It’s October, and I’m so excited to share my fall decorated porch and patio with you! Fall just seems to be the best time to enjoy all the great vintage junk finds I’ve “gathered” throughout the year! I probably should have titled this post “A Very Junky Fall Porch and Patio”! It’s just so fun to decorate the outdoors with junk finds!
I’m sharing this fall porch and patio tour for a wonderful blog hop today, thanks to Amber of Follow the Yellow Brick Home!If you’re popping on over from The Crowned Goat, welcome! I’ll have everyone’s beautiful porch and patio links at the end. Can’t wait to see all the beautiful inspiration!

Vintage Junk Finds as Porch Decor
It’s been raining non-stop around these parts, so just getting the porch and patio all decorated has been a challenge this year! But a little wetness actually made all the pictures look that much better, so I’m not complaining (now that I’m indoors;)
Welcome to our Autumn Porch and Patio at the Fake Farmhouse! It’s a festive place to “gather” with all the vintage junk I’ve found treasure hunting through the years! The junk seems to look it’s best when surrounded with the textural beauty of fall!
Our back door is our main entrance and the lights are on to welcome you on this dreary, fall day! My recent $5 vintage bicycle find doesn’t have a permanent home yet, so I’m enjoying it right here as I come and go each day. Don’t you just love the black and white seat?
Add Rustic Natural Fall Textures
A couple pumpkins, some galvanized metal and a free-bin garage sale set of boots are enough to give the steps some cuteness. I snipped some of our pampas grass for the boots and added some gourds in tic-tac-toe fashion to the old milk bottle crate.
I both love and hate this crabapple tree that beautifully arches over our entrance. We planted it as a 15″ sucker from our previous home because it had been gifted as a memory of my late father-in-law. It’s flowers are spectacular each spring and provides wonderful fruit to pretty birds all summer. But when all those little crabs start falling all over my steps, and we step on them and squish them into all the deck boards and patio? Then I’m hating that we planted it here! The first step in getting the porch ready for this tour was to clean up the mess! (I guess the leaves do look pretty in the fall, too)
Upcycled and Repurposed Vintage DIY Projects
I created a fall greeting area on our rustic Painter’s Scaffolding Benches. We created these for large outdoor gatherings and I decided the best way to store them was right out in the open. They create a fun seasonal display space.
I’ve hung a stretch of Wool Blanket Bunting between the windows and put 2 Rake Head Wreaths on either side of an old mirror I turned into a chalkboard. I like to have some candles to light at night here for some glow. I added some green hydrangeas on wood slices for texture at the bottom. Snipping and adding that little bit of green to all the foliage really popped the other fall colors.
For all the years I owned my store and sold in other stores, decorating with cornstalks in the fall was always the biggest bang for the buck! Their size just makes such a statement, and they can usually be found for cheap or free (at least in my area). My sister-in-laws father generously honored my plea for cornstalks and even helped me cut a whole van-load to decorate my porch posts! Once they went up, I knew the magic was happening;)
We’ve got a cozy little reading spot in the corner of our deck, next to my vintage stove. It’s a great place to look out over our back yard and enjoy the trees in the ravine that border our property. Hopefully the trees will transform into their beautiful fall colors soon!
Mr. Goose is watching me decorate…
I’ve got a glass-topped table up on the deck for lunchtime, and when I decide I want to fold clothes outside;) I filled my vintage birdcages with hydrangeas and spread cornstalks around their bases to create an easy centerpiece. A couple gourds and pumpkins at the base punches up the color.
Right outside our kitchen patio door, I love to create a pretty vignette that I can enjoy from my stove! I was excited to have fall bounty tumbling out of the garden cart I picked up curbside junking this past spring {“Curbside Junking Finds“}. An old Texaco oil can, a colorful camp stool and some more cornstalks (shoved into an old shopping cart) with an aqua shovel finish off the colorful display.
Create Cozy Sitting Areas
The deck opens up to our patio where we spend evenings by the chiminea and eat supper at the big, sewing machine-base teak table {“Two Bases are Better than One”}. We can face our newest garden that we planted with fall-beautiful perennials: grasses, sedums, black-eyed susans and hydrangea. I popped some extra cornstalks in my galvanized bucket planter after I pulled out the summer annuals.
Plaid wool blankets and vintage patchwork quilts {“How to Easily Fix an Old Patchwork Quilt”} are perfect for chilly, fall nights…and they’re pretty to look at, too;)
This table got treated to the same birdcage centerpieces the patio table had. Our vintage fence squares {“Repurposed Vintage Fencing Squares DIY”} got some little pumpkins and hydrangeas for texture. I’d maybe add some tealights for night-time ambiance. For an extra statement, I tied more cornstalks to our trellises and added some fall clippings. Think I need to have a party;)
With all this prettiness, I couldn’t let the big garage garbage can pots go untouched! I hope you appreciate the irony of turning old galvanized, ribbed garbage cans into planters next to the garage!
Aren’t all these fall colors and textures just perfect next to that galvanized metal? The vintage junk really does look it’s best filled and surrounded with fall bounty!
I hope you enjoyed this fall decorated porch and patio tour! The forecast calls for rain all week, so I’m glad I can enjoy it all from inside! Make sure to visit the next stop on the tour, Beauty for Ashes Home, if you’re going in order. Please Pin and Share before you leave!
Now let’s see everyone else’s beautifully decorated fall porches and patios!

Best of the Weekend
I lament that I have no porch– but perhaps I should begin decorating our open deck some more….thanks for the inspiration!
Definitely, Liberty! Decorate what you see outside your windows and when you walk up to your house just like you would the inside! It’s fun styling; way less serious than inside!
Lora, I loved all the colors and textures you have added to your yard. I envy you your porch; I only have small front steps! I had to smile when you “complained” about stepping on the crabapples! You are SOOO lucky. Here in Maine we have wild turkeys. A fellow church member was complaining several years ago that a flock of her turkeys was groundfeeding under an ornamental tree (forget if it was apple or cherry). She wanted to know how to get rid of the turkeys as she was tired of walking in turkey poop! I quietly looked at her and said, “Get rid of the cherries.” Guess THAT had never occurred to her! Be thankful you are only walking on crabapples!
Love your story, Kathy;) And yes, I’m am very thankful for our covered porch; never knew how much I would enjoy decorating it when we first looked at this house! We don’t have turkeys, but we have had “drunk” birds flying into our windows lately. I guess the wildlife eats the fermented berries and get drunk! Crazy!
I love all of the vintage details that you’ve added in to your fall porch! It all looks so wonderful! So fun to join you on this tour!
Thanks, Heather. We both definitely share the love of vintage treasures;)
Wow, Lora your fall porch and yard look fabulous for Fall! Love all the vignettes created with your collection of junk finds and appreciate your eye for making them interesting and unique.
Thanks, Marie! I had so much fun with it!
Lora, This is all sooooo good! I love every little fall touch you added! I pinned your inspiration like crazy!! Makes me want to start my whole porch over from scratch!!!
Thanks, Kristin. Don’t start yours over, it was absolutely adorable! I love that we both used our vintage bikes;)
I enjoyed each and every picture, makes me want to come by and visit so i can see it all up close. Thanks Lora it was fun.
Glad you enjoyed the tour, Marlene! If we could just get the rain to stop around here, it would be nice to enjoy it from the outside!
Lora,
The rainy overcast weather really did make your photos snap with vibrant color and details. I stared at the raindrops dripping from the bicycle handle and could only dream of having photos with such clarity. I love the blue shovel plus the purple mums and red mums in the galvanized containers. Definitely a country Fall outside with all your wonderful gifted cornstalks.
Happy Fall,
Judith
Thanks, Judith. I actually had to go back and look at the raindrops on the bike handle picture; I took that pic so fast when it was misting, because I didn’t want my camera to get wet;0 Rain does always bring out all those beautiful, vibrant colors. Last June I blogged a whole peony field I had photographed while holding my umbrella over my head. Oh, what we’ll do for good pictures!
Lora, you have added so many beautiful autumn touches to the outside of your home! Everything looks absolutely gorgeous, and you have so many vintage pretties! It has been so much fun being on the tour with you! Happy Fall!
Thanks, Shannon! It’s so fun to enjoy all my junk treasures outside, because I’d never fit them inside my house;)
Oh, it all just makes me happy! I especially love the birdcages filled with Hydrangeas. I have one just like that round one of yours. Pumpkins, mums, and cornstalks certainly do make me happy!
hugs,
Jann
I know, Jann! Isn’t decorating with fall foliage and vintage the best? This hop was a great excuse to pump up the volume!
I am blown away by the “harvest” of ideas you shared! Wow!!!! I told Jann she needs to tag all the flea market themed mags and so do you! Your use of cornstalks is awesome. All the vintage junkin’ finds look great at your fake farmhouse!? Your creativity really shines in this post. Your yard and flowers are looking stunning for fall. I agree that the rain allowed for some nice fall shots.
Thank you for touring with us. Happy fall!
Thanks, Amber!I had so much fun putting up all the cornstalks and love how they look! Can’t wait to get to everyone’s posts!
Lora, what a great use of so many rusty and crusty vintage pieces in your fall decor! You’ve made it all very homey and inviting too by adding the dried hydrangeas and cornstalks, and mixing in the gourds & pumpkins. I can see plenty of gatherings around the chiminea with cozy blankets and roasted marshmallows. Happy Fall!
When I was selling, all these finds would have gone to the store, so I’m finally getting to enjoy some rusty, crusty pieces myself! Which I know you can probably totally relate to;)
Your outdoor Fall decor is so beautiful! Love the pumpkins and the corn stalks!
Thanks, Angelina!I was really hoping for some of those gray/green pumpkins, but just couldn’t locate them this year:(
Hey Lora! I love that it actually looks like Fall on your Fall tour – the fallen leaves from the rain on your porch steps added a nice touch of charm. I love the mix of plants in your galvanized trash cans – I’ve got a couple of them and I’d never think of doing something that creative. All the vintage touches mixed in with the pumpkins and plants are just perfect. Happy to be on this tour with you!
Yes, the leaves are coming down even more now, Michelle! We do get “true” fall here in MN…and also true winter;0
Your outdoor porch decor looks so pretty, Lora! I so much enjoyed pouring over each of your pictures. I wanted so badly to use cornstalks on my front porch but I never could find any for sale in my area. Using vintage treasure in your outdoor decor appeals so much to my vintage loving heart.
I’ve got cornstalks growing all over in our area, but sometimes can’t find any to buy! I’ve been tempted to throw my sickle in my van and just go out some night and cut some down, but luckily I had an “in” this year;) And yes, us vintage junk lovers need to stick together!
I seriously adore your fake farmhouse fabulous fall touches! And I’m super jealous of all those corn stalks! Every corner is decorated with such wonderful vintage goodies that I stared at it all for several minutes! It’s so charming and inviting. I keep hearing the slap of that back door too. I want one!!! It brings back such fond memories of my childhood. Thank you for sharing your totally awesome porch!
You’re so right, Cindy, it does make that slap sound! We put that on when we moved here, because I wanted that country house sound, too! Think I need to start a corn stalk envy club;)
Wow!!! Your home is decorated so pretty, I love all the country and farm items scattered about with pumpkins and flowers. You have so much energy; I’m feeling lazy in comparison. All that i’ve done is my mantle, LOL. Now, on to check out some of the other blogs. Thank you for sharing our home with us.
Connie 🙂
I do love faking it with the farmy look, Connie! I’ve already told God my mansion in heaven can be a hobby farm;) The outside is all decorated, but the inside has a long way to go! You can only focus on so much at a time, right?
Lora, you have the coolest ideas and seriously, every time I visit your blog I want to go out and collect all the old things! You have done such a fabulous job incorporating the things you love with the plants, pumpkins, and corn stalks. I love the hydrangea filled bird cake, the pumpkin grid basket, and so much more!! Pinning and pinning.
You’re so sweet, Stacey:) Glad I’m inspiring others to go out and love themselves some junk, too!
I am just swooning with delight over your fall tour. There is so much wonderful inspiration. I love the blanket bunting and the old mirror turned chalkboard. You are so clever and creative!
Thanks, Laura! I made that blanket bunting years ago, and still love pulling it out each fall!
Oh wow, how fun is this and so many beautiful vignettes. Every picture is full of fabulous inspiration. Love it all.
Thanks, Marty! I do love creating vignettes; never tire of it!
Lora, this is so beautiful! I really love how you brought so much wonderful vintage into it all! I never thought of using my garden cart tilted that way! Just walking up to your house would be a joy!
There are so many beautiful Fall vignettes on your porch, Lora, I seriously don’t know which one to pin first! I love your planters and how you accented everything with the corn stalks too. I’ve never seen so many bumpy pumpkins like the ones you have – they are so cool. I’m definitely going to be on the hunt for them in Florida. This is such a cozy place, I love it! Hugs, CoCo
Yes, those bumpy pumpkins, CoCo…they kind of look like peanuts; so gnarly! I just love all the varieties of pumpkins they’re growing these days!Fun to be hopping with you!
Your outdoor fall vignettes are so charming. I love how you decorate with what you have. So refreshing and lovely!
Thanks, Michelle. You totally described me to a T…I decorate with what I have! I just like to make anything and everything pretty;)
