DIY Citrus & Garden Flowers Arrangement
Create a stunning citrus and garden flower arrangement with this easy how to. Perfect for special occasions or everyday!
What’s more fun than a beautiful flower bouquet, freshly cut from the garden? Surrounding all those pretty flowers with citrus slices for a summer-styled touch! Today I’m going to show you how to easily create a DIY Citrus & Garden Flowers Arrangement you can enjoy everyday!
Today’s project is part of our monthly Pinterest Challenge, organized by Cindy at County Road 407. If you’re visiting from Art and Sand, I’m sure you enjoyed Carol’s Lemons and Sunflowers Arrangement: she is so artistic! I’ll have all the rest of the inspirational links down below.
The pretty picture we’re all designing around today is from Home is Where the Boat is. Mary created a gorgeous tablescape with an “All Abuzz: Lemons and Bees” theme. Definitely pop over and see her amazing creativity. For today’s challenge, we’re centering our focus on her Lemon Summer Floral Display. It’s summer fresh with it’s whites, yellows and green!
My version took on a little more colorful hue. My garden flowers are at their peak right now, and I want to pick and create as many bouquets as I can! To reflect their bright, happy colors, I added orange slices and lime slices to the lemons. Let me show you how to create your own, with your garden bounty!
DIY Citrus & Garden Flowers Arrangement How To
Gather your Floral Arrangement Materials to Begin
- You’ll need 2 glass containers that are slightly different sized; one should fit into the other with a small gap all around the sides.
- 1 of each: lemon, lime, orange, sliced thin
- Flower frog
- wooden skewer
- freshly cut garden flowers
- water
Arrange Citrus Slices Around Container
Using a wooden skewer, arrange your citrus slices in the space between the 2 glass containers. If you have a square vessel, like I did, it’s fun to place them in the corners, so they wrap around to both sides. Vary the colors, so you see a variety on each side.
I started with the bottom row all around and then continued up the sides. The slices stuck out at the top a bit, but they’ll be covered by the flowers.
When you’ve got all the slices in, place the flower frog in the empty middle vessel and fill everything with water.
Arrange Your Freshly Cut Garden Flowers
I like to start with a couple hydrangea heads to make a foundation for the rest of the stemmy flowers. Then simply start inserting your flowers, varying the varieties. I used a lot of “face” flowers that have a middle: zinnias, black-eyed-susans, and purple coneflowers. I also added some lacey cleome, tall sedum and arching snapdragons.
Your flowers will stand taller and more secure if you stick the stems into a vintage flower frog. I happen to collect them, and even made a Christmas tree that was featured in a magazine;) {“Flower Frog Christmas Tree”}
Such a fun, happy celebration of the summer garden, don’t you think? The citrus slices add so much beauty to this paint-palette arrangement, and it was so easy. It would be pretty enough for a special event, but I’m happy to enjoy it everyday!
I hope you’re inspired to snip some of your garden flowers and crack open the fruit drawer, too! You’ll get plenty more inspiration from my friends down below! If you’re going in order, check out Carol at Bluesky at Home‘s “Citrus Inspired Centerpiece”.

So happy to hop with you! I hope you enjoy the rest of summer!
Thanks, Amber! Love enjoying all the late summer garden bouquets!
Wow! This is gorgeous, Lora–pinned! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm!
Thamk you for revealing HOW the slices are kept in that upright position! I wondered. And yes, I have put stuff in “safe places.” My favorite is putting extra Christmas Hershey kisses in the bean pot on top of the fridge and not finding them till Easter! That’s my favorite so far! I hate it when I’ve put clothes for grands in a safe place and don’t find them till they have outgrown them! That hurts my feelings!
Well, finding chocolate is definitely a nice surprise, Kathy! And yes…I’ve found gifts I stashed and forgotten about, too:(
Lora, using the different citrus colors to pair with you different colors and varieties of flowers was a great idea. I’ve never used a florist frog. I’ll have to look for one. Thanks and Pinned.
You definitely should get a floral frog, Carol! They’re awesome with or without water and flowers!
This looks so awesome! Such a wonderful idea that really captures the summer brightness and fun! Great job!
Thank you, Kristin!

What a great idea to use three different citrus varieties! I love how it looks and the colors coordinate beautifully with the flowers that you used from your yard.
Thanks, Paula!I used what was in the frig;)
Lora, I wish I had an abundance of flowers growing in my garden to use in a bouquet like you do! Gorgeous and sooo colorful!! I love how you’ve used all three fruits; the orange slices really make the bouquet. Perfect for summer and into fall… <3
Enjoy your garden blooms,
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
