Loading Up the Treasures

When you’re shopping all the pretty vintage booths, you probably don’t think of this angle. Not only are dealers constantly on the hunt for vintage treasures, we’re always reviving, refreshing and upcycling items to put in the booth. Then we tag everything and fill our cars to the roof. Once at the store, I get to climb a big set of stairs a million times to fill my booth and make everything look pretty. Yes, this is why the prices need to be more than at the thrift store;)

Back to School Theme

August is the perfect time to feature the back to school theme. I luckily had a beautiful drop down antique desk as a foundation piece. An old army trunk, a folding wooden chair and an oak plantstand paired up well for all the other smalls to sit on.

All of the booth transitioned to warm fall colors. Warm wood pieces along with olive greens, mustard yellows and pops of orange welcome early fall. Old books, flashcards, a bell, photo albums and DIY denim garland (get the how to HERE) gives the back to school theme.

Retro picture frames got filled with fabric scraps to pop the fall colors. They’re so much cuter to sell with fabric in them, too!

Happily, the desk sold the first weekend. And I found a replacement to pop in right away. I still had most of the month to continue the back to school theme. Of course when items sell, everything ends up needing to be restyled…which is a nice issue to have.

As you can see, a lot got restyled, and I restocked with new items I brought in. But still with the back to school theme.

As I pulled in with another carload, a customer was buying a bunch of medium-sized pieces in my booth. Perfect timing! She told me my booth was one of her favorites and she comes to the store every month:)

Early Fall Colors and Textures

She bought quite a few anchor items on the other side of the booth, and was setting things on the floor. This side table, the little chair, the picnic basket and the big wall frame were sold, along with the shelf hooks. Luckily I’d brought a freshly redone coffee table to rebuild this whole display.

I’d also brought a couple suitcases with vintage paper decoupaged inside. They’re such a fun way to create a vignette this time of year. {see “9 Fun Ways to Decorate with Vintage Suitcases” for more ideas.}

Industrial Vintage Style

The front corner of the booth, opposite the school theme has more of a rustic industrial vibe. There are quite a few male shoppers that frequent this store and I don’t want them overlooking my booth, thinking it’s all ladies stuff.

One of the stools already sold along with the pumpkin. The toolbox arrangement also sold. The hydrangea floral baskets were popular, so I whipped up more to restock and keep the booth looking fresh. On the wall, you can see I brought in a commode harp to replace the large frame. I love using these upside down and popping a wreath in the center. Stoneware

I hit a great farm sale last week and found a bunch of great stoneware. Red Wing pottery is home to MN, so it’s a popular collectible. It’s also a great texture to decorate with in the fall. I grouped the stoneware pieces on my big store shelf in the back. The shelf is not for sale and is a great place to put more collectible pieces so they don’t get damaged.

So far the month has been my best ever since I moved in last April. Think it’s good to be ahead of the seasons a little for shoppers. Starting the first weekend in September, I will create a “Spooky” display for Halloween. I’m not a big Halloween decorator, but will focus on candy corn colors and hopefully whip up a few Vintage Quilt Witch Hats and a Stenciled Cobweb Mirror. Maybe even a few black cats will join.
