Vintage Cabin Decor Ideas for Cozy Style
How do I make my cabin look cozy? These vintage cabin decor ideas show you how to use your retro collections as cozy cabin style decor.

A good friend and I recently spent a relaxing weekend at her cozy north woods cabin. We spent hours at the local antique store, ate at the small town cafe, watched chick flicks and had plenty of conversation. She’s a vintage lover, so of course we had to fit in some decorating with all her fun finds! You can see how we decorated her cabin a couple years ago in “Decorating a Northwoods Cabin with Vintage Camp Style”.
(yes, that cinnamon roll was absolute heaven!)
She of course had found a couple “new” items since last time. You’ll recognize some of the same vintage collections, but the styling is fresh and new. Hope you’ll be inspired with the ideas in Vintage Cabin Decor Ideas for Cozy Style.

Start By Decorating the Mantel
The huge stone and log mantel in this little cabin is impressive. It’s the reason the previous owner decided to add on rather than tear the cabin down. Because it’s the main focal point and the first thing you see as you enter, it’s a great place to start the decorating.
Sarah had found this pretty ducks painting recently and wanted to use the “Silver White Winters That Melt Into Spring” for the seasonal transition. Because the stone fireplace doesn’t have a place to hang anything, I used 2 metal blue tackle boxes to prop the picture up higher. The colors in the art guided the mantel styling with grays, blues, and greens.
Old books in the color palette were laid and stood for texture. A small evergreen tree sits in a wire basket full of pinecones. I told Sarah she should get a string of battery powered twinkle lights for the tree since there’s no outlet nearby. A birch candle will also give the whole scene a glow.
A friend had given her the awesome green pine tree shutters. They’re the perfect backdrop for either side of the fireplace. More textures were added with a fur pelt and galvanized vintage finds. I grabbed the black and white buffalo check pillows from the couch to add softness and a graphic punch.
Foliage and Organic Textures Can Make Styling Seasonal
Sarah can transition her styling with foliage and organic touches. I told her to pick up some evergreen sprays to tuck here and there. She could also use bare sticks, pussy willows, white crabapple branches or forsythia for a Springtime look.
Vintage Collections as Cabin Decor
Sarah has a wonderful array of vintage collections to style the cabin. The balance is always that fine line of cute but not cluttery, especially in a small space. The key is to create groupings instead of having accessories everywhere. I styled her vintage finds in groupings around the cabin, trying to keep empty spaces for usability, like on tabletops.
(Last time we were at the cabin, I taught Sarah how to make Origami Flowers. Get the tutorial HERE)
Some cabin friendly vintage collections for decorating: (click for shopping info)
- plaid afghans and Hudson Bay blankets
- plaid thermoses
- minnow buckets
- paddles/oars
- cameras
- lanterns
- water and snow skis
- old games
- vintage camping books
Cabin Decorating with Thrifted Furniture
Cozy cabin decorating is even better with inexpensive thrifted furniture. This bentwood plantstand was an inexpensive thrift store find. It was the perfect spot to create a fun vignette with retro games and vintage finds. Turn an old minnow bucket upside down to create a different level. Lights could also be put underneath for nighttime interest.
A secondhand desk with a beautiful view became the perfect spot to work remotely. A new plaid lamp coordinates with the vintage thermos collection. The cute little red stool was one of our finds at the local antique mall.
Winter skis and an old gumball machine add to the fun-themed cabin decor.
Cozy Cabin Decorating
This cozy cabin is decorated with vintage charm and is a welcome to everyone who enters. The weekend we were there all of nature was blanketed with a frosty glow. It was magical from inside and out.
Right inside the door an upcycled sewing machine table is the perfect spot to set your keys and your coffee mug as you enter. A cabin journal keeps track of the many guests who enjoy visits all year long.
Northwoods Beauty All Around
A northwoods cabin next to a lake is the perfect getaway…in any season! It’s where families and friends bond and memories are made. Here are a couple glimpses of the cabin’s outside beauty to enjoy.
Hopefully you got some new inspiration for vintage cabin style decor. We sure had fun decorating and enjoyed some girl time, too! Thanks, Sarah, for a wonderful cabin weekend!
