It’s an exciting day! Christmas has arrived in our home and I’m sharing the first part of our holiday tour today. This year’s decorating theme is traditional with a twist. Because I can’t help but use vintage finds in a new way! I hope you love this look as much as I do, and am inspired to try something new when you decorate! This Old World Style Christmas Decor (with a retro junky twist) proves you can try new things when you style your home!
I’ve joined a bunch of talented bloggers today for an inspirational Christmas Home Tour. Thanks to Cindy at County Road 407 for hosting! It’s so fun to see into everyone’s homes, all decorated for the holidays! Definitely grab a cup of warmth and enjoy them for days!

Thrifted Old World Style Inspiration
Each year my Christmas decor is different. This year’s Old World Style look started when I picked up a decorative sign at a church sale. I’ve also been finding old metal animal bells here and there.
And then I saw one of my fave influencers, Liz Marie Galvin, hanging red transferware plates above her mantel. Dried orange slices are still trending and this year bows are everywhere! Yes, I love vintage, but it’s fun to infuse old things with a little trendiness;)
Christmas Mantel Decor with Transferware
I picked up these red transferware plates sometime this past year (yes, I’m starting to forget where all my goodies came from). I simply put old fashioned wire plate hangers on the back and hung them in a circle on my favorite green bedspring. (Bedsprings are an ADD decorators best friend).
The beautiful red satin ribbon is actually vintage blanket binding I scored at a church sale for .25 a package. I ironed it to get most of the folded crease out. I picked up quite a few packages, so you’ll see it all over the living and dining room. I simply made big, beautiful bows everywhere!
THESE brass cordless LED table lamps are my new favorite thing. They can be turned on with the touch of your finger and dimmed. And they can be this height or 1/2 height. I love the glow they cast on these dark nights, and am so excited to use them wherever I don’t have easy access to electricity.
I tucked more of my red transferware dishes in my new-to-me curbside find built ins. I was so excited to style these for Christmas! Vintage red and green books, silver, deer, and battery powered lighting join the transferware for a cozy vibe.
Thrifted deer filled my Christmas hutch last year (“Woodland Inspired Christmas Hutch Decor with Vintage Milkglass”). This year I spread them in and on top of these newly refreshed cupboards. (“Trash to Treasure: Reviving Salvaged Built Ins”)
I just found these red and white stockings when I was shopping at my favorite vintage shops (“Favorite Vintage Shops Decorated for Christmas”). I was definitely inspired by all things red this year (“Reviving Red Vintage Finds for Unique Christmas Decor”).
I had way too much fun pulling this mantel wall together this year!
Cozy Christmas Living Room
Our living room is definitely “cozy”, in the most space challenged way. Hopefully someday we can add on a great room, so we’ll have room for grand kiddos!
The coffee table centerpiece is a collage of textures. A primitive wood box is filled with old red books and winter greenery. Sentimental silver trays are filled with bottle brush trees, a candle in a lantern and more greenery and twinkle lights. There’s still enough room on the upcycled table for everyday purposes. (“From Vintage Roof Rack to Cool Coffee Table”)
Thrifted crocheted afghans are at the ready to snuggle by the fire. Cute, new pillow covers coordinate with the classic Christmas vibe. (Find red and white pillow covers with rick rack HERE, poinsettia pillows HERE)
Retro Junky Twist Christmas Tree
Dried citrus slices are such an easy DIY craft project to tackle, and they look so pretty strung on fishline as garland. They look like stained glass when the light shines through. The segments in citrus slices remind me of spokes of a wheel, so I combined the natural garland with my ever-expanding old wheel collection on the tree.
Estate sale crocheted lace makes a pretty garland. I’ve had this stuff for years and have finally found a no-sew way to enjoy it’s beauty and craftsmanship! I love this crazy combination on the tree!
Antique Velvet Settee and The Christmas Banister
At the other end of the room sits the curbside velvet tufted settee I refreshed for my daughter’s wedding this past summer. I was thinking maybe the newlyweds could sit in it again while they open their presents this year;) {“A Garden Party Wedding with Vintage Style”} Maybe then I’ll have the heart to sell it. If anyone local’s interested, message me!
I continued the citrus slice garland and the old wheel collection up the banister. These were the wheels that were too heavy for the tree!
Nostalgic Vintage Vignettes
When my brain gets going on the round shape, I can’t stop! A cute rag rug I bought last year was the perfect foundation for my dad’s childhood wagon. It will be filled with gifts (when they get wrapped). Nostalgic family childhood chairs sit up top. A curbside yard cart with the word Holiday on it had to be included, too!
See how we recently upcycled my old wagon HERE.
Christmas Dining Room
The dining room continues the Old World Style decor theme for Christmas, with big red satin bows and thrifted vintage dishes and glassware.
Three lavender topiaries were brought in and repotted for the winter. Hopefully I can keep them alive! They fill the bay window with pretty structure. Two more LED lamps light the area beautifully at night. The brushed metal shades direct the light downward for cozy atmosphere. (Find the cordless LED lamps HERE)
Mix & Match Thrifted Dishes Christmas Table Setting
The holiday dishes have all been found thrifting. I love to mix match so you don’t have to have full sets of anything; use what you have that coordinates. Cedar placemats and galvanized chargers set off the plates nicely.
Stacked vintage flower frogs become little trees, perfect to hold name placecards. You can find a variety of free printable placecards in my Resource Library when you become one of my newsletter Insiders! (sign up HERE)
A ziplock bag for .29 at the thrift store contained these adorable vintage Christmas carol napkins. There were three different song varieties; so cute!
A Trader Joe’s ivy topiary continues the garden-fresh style. Heavy brass candlesticks were a church sale find ($3ea!). An evergreen garland cascades down the middle, with orange slices and pinecones. Votive candles are tucked into pretty vintage red glasses for glow.
Christmas Decorated Hutch
My suitcase collection expanded this year when I found a couple red-edged versions curbside. They will be so fun to use during all the red-themed holidays! I picked up the cute green one at a vintage shop recently. I just had to pop them on top of the hutch so I could enjoy looking at them:)
The rest of the Christmas decorated hutch is filled with vintage red and green glassware and dishes. It’s nice to have them close at hand during the holidays. Little deer are peeking here and there to add life. Battery powered wax trees and pinecones add glow. (Find tree candles HERE and pinecone candles HERE)
Wow, if you made it this far through all those pictures, congratulations! I hope you enjoyed the tour of our Christmas living and dining room. I’m still decorating; hopefully will be sharing my kitchen and our bedroom in the next weeks!

Sharing at these lovely parties:
Absolutely FABULOUS! I am obsessed with your dining room, the tablescape with the ivy! Ah so pretty and fresh, and the beautiful hutch full of goodies behind it! You always make me want to hit the junkin’ trail for vintage Christmas goodies.
I love your red transferware! I did not luck into any this past year and ended up finding some vintage style plates at home goods that will do and we can use them. I am wary of eating from old transfeware and ironstone after finding out they may leach lead.
What is the pattern on your plates?
Also, I love the little lamps, but some led lights give me headaches if they aren’t very yellow, warm. A lot of them have blue tint that I can’t tolerate.
Such a fun tour!
Thanks, Amber! I don’t even know the pattern, honestly;) And can’t say we eat on them often; I mostly decorate with them. Yes, the LED lights I have either have a warm light or have a couple different options of cool or warm.I’m a warm light gal myself!
Lora, you are always my favorite!! I love all your displays! When I need to get my decorating brain going your pictures always help me! Merry Christmas from Iowa, Michelle
You’re so sweet; thanks, Michelle:) Happy to inspire! Merry Christmas!
Lora, your style is so unique! I loved the vintage retro twist! The wheel tree is so fun and quirky, your plate wreath stunning! I would love to come for a visit but I’m sure we wouldn’t get much “visiting” done as I’d be wandering around taking in every detail!! Wishing you and your family a blessed and JOY filled season! So happy to be blog friends. xx
Thanks, Cindy! Wouldn’t that be fun to visit IRL:) Maybe someday. Have a Merry Christmas!
Lora, I love all the vintage charm in your home! There were so many beautiful details everywhere I looked. I gathered so much inspiration. Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate that, Niky; thanks!
I loved seeing your Christmas Tree. No one else has a tree like THAT and that’s why it is so FUN to see your posts. I also love those Christmas Carol napkins. What a find for 29 cents. So glad to see you have more nooks and crannies to decorate with your new “built ins”. Enjoy the season.
Yes, I found them in my napkin drawer, and didn’t realize they were different songs:) We are enjoying our crazy combo tree and all the cozy red accents this year. Merry Christmas, Roxie!
I love your tour description! Your home is beautifully decorated for Christmas! I especially love your transferware wreath and the orange slice garland on the banister! Thank you for a lovely tour! Merry Christmas!
So glad you enjoyed it, Missy!
“Retro junky twist” is such a cute description to tack onto your old world style of Christmas decor Lora! The wheel collection displays are just the best, and I love the overall feel of your holiday decorations!
Thanks, Michelle; glad you like it!
Oh my word, so much to see and so full of inspiration every where I look. I love it all, no way I could pick a favorite. I’ve pinned just about everything. Merry Christmas
Thanks, Marty!
You always have the best ideas and love every minute spent looking. Thanks so much for all the inspiration.
Thanks, I appreciate that:)
I can always count on you to come up with the best retro junky twists with great vintage pieces, Lora. I love all the red/green and wow, those white suitcases on the hutch are fabulous! Speaking of your hutch, I’m always excited to see how you decorate it each season and holiday. It’s always a trip seeing the fun you come up with. Have a wonderful Christmas Season!!!
I think decorating the hutch each season is my favorite, too, Debra! Glad you enjoy it; thanks!
No one and I mean NO ONE is going to be creative enough to put wheels on a tree! I think that is the cutest idea since the color pink! The dining area, gorg. The stairs, so fun! The seating area, well, every nook and cranny is perfectly festive. I love it all. Hope you can sit back and enjoy it all now. It’s seriously magnificent! pinned
Thank you, Cindy:) We are enjoying all the pretty twinkle. Even Mr. Fix-it says it might be his favorite decor year-wow! Still gotta do the kitchen and our bedroom, though. No resting yet;)
Lora,
Your vintage plate garland is so fun and I’d have never thought to decorate a tree with small wheels. It all looks amazing. Such a fun tour.
Thanks, Rachel!
Lora, I am in love with all your wheels!!! You even have a wheel in your dining room chandelier… Really fun as I recognize one of the wheels as being from a pram my mother had for my youngest brother when he was born (1969). I love all the nostalgic decorations you have nestled in with the little trees and Christmas decorations. Lots of fun!!! And I love that you have woods outdoors… Just the perfect snowy backdrop…
Happy Christmas to you and yours,
Barb 🙂
Yes, quite a few of the wheels are from old baby buggies and doll buggies that no one wants anymore:( I’m still keeping a part of them alive, though. Thanks, Barb!
Lora, you are the queen of creativity! I always love to study your vignettes and out of the box ideas. The wheels you’ve incorporated are so cute and smart! I could stare endlessly at the stacks of beautiful things in your hutch.
Thanks for your sweet words, Stacey:) I get bored easily and love coming up with new ideas, I guess!
Lora, your Old World style Christmas tour is charming. I really love your plate wreath and your beautiful table setting–pinned! Wishing you a joyous Christmas season, Cecilia @ My Thrift Store Addiction
Thanks, Cecilia!
I love the old things that have memories or history. And all your dried oranges are perfect with the vintage and great antiques. Collecting for one’s whole life really gives great stashes. You have reminded me here of a few things I haven’t had out for awhile…Hugs, Sandi
Yes, it’s fun to enjoy the old things and all the stories that come with them:)
Lora, you always have the most creative ideas, from the wheels on the bannister to those awesome lockers! Loved it all and happy holidays!
So glad you enjoyed it all, Ann!
Gosh, Lora!! It’s all SO pretty! You really got creative this year with the ’round’ theme 🙂 That red transferware is gorgeous hanging around the mantel and I always love to see how you style your hutch for the seasons!
Merry Christmas, friend!
Thanks, Rachel! I do really enjoy doing it;)
Lora this post absolutely DELIGHTED my vintage loving heart! I also will be adding some crocheted trim to my sewing room holiday decor. It is LOVELY!
Oh, yes, you must add some pretty trim! So glad you enjoyed it, Laura:)
