A Patriotic Porch, Full of Vintage Finds
Love thrifted finds? This summer decorated porch has all the Patriotic porch decor ideas for your thrifted finds. Charming Americana Farmhouse style with upcycled and thrifted vintage finds.

Summer days means it’s time to pull out the Patriotic decor! Hooray for the red, white and blue (if you’re in the U.S.A.). Decorating the porch can be a great place to use your favorite vintage finds and get great Americana style. Today I’m sharing A Patriotic Porch, Full of Vintage Finds to inspire your seasonal summer decor.
I’m joining the talented Pinterest Challenge group this month, hosted by Cindy at County Road 407. Get ready for beautiful, creative ideas! If you’re visiting from The Ponds Farmhouse, I’m sure you loved Rachel’s rustic red, white, and blue summer porch decorating ideas. I love Rachel’s decor style and am amazed at her creativity. I’ll have all the rest of the links at the end.
Our Pinterest Challenge Inspo Pic
Each month Cindy chooses an inspiration photo for our team to design around. This month’s Patriotic Porch comes from Worthing Court Blog. Suzy’s red, white and blue decor is charming. Visit her blog for the whole porch tour.
Here are the design features I noticed.
- Wooden shutter backdrop
- Wicker baskets and chairs
- Lanterns
- Red summer flowers
- Wooden crate with DIY flag blocks
- Toy truck
- Patriotic bunting garland
- Flags and flag motifs on different surfaces
Now to see how I interpreted this look on my porch. Of course, my style will incorporate more vintage finds. Because that’s what I love, and have plenty of;)

Create A Cozy Seating Area on the Porch
Grouping your outdoor furniture into seating areas will create cozy conversation spaces to enjoy. Right outside our sliding glass door, our old fashioned swinging bench is a favorite perch. A vintage enamelware kitchen table, cut down to coffee table height sits in front. It’s a great place to enjoy seasonal decor and can be enjoyed from inside, too.
Layering old quilts and pillows adds softness and a cozy welcome. New outdoor pillow covers combine with thrifted vintage textiles for the best of both worlds.
(Find plaid pillow covers HERE.)
Taking a cue from Suzy’s old truck, I displayed vintage pull toys with fun wheels. They’re a fun way to serve food from a buffet. A couple red Tonka trucks are a sentimental touch, since Tonka trucks were made in the nearby town where we owned our first home. The Tonka plant was a mainstay field trip for local kids back in the day.
I happened to have picked up the Ikea black lantern at a church sale this Spring. Perfect timing to match the inspo pic! Battery powered candles inside won’t melt in the sun and provide pretty and safe flicker at night.
Wood Shutters with Vintage Finds as Decor
Whenever I find wooden shutters in curbside piles, I scoop them up. They are a great, flexible way to decorate. Simply place D hooks on the back (find them HERE) and hang them on your walls, indoors or out. You can hang plates, framed prints, baskets, wreaths; switch them up whenever!
Like our inspo pic, I hung a basket on each of my black shutters that flank the door. Bright red and white faux summer flowers fill one, and old croquet balls with stripes are in the other. I picked out red, blue and black balls from several partial games I’ve found. Faux daisies turn it into an arrangement. Wall baskets are so handy for decorating and organization.

A “New” Wicker Rocker for the Patriotic Porch
I’ve been wanting a comfy rocking chair for our porch. I picked up a cute, chippy white one curbside junking, but it wasn’t comfy. It may become a planter for succulents. But, I just happened to come across a cute, vintage wicker one at a garage sale last week for $12! And it’s very comfy:) With a cutter quilt piece pinned around the seat, it fits right in!
A curbside red metal chrome cart is filled with colorful enamelware. I love it’s punch of color with the graphic black outline. The U.S.A label on the urinals make them a fun vase for summer cut flowers.
A divided crate holds old baseballs and croquet balls. I loved the DIY craft flag blocks in the inspo pic, but didn’t have time to make one. This look has the same idea, but was much quicker. A foldable ruler star hangs in front. {see 3 ways to make Ruler Stars HERE}.
Rustic Vintage Finds on the Patriotic Porch
Other rustic vintage finds with timeworn character are used for function and charm on the porch. Little shabby wooden stools and tall metal stools are used as plant stands or to set a cup of coffee on. They can also be used to stand on to water flowers. All can be moved around whenever, but add vintage charm to the overall style. Scoop up these finds when you’re treasure hunting!
Festive Bunting Garland with Patriotic Style
DIY fabric bunting garland is an easy way to add festivity to your party or event. Hung from under the porch, it adds a punch of color up high. Get the full tutorial in “DIY Fabric Bunting Garland How To”.
Patriotic Porch Full of Vintage Finds
Our covered wraparound porch is one of our favorite places to hang out in the summer; especially if it’s raining. It’s fun to decorate it with vintage finds that reflect the seasons and holidays. Party light strings add to the nighttime ambiance (although we unscrew every other bulb so it’s not so bright).

Everything looks so good on your porch. I am a big fan of old quilts and have many. A great idea using on your seating. The croquet balls are a fun and whimsical touch! Happy 4th, Lora!
Thanks, Kim:) Yes, love old quilts and have lost count how many I have!
Lora, your porch is a patriotic explosion of vintage Americana-goodness! I love all of your vignettes and attention to detail. I love your croquet balls especially. I had just found my croquet balls in storage the day before the hop, so I didn’t get a chance to include them in any photos but I have since added a few to my plant stand as they always remind me of old fashioned summer!
So fun hopping with you. Happy Fourth of July!
Thanks, Amber. It was a fun space to decorate!
Lora, all your vintage finds look awesome grouped together on your patio. Looks like a fun place to hang out over the 4th of July holiday. Happy 4th.
Lora, all the thrifted and street finds you have are wonderful placed all together! I’ve seen those folded stars… I have my father’s (actually grandfather’s) folding ruler; I am sooo going to do this! And isn’t it funny how old urinals and chamber pots are now cool??! Really fun repurpose. 🙂
Enjoy your beautiful patio! I love the yellow on the walls and the soft blue on the porch ceiling. Really pretty!
Happy summer and 4th to you and your family,
Barb 🙂
Lora, you always do an incredible job with our challenges. I’m loving how you displayed the croquet balls, the wagons and flags. So patriotic and fun!
So many fun finds — especially for curb finds! Your porch is so charming and inviting — dibs on the swing!!!
Lora I am just delighting in this post! There is so much for my vintage-loving heart to see. The swing looks so inviting and I LOVE the charming toy-filled centerpiece.
Lora, your summer porch is so charming! From the vintage quilts, chippy stool, rocking chair and swing! Only you would use a urinal to hold flowers, lol! You’ve got a treasure trove of goodies here, it reminds me of a favorite booth to wander thrifted at the thrift mall! Happy summer!!
How fun is this. I love all of your amazing finds and how you’ve displayed them. Enamel Ware, Croquet Balls, The Pull Toys, everything is so fun and displayed in such unique and interesting ways. What a great place to hang out.
So, so cute you always have so many ideas for different vintage pieces to use. Those pull toys, red cart, and the way you displayed those balls. Thanks for all these cute displays.
Every nook and cranny has such fabulous pieces and character. I love the double banner, the basket with the croquet balls, the soft blues and reds, and the shutter with the enamelware – everything looks so fun! Looks ready for guests. Heck, I could spend all day out there! pinned
Lora,
You have the best finds. I love how you used the croquet balls in the basket. So clever.
LOVE!!! It all looks SO pretty, Lora! That cart full of enamelware is just gorg!
Also, side note…my husband’s grandma worked at the Tonka toy plant for MANY years…they lived right down the road from it, just on the other side of the (now gone) railroad tracks! Small world!
Beautiful!! Love all your vintage pieces…They add so much character!! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Hugs,
Deb
