Thrifting with the Gals
Today’s post is part of our monthly Thrifting with the Gals series. Four of us share our thrifty ideas from all across the country: Vermont/Maine, North Carolina, Florida, and Minnesota. We love vintage finds and showing how we use our thrifty finds in our homes. I’ll have links to my friend’s posts at the end.

Latest Thrifted Vintage Finds
Many of my latest thrifted vintage finds found their new home in my kitchen this summer. “New” old finds always inspire my seasonal decorating. Some people like new clothes, I like new junk;)
I’m always on the hunt for old treasures. The last few months I’ve hit a couple estate sales, some church sales, and even found a great curbside pile. I’ve actually done LESS treasure hunting than I usually do, but have still found some fun things. Let me give you a tour of my summer decorated kitchen with my latest thrifted finds.
Colorful Thrifted Vintage Finds for Summer
A pile of vintage textiles found curbside inspired much of my summer decor this year. The red, white and blue ones were displayed in my Scandinavian Cabin Inspired Summer Hutch. This bright retro apron brought all the colorful kitchen colors together. I simply hung it near our built in cupboard to enjoy the fun pattern design.

Inside the cabinet, treasured ceramic figurines of our family a friend made for me enjoys an important place. The primary colors coordinate perfectly. Vintage flowerpots, a couple of my old scales and farmhouse friendly chickens fill out the shelves.

Up on top a divided workbench drawer displays more colorful flowerpots along with a chicken. Vintage dolly cups with a rooster picture were curbside finds. I popped two painted Polish eggs in them I found at an estate sale. Memories of a college trip to Poland make these nostalgic decor.

Summer Coffee Table Styling
An early summer Pinterest Challenge started out the colorful coffee table styling. Now that the 4th of July has passed, I tweaked a few things (like I constantly do;) The colorful croquet balls still fill a big colander, but I added a retro flowered metal stool and added later summer sunflowers to everything.

I’ve found quite a few more restaurant ware creamers to add to my collection lately. Hopefully they’ll find a home in a little cupboard somewhere soon. But for now, they’re displayed in a thrifted chamber pot for a pretty ironstone display. Also found the cute braided circle at the thrift the same day;)
{see “Collecting Vintage Hotel Ware or Restaurant Ware for more info”}

Old pop bottles got switched up from flags to sunflowers for late summer. Just got a pair of the cute orange tartan ruffled pillow covers. Knew they would help my decor transition from summer into early Fall. (find them HERE)

The island centerpiece features sunflowers, too. I love daisies and sunflowers for late summer vibes. My sister’s kiddos were over the other day and were wondering how many old scales I had around. Can you guess? They counted 12 in the kitchen. And I may have a couple others around, too:) Still haven’t found a green one yet, though!

Colorful Vintage Kitchen Finds on Display
Our glass front cupboard wall is where I love to enjoy a beautiful display of seasonal vintage finds. Through thrifting, I’ve been adding to my vintage kitchen accessories collection. All of a sudden I’ve got a wonderful collection of colorful pottery bowls. Other old kitchen items are added here and there, along with seasonal decor (and more scales).

Yes, that’s a home mill and a whole bunch of grains you see there. I will be sharing my new love of grinding my own flour soon; so many health benefits, and it tastes sooo good!

The green bowl at the top came from a dear departed friend; she was a lover of old things, too<3 The oven bake casserole with green flowers was a church sale score. I unfortunately broke the lid getting it home:( The lemon pie plate was found at the same sale.

More of the oven ware casseroles I got at the church sale. I’ve always loved this pattern. The wooden butter mold is the first I’ve ever found. Love it’s primitive style.
Mr. Piggy Bank was found at the latest church sale. Thought he’d fit in nicely with the farmyard-inspired summer decor. A couple of curbside cookie cutters get shown off with gingham check ribbon, tied to the lamp and a little drawer knob.

The red handled glass jar with daffodils inspired the red and yellow theme. Picked it up at an estate sale. The cute yellow chick came home recently too. He fits right in with my chicken/rooster collection.
Decorating with Collections
I definitely decorate with collections. Sometimes purposely, sometimes accidentally. I realized I’ve been collecting old metal bread boxes the last couple of years. You’ll notice quite a few worked in here.
This green lidded one just became the new place to corral my breadboards. Makes sense, right? A vintage apple breadboard and another small handled one may have gotten me started collecting them, too;)
Funny coincidence: I thrifted this retro clock recently. Mr. Fix-it said, “That was the clock we had hanging in our kitchen when I grew up.” Talk about nostalgic decorating! It makes me love it even more.

Our open kitchen shelves are filled with a new/old mix of dishes. Vintage restaurant ware in different designs, Ikea coffee mugs, new and old wooden bowls, and three new thrifted Hall white bowls. Sunflowers just got added to the old black creamer for late summer. I still love the EAT sign we made years ago. {“Vintage Silverware Art for the Kitchen”} I probably could stand to polish it a little, so the letters stand out more.
And on the summer windowsill, summer colors and bounty is starting. I picked my first zucchini, and herbs and nasturtiums fill a thrifted pitcher and pottery vase.

Hope you enjoyed touring my summer kitchen and seeing where my thrifted finds found their new home! As you can see, I love my home filled with seasonal colors. Right now that means all the primaries and brights. Once early Fall comes, things will mellow as the sun shifts.

It’s difficult to pick my favorites with so many charming vignettes. Such a sweet summery kitchen. But the apron with the cute little birds (who would throw THAT out?), the little rooster juice pitcher and your husband’s childhood clock would be missing if I ever came over for coffee 😘.
Loved hearing your favorites, Pam!
Your kitchen, with its color, unique pieces, and styling, is my virtual Disney World. I love the little details (like the wire chicken on the lamp) and oh, to have a creative friend who makes figurines! I would have the best time at your home. It’s like waking up to sunshine and pancakes every day. And maybe even a Mimosa. :0 Happy summer friend. pinned!
Your sweet words warm my heart, friend:) So glad you enjoyed all the details!
Love all your colorful vintage for the kitchen Lora, and those croquet balls are my favorite, I’m still in love with that wreath you made one year with the mallets. So creative!
Thanks, Ann; so glad you enjoyed all the details. Yes, the croquet mallet head wreath is hanging on the garage door; we enjoy it all year long outside!
All those scales, chickens and beautiful colors of all you have thrifted are just a great way to decorate for summer. Enjoyed it so much, thanks.
So glad you enjoyed the tour, Marlene! Happy summer:)
Thank you for bringing COZY and VINTAGE back to blogging. I’ve literally been afraid to post my eclectic home…that isn’t gray and white and boring. LOL.
SOooooo many cool vintage pieces…a life’s collection…especially love your glass door cabinet, thanks for the smiles this morning, Sandi
So glad you enjoyed it, Sandra! Yes, anyone can have a same-as-everyone, out-of-the-box looking house. Add your own personality and nostalgia to make your home welcoming and cozy through every season:) Thanks for the comment!
Lora
You have so many great treasures. I love all your colorful kitchen decor. Great thrifting post.
Thanks, Rachel! Loving the brights right now:)
Your kitchen is a rainbow of pretty colors!! Also, that cutie little restaurant ware sugar dish…OMG! I NEED one. Lovely displays for summer, Lora!
I know, right? I’d never seen one like it before. Think it was a set with the creamer on the little oval saucer. Church sale find! I’d found 4 creamers together at an antique store, so my collection got big pretty fast! Thinking about a better mini cupboard to display them in. Maybe in the bathroom?
