Buffalo, Minnesota Occasional Shops
All seven of these shops are located in Buffalo, MN, 40 miles west of downtown Minneapolis. The best time to visit them is the weekend of the first Thursday of the month; that’s when the occasional shops are open as well as the everyday shops.
It’s a great day trip, or even a weekend destination. Buffalo is a small town, but still has big city stores and several restaurants.
Buffalo has my heart because it’s where I co-owned a vintage shop for 5 1/2 years (you’ll see our building later). And for three years before that we were dealers in another store. I still know many of the shop owners and it’s my favorite treasure hunting spot when I need my vintage and antique shopping fix.
For a special treat, I’m taking you along to 7 of my favorite stores to hunt for vintage and antique finds. There are quite a few more shops tucked here and there, but these are my go-to’s.
Many of the shops have additional holiday store hours. Check their store info for details.
Second Hand Rose
Second Hand Rose is the shop that got me into the occasional business many moons ago. The original owner, Rose Dardin came up with the brilliant idea for her store to be open for only one weekend a month. Each month the whole store was switched up with new vintage merchandise reflecting the seasons. Crowds would stand in line to get first picks of the upcycled and repurposed vintage treasures.
Current owners, Brad and Amy continue the theme. They’ve rounded up a talented group of creative dealers who offer one of a kind pieces. Brad, Amy and their boys also build custom furniture and style everything with the perfect modern vintage vibe.
Here are some holiday glimpses into Second Hand Rose:
This and That
Store information can be found HERE.
This and That is right next door. It’s a two story mall type vintage shop. Less of a curated look than it’s neighbor, there are plenty of finds to be found if you have a good eye for them.
Items here are less handcrafted and more thrifted, but small to medium furniture pieces can still be found. You’ll get to know which dealer’s booths offer what you like. Everything is decorated with seasonal flair and is ever changing.
The Porch
Next we’ll head down the hill to the cute historic downtown, near the lake. The Porch has been owned by Teresa for many years. She lives on the third floor of the building. Her gorgeous French inspired home has been in many magazines and books because she has impeccable style.
The Porch is filled with gorgeous vintage furniture pieces and French inspired home decor items. They also host workshops and other fun events throughout the year.
Here’s a peek into this beautiful shop:
Harlow House
Harlow House is a smaller shop, across the street from the porch. It is filled with vintage, thrifted and new items with eclectic boho style. Pretty word signs, nice faux foliage and cute pillows are easy accessories to find.
Biggs & Co
Biggs & Co just moved their store location from around the corner to our old store building. Biggs is a family owned company that handcrafts unique and custom home decor items. Often they will include vintage pieces into their designs.
This was the first time I’d seen Biggs in our old store. It has fresh black paint throughout and looks sharp. The last year we were there, we installed a beautiful antique door on the old building. I was glad to see it’s still there and fits this historical building beautifully. Luckily the new ownership of this corner of buildings is putting time and effort into preserving these beauties for the town.
The Buffalo Nickel
The Buffalo Nickel has been the foundational antique store in Buffalo before any of the occasional shops existed (think I remember going there in high school;). Located in a huge old barn, it used to be all by itself, but is now surrounded by chain stores, gas stations and restaurants.
The Nickel, as locals call it, is absolutely jammed with dealer booths of all kinds. Mainly vintage and antiques with some new and handcrafted items can be found. Seasonal decor fills every nook and cranny; you won’t go home empty handed. Everything from large antique pieces to bits and bobs. Plan on poking around here for quite awhile! Open everyday.
Annie’s Attic
Annie’s Attic is another Buffalo classic. They just celebrated 35 years! Annie’s is a good, old fashioned antique mall. The booths are all in straight aisles and are filled to the brim with antiques and vintage. You won’t find new market merchandise here.
When I was there at the beginning of November, the dealers were just starting to get their Christmas on. Some dealers go all out with the holidays, and then there are others that you wonder if they’ve restocked their booth in years.
There’s obviously goodies to be found because there is so. much. stuff. But the prices are geared more towards collectors rather than home decorators. In the back of the store there’s a door that goes through a “in the rough” area. Follow that through to Annie’s Annex, an unheated building where the finds are as is. You can find treasures there…but I’d keep my feet moving if I were you;) And don’t think the prices will be cheap for the lack of atmosphere:)
Here’s a very small snippet of what Annie’s has to offer:
There you have it! Such a fun town for vintage shopping. There’s a little bit of everything. There’s even a thrift store in town, if that’s your thing.
Now you know where I shop when I need to get my vintage fix! And I never come home empty handed. The back of my car was filled with red and green this day; I was definitely in the Christmas mood. If you visit the Mpls area, put Buffalo on your to do list! (and message me to join you!)

Oh my goodness – I suddenly feel the need to sprint out of my house to the nearest antique store! What beautiful photos and FABULOUS shops! I am so envious you have so many great places only 40 miles away. There were so many items I saw in your photos I wanted top purchase. Happy Thanksgiving Lora!
It’s honestly very dangerous for me:( I can only let myself go every so often! Happy Thanksgiving, Anna!
Lora, I thought I had great vintage shops here in Maine, but wow are you blessed. I need to visit sometime and go thrifting! Great post and happy holidays!
Yes, we have so many in the Twin Cities area. There are more every direction I could point my car to. I do love these small town ones, though.
These are some great places to shop. I wish we had that many around where I live.
They are amazing!
Thanks for sharing your fav shops! We live in a big city, but our pickings are slim and prices are crazy expensive. How I’d love to be able to shop 7 awesome stores in a day. I could’ve loaded up a trailer to bring home just from the photos.
Glad you enjoyed it; yes, it’s quite dangerous for me!
So many great ideas from Vintage Markets. My favorite pastime. Thanks for taking us along!
Glad you enjoyed it, Debra!
