between the layers, or just be dribbling out of something. They are definitely that cherry on top of your display. Find Moss HERE, exclesior grass HERE, and Lichen HERE.

Lora- As an antiques dealer and as someone who has a booth – the display of items is important to me. You have some great ideas on “fillers” that I can incorporate into my own displays. Thanks for the tips and for the links.
Wonderful; as a former dealer and store owner I know how important display is to your biz! Glad you enjoyed it!
Some great ideas, Lora! I especially love the eggs in the cloche! Very festive🌷
Glad you enjoyed them, Stef!
I did use a few of these but, pinned them in case I needed some another time. I used some of my dollies to stuff in a wire basket with some eggs, I thought it was cute. Thanks Lora.
That’s definitely another one to add to the list, Marlene!
