A Vintage, Botanical Easter
easter table setting ideas with a vintage, organic vibe.
Have you planned out your Easter or Mother’s Day spring table yet? The first decision I make when creating a festive tablescape is to determine what dishes I’m going to use. Which is a big decision when you’re a dish-a-holic, like me;) I love dishes, and there are so many varieties to like! My most recent thrift shop find were a few of these pretty, Portmerion plates. They were the inspiration behind A Vintage, Botanical Easter this year!
I’m sharing my Easter dining room today as part of a “Hop Into Easter” blog hop, graciously hosted by Amber of Follow the Yellow Brick Home. If you’re hopping over from Joy in Our Home, welcome! I’ll have all the links to everyone’s beautiful posts at the end, for your enjoyment! There’s so many gorgeous pictures and amazing ideas, I’ll be enjoying these all week!

When Planning Out Your Table, Decide on Your Plates First
These pretty, botanical plates have been inspiring me all spring. When I posted about the “Easter Bunny Centerpiece How-To”, I was inspired by the forest floor during springtime. Then I created a “Mixed Moss Grapevine Wreath”, using the same theme. I love the crisp green, leafy pattern around the edge of the plates and the botanical-looking illustrations. They make me think of a potting shed, full of springtime excitement!

Choose a Tablecloth that Sets Off Your Plates Beautifully
Once you’ve got your plates decided on and have a theme in mind, choose a tablecloth that will set everything off nicely. I hate ironing, so vintage bedspreads are a wonderful option. For this table, I chose a soft sunshine-colored damask bedspread that drapes beautifully. It feels soft and subtle when you brush up against it and can easily be tossed in the laundry after the big day.
I also took the easy way out with the napkins. Rather than ironing a bunch of cloth napkins or purchasing new ones, I cut out squares of fabric with my pinking shears and bunched them into mini grapevine wreaths. So simple…and cheap;)
I layered a vintage green and white crocheted square over the top for more green and white interest. DIY and store bought leafy placemats add another layer to the tablescape. {“DIY Leafy Placemats”}
Arrange a Collection of Accessories for your Centerpiece
Rather that using one large focal point for the centerpiece, I decided to use a collection of mini topiaries in silver sugar and creamers. They were arranged on my freshly made DIY “Repurposed Wood Lath Runner” . I added a moss bunny in the center and some bird’s eggs on excelsior grass, along with some fabric carrots. The old garden tools also add to the vintage, botanical vibe. The random placement adds a casualness to the scene, rather than formal style.
Those of you who read my blog often may be asking, “But what happened to the other Bunny Centerpiece you made a couple weeks ago?” {“Easter Bunny Centerpiece How-To”} Mr. Big Bunny seemed a little big for this tablescape, so he hopped on up to the top of the piano for a better view;)
You can see how the vintage, botanical theme spread to the whole room!
Add a Pretty Placecard at Each Setting
Each guest feels special when you’ve taken the time to plan out everyone’s seating arrangement. I love to print off some pretty, custom placecards and write each person’t name on them. This year’s placecards feature a classic bunny. Last year’s placecards featured a “grow” theme with a verse. {“An Organic, Vintage Easter Table”} If you’d like to get these FREE printable tags and much more, sign up to become a Lora B Insider down below! The Vintage, Botanical Easter Table is all set! (Sorry there’s not sunshine and pretty green grass outside the window like others have on this blog hop:( We’re trying hard to get in the spring mood here in MN…but we can still get a couple s—flakes in April, unfortunately) April showers are more typical for us this time of year! But we can certainly fake it inside!
Add Something Special To Each Chair Back
For an added special touch, I like to add something to the back of each chair. A little container, like these handcrafted vintage towel pockets {“How to Make a Huck Towel Pocket”} can easily hold a floral tube of fresh flowers, or a couple of fake carrots, like I did here. It’s those little details that turn a special meal into a celebration!
Spread the Festiveness Throughout the Room
Your Easter theme doesn’t have to be limited to the table. Spread the decor throughout the room you’re celebrating in. Simple, cheap dollar spot bunny and carrot garland got hung on our bay window for a festive backdrop. Carrots on twine bunting was also draped behind Big Bunny on the piano. The dining room buffet features another bunny up to his ears in a field of handcrafted eggs!
I love Easter and relish in pulling out all the handcrafted and vintage decor I have made and collected through the years. Vintage, oval platters become oversized Easter eggs when vintage trims are added. {“Decorating Oval Platters as Giant Easter Eggs”} Large, styrofoam eggs are beautifully decoupaged with vintage fabrics and trims also. Colorful glass vintage baskets get their moment at Easter, too! I guess you can tell I’m a vintage fabric and trim hoarder from all of these and the “Vintage Fabric Wreath” in the background:) Yep, never met an old fabric stash I didn’t like!
I hope you enjoyed this dining room tour, decorated for A Vintage, Botanical Easter. I can’t wait to see the rest of the beautiful inspiration these creative bloggers came up with for the Hop Into Easter blog hop! If you’re going in order, pop on over to Celebrate and Decorate. Thanks, Jeanne! We wait a long time for spring in MN! Surely something to celebrate!
What a lovely tablescape! Such a pretty view while dining as well!
Thanks, Christy! It is nice to have the table right next to the bay window;)
You may not have sunshine but i love the view, and your table and surrounding bunnies and dishes are so pretty. Easter is a time of joy and i am filled with joy when looking at your room, thanks and Happy Easter.
I’m so glad it all fills you with joy, Marlene! Creative, pretty just has a way of doing that to our souls, doesn’t it?
Lora, Your dishes are really pretty and I love how you decorated your Easter table. Wishing you a Blessed Easter!
Thanks, Carol! You, too!
Oh my so much creativity and vintage goodess! I don’t have any of those plates but I always have loved them. I am in love with that tablecloth, and your pinking sheer napkins are brilliant. I am definitely borrowing that idea! The little glass baskets are divine and I am crazy over the Easter eggs platters. Genius! You always have so many colorful and fun items, spring is a great time to tour your home!
Thank you so much for hopping with us. Happy Easter!
Thanks, Amber. And yes…my family agrees I have a lot of stuff;)
Lora, I love your gorgeous Easter tablescape! Your botanical dishes are lovely, and your repurposed wooden lath runner makes a great base for your pretty centerpiece decor! (BTW, I featured it in this week’s Farmhouse Friday!) Happy Easter!
Thanks, Michelle! And thanks for the feature, too! Now I need to make about 10 more for grad party tables…
Lora, your dinner plates are gorgeous and the easter centerpiece is a show~stopper. All the greenery is perfect for an Easter meal. Happy Easter.
I am loving those dishes, Carol! Here’s hoping I find a few more spring saleing!
Your Easter table is so cute! I love the placemats!
Thanks, Angelina!
Lora, what a charming table full of great ideas and suggestions too! I loved your idea for no sew napkins! Often I can’t find a pattern I like or 8 are too expensive to purchase. A yard or two of fabric and voila! I also have Mr. Big Bunny and his wife too. Can’t believe I never thought to add any embellishments to their baskets — duh! I’m going to go an add eggs and carrots pronto after seeing yours.
I didn’t know Mr. Bunny had a wife, Debbee;) I got him for cheap at a garage sale and he quickly become my favorite. I love adding different things in his backpack. Last year it was carrots and veggies.
Lora, your tablescape is so lovely and Springy with so many fun ideas. Love the centerpiece with the vintage Garden Theme. Have a wonderful Easter!
Thanks, Debra. We wait long and hard for garden season here…and we’re not there yet. I’m trying to make it come sooner, I guess;)
What a gorgeous Easter table and those dishes are perfect. I am a dish-aholic as well so I have to restrain myself when I go shopping or I wouldn’t have anywhere to store them all! Great tip on the tablecloth…because I hate ironing as well! So much inspiration on your table…you really have some beautiful pieces!
Shelley
I have dishes…everywhere, Shelley! My hubs says I could feed the 5000;) My youngest said the other day, “I’m guessing not everybody changes out their dishes every season like we do?” Oh, what have I done to my children…
Such a fun table! I love all the colors and the name tags! Those dishes are gorgeous! I love dishes too! Thanks for all the inspo!
I think there’s quite a few dish lovers on these blog hops, Kristin! Maybe we should start a support group: dishaholics anonymous?
Hi Lora, I love all your botanical accents but I must say decorating the platters to look like eggs is a fabulous idea. The trims and lace are so pretty!!
Thanks, Michelle! It was a fun, easy craft project that anyone could do, and a great way to enjoy all my oval platters!
So many lovely elements to your table and your home. Your Portmeiron Botanic Garden plates set a lovely table and your rustic centerpiece with all of the garden elements complements the dishes perfectly. Your collection of little glass baskets is quite a treasure! /they look lovely glistening in the sunlight!
Thanks, Chloe! Yes, I treasure those little glass baskets:)
You’re just killin’ me with your amazing ideas! the glass basket collection is incredible and the oval plates decorated as eggs are so creative. Now I need to be on the look out for those items.
Did you see the movie, Sandlot, Pamela? We always say, “You’re killin’ me, Smalls” I’m so glad you got some new ideas, and I’m happy when I can inspire someone to go out and treasure hunt! I can say I had a successful day, now;)
What a lovely table you’ve set, Lora! I poured over each picture taking in all of the details. I’m also a dish-a-holic and I think I let out a sigh when I saw your pretty Portmerion plates. The plates look great with your leaf placemats and the pretty napkins that you made. I like how you used a wreath as the napkin ring and tucked the fork in with the napkin. I so much enjoyed every picture that you shared. Everything is beautiful!
Such sweet compliments, Paula; thankyou! I’m hoping to find more of those Portmerion plates this spring; I’ve only got 7; 4 dinners and 3 salads. I’d love a whole set, plus some of those yummy extra pieces. I can never get enough dishes!
Your table setting is beautiful – love those plates.
Thanks, Carol!
Such a beautiful tablescape!! And, seriously loving the plates that you put ribbon and ric rac on…genius!!!
~Emily
Thanks, Emily! It was so fun to gussy up those oval platters; kind of like grade school art again:) Very therapeutic.
I like your tablescape because you don’t do things like everyone else! I particularly loved the bedspread for a tablecloth, and the pinking shears napkins!
That’s the best compliment, Kristie! Yes, out-of-the-box and expected are not my game, I love unique! So glad you got some new ideas to try!
I love your table and all of your Easter decor Lora! I feel like such a slacker now!!

The decorated plates was a fun afternoon of playing with vintage trims, Cindy! Glad you liked them:)
I love this. I love the green door too. What a fun color. Your glass baskets are precious.
That green door is about the only remnant of this old house’s former 70’s attire, Katie! I’ve left it for the 17 years we’ve lived here; have always loved mossy greens;) thanks!
