Snowy Junk Love
Most of my blog posts are written to inspire or inform. I love encouraging you to decorate your home uniquely, or to recreate something that has potential! But today’s post is all about fun; it’s completely for entertainment! Because if you’ve found your way here, I’m guessing you love pieces with earned character. Items that have lived their lives and are showing a little bit of wear and tear. Vintage treasures that recall times gone by, that stir memories of your childhood, of your grandma or grandpa, or you marvel at how well they’re made. That’s why I hope you’ll enjoy today’s post where I’ve combined two of my favorite loves: junk and nature! For sheer visual entertainment, here’s some Snowy Junk Love!
Today’s post is a part of our monthly Thrifty Chicks Challenge! We went a little vague this time for Valentine’s and are all posting on “Something We Love”. I’m hoping you get a little closer glimpse of each of these special, creative ladies and learn a little bit more of our passions and why we all blog! I can’t wait to see what everyone came up with!
I was going to post on something totally different today, but I decided to bump it till later when the beautiful snow just. kept. coming. And then one of you (who lives in a more southernly state) commented that you loved seeing the pretty, winter scenes outside my window! All that great junk scattered around my yard does make for some pretty scenery with a fresh batch of fallen snow!
So I strapped on my boots and went out into the tundra for your enjoyment! Because who doesn’t love snowy vintage junk? You know I can never get enough of it; I love junk! Hope you enjoy!

Create a welcoming scene where you enter everyday
Don’t just decorate for your guests; make your entry welcoming and cute for you! Our back entry is our main entry also, and it’s a seasonal welcome for us all.
Having a covered porch to decorate is fun, {to see it all through the seasons, “Porch Decorating Fun” (winter), “Fall Decorated Porch and Patio”, and “Summer Porch Tour”}, but honestly, it all looks like a snowdrift right now! All my prettifying efforts have been taken over by nature, but I’m gladly yielding and enjoying the view!
I have been fighting the “I-want-a-different-house” blues this year {“How to Decide Whether to Move or Not”}, since we’ve been here almost 16 years and I’m restless for change. To combat the itch, I’ve been filling out my checklist of what I love about this house (while writing what I’d like in the next house). And it does help that we had a little long-awaited-for demo day recently; I just love a good destruction project;) You’ll be hearing more soon.
Beautiful snowy days like today just have me counting my blessings on getting to live in such a beautiful place, with woods and nature right out my back door! This home has been a wonderful place for my kiddos to explore and play and has given me plenty of outdoor spaces to create junky vignettes!
Place your vignettes so they can be viewed from your windows
Junky, vintage treasures can be spread out and enjoyed through all of our 4 beautiful Minnesota seasons. I place them purposefully, so they can be seen from every window and also as we drive in the driveway.
Some pieces have been refreshed and repurposed, others are simply for photo backdrops! Any passerby can obviously see, there’s someone who loves vintage junk living here!
{“Two (sewing machine bases) are Better than One”, and “How to Refresh and Enjoy Vintage Metal Lawn Chairs”}
Do you have a case of snow envy yet? It is a lot of work, but luckily I live with a house-full of men-folk that enjoy moving it. Because I really just like taking pictures of it;) And looking at it out the windows…where I’m warm and dry!

Enjoy your vintage junk throughout the seasons, inside and out

Wall to Wall DIY Wednesday
Wow, Lora! You have a wonderful winter wonderland only made more magical with you funky junk! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm! Pinned!
And we’re getting more this week! I’ll be faking spring inside when all you southern girls have it for real;)
It’s like frosting on a cake! Happy Sunday.
Perfect description, Laura!
This is really lovely! We have been hit with snow not at all characteristic for our area, and it’s amazing how different things look. My favourite is for sure when the snow is fresh and untouched. So, so pretty. I love all the snippets of rusty vintage peeking through the snow blanket. I just want to cozy up and see more! Thank you for sharing 🙂
Thanks, Sheila! We’re actually due to get quite a few more inches this week! Guess we’ll enjoy spring when it finally arrives that much more;)
I love your home and there is so much to see with all your genius ideas. Thanks for all the pretty winter wonderland pictures, so lovely.
You’re so sweet, Marlene! Glad you enjoyed the snowy scenes!
I grew up in New York state and your pics made me smile and remember the beauty of a snowy winter. (Loved all the vintage bits peeking out.) Miss that at times. Thanks for sharing.
So glad you enjoyed it, Karen! It is beautiful…but is a lot of work;)
Such lovely photos, Lora! We have definitely had lots of snow in the last month! It looks so pretty with vintage outdoors!
Yes, it does! Come March or April I’ll be sick of it all, but it sure is pretty now!
I love your post. There is beauty in snow and your treasures.
Thanks, Debra;)
LOVE this post, Lora–you are such a creative soul 🙂 I so enjoyed seeing your snow-covered collection of wonderful vintage “junk.”
I was thinking of all your beautiful photography when I took the barn door pic! Thanks, Diana!
Oh Lora it is amazing! Spring is around the corner but it is still winter and why not celebrate it??? I am pinning so many images to my winter wonders board. It’s beautiful to see rusty junk covered in snow! You are so creative!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Thanks, Amber! Think spring will be a good while coming around here (at least outside, that is); I’ll fake it inside once March comes!
Love all your snowy junk vignettes Lora! So pretty. We have just as much snow, but you have more great junk outside than we do. I’ll have to work on keeping more out instead of putting it away. The snow really adds another sculptural level to everything, especially that fabulous bike. I’ve been looking for one for some time. Love how that blue is peeking out.
You’re so right, Tuula, the snow adds a sculptural element that’s completely different than the rest of the year. And not surprised you have just as much white stuff…you’re a good bit north of me!
Wow!! that is ALOT of snow!! It’s just the way I like it….far away. 🙂 Thanks for the beautiful photography.
Glad you enjoyed it, Vikki! I love changes around me, so having pretty snow for awhile makes me enjoy the springtime all the more;)
Love your post Lora and your yard does look really pretty! We have had a huge dumping of snow here which is not the norm for us. I’m going to look outside the window today and admire what I see instead of whining about it! lol!
Tania
Yes, enjoy it while it lasts, Tania! I’m sure it won’t keep long there; ours will be here till April probably:( I won’t be enjoying it as much then!
