Recent Thrifted Vintage Finds (and how I’m decorating with them)
Let’s unpack my car that’s full of my recent thrifted finds! get ideas for how to use thrifted goodies in your decor and crafting.
Some of you have said your favorite posts are when I share my recent thrifted finds and tell you how I’m going to use them. Hopefully it gives you ideas, too…and inspires you to go thrifting! I thrift often, so every couple of months it’s fun to share what’s come home with me. Here are my Recent Thrifted Finds (and how I’m decorating with them).
Thrifting with the Gals
Today’s post is part of our monthly Thrifting with the Gals series. Ann from Dabbling and Decorating, Rachel from The Ponds Farmhouse and Robyn from Robyn’s French Nest and I welcome a guest each month. This month we’re happy to have Heidi from Eleanor Rose Home as our guest.
Heidi lives in Massachusetts and loves to encourage her readers to create a cozy, welcoming home. From lovely home decor ideas to delicious homemade recipes, Heidi inspires many on her blog and IG. Her blog is actually named after her beloved rescue dog. Definitely give Heidi a visit!
I’ll have all the group’s thrifting inspiration at the end; hope you can check them out!

Unloading Thrifted Finds
Does anyone else drive their car around with their thrifting finds…for awhile? This car full was the pickings of several church sales, and a good “grandma” sale. I thought it might be fun to unload my car with you, so you can see what I brought home!
Everything’s still got the tags on, so you can see what I got it for. I remember a reader saying they wish they could hang out in the driveway with me. Well, today is the day! I’ll show you what I bought and why, and how I’m planning on using it.
Thrifting for Decor Accessories
I love scooping up medium sized decor accessories when thrifting. Items I can swap out from room to room that are seasonally neutral. Little stools, wood and metal items can be used over and over. If you don’t like them as is, you can give them a makeover with paint.
This little sewing themed cubby seemed homemade, but I found a made in china sticker on the bottom:( I’d rather have it old, but I’ll be giving it a makeover anyway. It will be a fun addition to the craft room.
The little drawer below is a handkerchief drawer, taken off of an old dresser. Anything with little cubbies and drawers catches my eye.
This cool shaped lantern made me think of Halloween. Lanterns are a great thrifted find; you can use them in any season in so many ways. The cream can was a handy shopping tote for glassware. Cute with umbrellas or branches. And you know I love little stools;)

Thrifted Old Quilts and Blankets
Each new season I start my decorating by pulling out pretty seasonal quilts, blankets, and afghans. Instantly I fill our home with the season’s colors and textures. I also love using quilt tops and old blankets as no iron tablecloths. I don’t usually spend more than $5.
This is my latest stash:
This patchwork quilt top looked so back-to-school cute, I popped it on our patio table to enjoy it’s cute calicos.

Thrifting for Textiles and Craft Supplies
Beyond thrifting for quilts and blankets, I love finding old trims and other textiles. Vintage trims will give your crafting unique style. They can also be used in your home decor. Old satin blanket binding turned into lovely bows in our Fall decorated bedroom (“Romantic Fall Decorated Bedroom with Vintage Style“).
See “Thrifting for Craft Supplies for DIY and Decor” for more ideas.
Thrifting for Hardware and Guy’s Stuff
Yes, go hang out with the men in the hardware area;) Love it when I can find old hardware I can use for furniture makeovers. This whole box of brass handles was $5 and has a pretty wheat design on it. Can’t think of a piece I have right now, but you never know what may be spotted on the curb!
Old yardsticks, garden tools, tool boxes and other metal things are fun to refresh and use in a new way. Definitely visit the hardware area when you’re thrifting. I love getting asked by some old guy what I’m going to do with something I pick up;)
Thrift to Add to Your Collections
I have A LOT of collections, because I love decorating with a theme and en masse. Last Spring I saw Emily Baker’s IG post, HERE, and was inspired to start collecting cabbage wear. Definitely give @myweatheredhome a follow; she’s my favorite!
I found several pieces this year to add to my collection. I even made a little display for Spring. It’s fun to keep an eye out for these pieces when I’m thrifting. Even more fun when they’re pieces that are handmade with names on the bottom.
Think @myweatheredhome also got my stoneware collection started. I have used it for so many seasons, and love scooping up pieces that are inexpensive! (Especially when they say Minnesota on the bottom;)
Thrift for Animal Figurines
Tucking animal figurines into displays adds a touch of nature to the scene. Whenever I find a cute animal accessory that catches my eye, I scoop him up. A heavy wooden horse quickly got added to my bathroom shelves. I’ve got a little horse collection going on there; I always wanted one as a girl.
Pretty vintage bird figurines are sweet to bring out in the Spring. I love their pretty colors, and we enjoy watching the birds on our deck.
And the ducks come out in the Fall. I actually store a lot of my animal figurines together in a bin when not in use.
Thrift for Seasonal Decor
As a seasonal decorator, it’s always nice to have lots of decor options to add to my styling. Thrifting is a great way to inexpensively add seasonal foliage and decor accents. I picked up brand new bags of preserved Fall leaves recently, bottle brush trees, pinecone candles and these cute little topiaries and pumpkins.
Thrift for Different Metals
Different metal accessories add so much to styling. Thrifting is a great way to add to your collection. I picked up this hammered silver tray and a couple brass candlesticks. Last year I used thrifted brass candlesticks in every window for Christmas with battery taper candles.
And Some “Just Because” Thrifted Items
There’s always those items you come across that you just crush on. Anything aqua or green catches my eye. I’m also seasonally motivated, so anything I can use right now gets me excited.
Thrift All the Frames
You can never have enough cool old frames, art pieces and mirrors. So many decorating possibilities! My kids are now wanting to take some of mine, so I need to replenish my stock.
Loved this framed old bark cloth fabric for $1. You will definitely see this in my Fall decor. The beveled mirror in the oval black frame looks perfect with a little spooky. And the wood square frames can be used anywhere.
That’s my latest thrifting haul! Glad to have it out of my car. Now I can refresh items as needed and work them into my decor styling. It’s always fun to pick up items you can use right away.

Can’t decide which are my favorite finds but the framed Bark cloth could be it! Reminds me so much of my grandmother’s scratchy textiles in the parlor I was only allowed to wander through as a child. ❤️ your driveway, your home! I’d love hanging out there too. Florida quilts are overwhelmingly expensive. A wee bit jealous. Enjoy your thrifty ones.
Yes, the framed barkcloth might be my fave, too, Pam! I’ve always loved barkcloth. Trying to decide where it will land and what color I want to paint the frame to pop all the colors;)
What a fun post! I love unloading my finds at the end of a day and remembering again how fun the hunt is!
You have a great haul. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us!
If you unload them the same day, you’re doing better than me, Robyn;) They usually clank around in my car at least a couple days!
That was so fun unpacking your car with you! You found some awesome treasures Lora (I loved seeing the prices too)! It was so fun joining you ladies this month, thank you for having me.
So glad to have you join us, Heidi! Glad you enjoyed it.
Loved this and so fun to see what you found. I wish I could find the things you find but, I still love to go.
Yes, the thrill of the hunt is always fun, isn’t it? Some days are better than others.
Boy do I love seeing what you find Lora. So many goodies from the sewing cabinet with the thread drawers to so much more. Happy thrifting!
It’s always fun to see what others bring home, isn’t it? I’m excited to get everything worked into my Fall decor!
Wow, Lora! SUCH an amazing haul! You found some amazing things….that black mirror is a particular fav as well as those cute little wood cubbies 🙂
Yes, I was happy with what I found; now I need to get things plugged in, before I go out anymore;)

Thanks, Rachel! Yes, the new finds always inspire my decorating:)
Love your thrifting finds, I am from Canada and our prices have really shot up since COVID, you have scored some great deals on stuff! It would be 3X that here 🙁 You give me inspiration!
I figured letting people see the price tags would make it more fun, because inquiring minds like to know;)
