See how you can decorate your home beautifully for christmas using thrifted home decor finds. Vintage style and subtle textures add beautiful layers in this Christmas decorated living room.

Merry Christmas! I hope your season has been merry and bright:) Ours has been quite busy with plenty of DIY projects at our daughter and son-in-law’s first home. Their 1924 charmer is getting a needed refresh so they can host our family Christmas! Of course our Christmas decor has gone a little more slowly this year, but I’m excited to share our Christmas Living Room with Thrifted Home Decor with you today!

Thrifted Finds as Inspiration
As usual, my latest thrifted finds inspired my living room Christmas decorating. A few random gray with white edged cups and saucers (from a garage sale free table) had me dreaming of a snow capped forest scene. And a $10 crocheted tablecloth and handmade crocheted ornaments got me styling lacey snowflakes with plenty of texture. I rummaged through my doily collection to find the ones that looked like snowflakes. So pretty on the wood shelves.

I don’t know if these pretty ornaments were intended to be hung or were meant for an unfinished afghan. I ironed them, sewed on bells and hung them with gold ribbon. I love their old fashioned style.
My best ever curbside find was these beautiful oak built ins. They fit perfectly on either side of the mantel and look like they’ve always been in our home. This is just my second year decorating inside of them for Christmas. My milk glass collection fills the shelves beautifully and can be enjoyed all winter with evergreens and pinecones.

Mixing Old and New on the Christmas Mantel
Our DIY Repurposed Old Door Trees are one of my favorite Christmas upcycled projects. They give such an eclectic vintage style to my home. To give them a fresh look this year, I added paper accordion trees around them. Everything and anything made with paper is trending this year. I still would love to make some paper chains to add to the scene, but time will tell if that happens. Such a fun vintage look that’s come back.
A vintage evergreen wreath was scored at the thrift store recently. I hung antique store deer antlers on it (wouldn’t a paper chain garland across the antlers be cute?) I love the rustic style mixed with the dressier look; the high-low.

I realized I love deer. We see them hopping through our yard often, especially in the winter. Whenever I’m thrifting and spot one I like, I bring it home to add to the collection. I also picked up several mini versions at Target the last couple of years. I love seeing them peeking out here and there in my decor. It adds “life” to your home.
Layering Textures for Subtle Beauty
Thrifted crocheted pieces are definitely a theme this year. Along with my collection of thrifted knitted and crocheted creamy white afghans, I added a pillow cover and lace edging. The edging makes a beautiful garland for the Christmas tree.
Watch for crocheted lace at estate sales or cut off edging from holey dresser scarves. You could also cut up a holey bedspread or tablecloth to make garland.

The rest of the tree is decorated with snowflake themed ornaments, both handmade and purchased. Years ago an old pump organ was taken apart for the pieces. The keys are glued together for rustic snowflakes. Pinecone garlands are draped through the tree for rustic texture.
My globe collection got treated to evergreen sprays and snowflake lights for a Joy to the World vignette. I just scored the cozy Scottish knit throw on a recent thrift store jaunt. Yes, I still haven’t sold the curbside velvet tufted settee we used for my daughter’s wedding (Antique Settee: From Curb to Wedding). It does work well for extra seating during the holidays. It’s been used at two weddings for the happy couples.

Christmas Coffee Table with Thrifted Finds
Our coffee table (From Vintage Roof Rack to Cool Coffee Table) is styled in quadrants with a battery lamp in the middle. I wanted plenty of metallic textures this year, along with the crocheted accents and velvet pillowcases; very luscious.
A couple of pretty gray pottery plates (thrifted) are the foundation for a glass cloche of pinecones and other Christmas accessories. A friend recently gifted me with the silver and I couldn’t wait to add a tree to it. The other chippy metal piece was found years ago at a junk yard; one of my favorite finds.

THESE ruffled velvet pillowcases are my new favorite thing. They are so luscious for the price, and add that winter cozy perfectly. I got them in 3 different greens and a gray for the living room and our bedroom. (Cozy Christmas Bedroom with Vintage Style)

Decorating with Thrifted Collections
One of my favorite thrifting accomplishments is whenever I can add to one of my many collections. Besides my deer, crochet, and milk glass collections, I’ve been keeping an eye out for old animal bells. They have such great character! I hung them as ornaments from my big metal organizer. Love all these metallic beauties together! Green satin ribbon adds another textural element.

SO glad I finally got over here and saw your fun and festive living room! The doilies and deer are my faves. I went to cleaning my glasses when I saw one set of deer and thought it looked like meat. LOL. I bet you’ve had so much fun helping with the kids’ new house. Does your daughter have your same taste in decorating? Merry Christmas!
Although she would hate to admit it, yes, she loves vintage, but with more of a cozy, boho, cottage vibe. I’ve done quite a few pieces of furniture for her, and she’s great at styling her pretty things. Hope you’re enjoying your holiday!
I love your green, white and silver theme, with the crocheted lace on your tree, the recycled door trees, it all coordinated so well. Thanks for sharing, I also enjoyed the other thrifting gals ideas too! Patty B
So glad you enjoyed it all, Patty!
So many cute collections and some I have and need to use them. I always love seeing what and how you decorate your lovely home, thanks so much for sharing. Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year, now to look again!!
Thanks, Marlene:) You, too!
LOVE!! It’s all so good, Lora! I always like seeing what you do for Christmas with all your collections. Merry Christmas!
Thanks, Rachel! Merry Christmas to you!
Beautiful and such unique ideas, Lora. I love the wooden trees and those knit ornaments, so pretty, happy holidays!
Thanks, Ann!
Lora, just beautiful. Love the way you spruced up the mantle ornaments. I love the deer, your tree, and the mirrors above built ins. The paper chain: go for it. A thin mini one with the colors of your velvet pillows and an ivory or soft cold sparkly paper. Merry Merry!
Yes, that’s exactly what I was envisioning, Roxie! Wouldn’t take long; gotta do it! Merry Christmas to you!
Lora,
You always inspire me to start looking for new and interesting things when I’m thrifting. I love all your deer. I collect them for Christmas, but not year-round, so I’ll be on the lookout. We also live in deer country here. I also loved your printer’s drawer as a backdrop for your wreath. I have two and have had trouble displaying them properly. Thanks for the inspiration, and have a Merry Christmas!
So glad you were inspired, Rachel! Yes, the deer can be enjoyed year round:) Merry Christmas!
