Materials Needed:
Old jeans, several pairs
twine, color of your choice
optional: trims, embroidery, buttons
To Begin
Cut off legs of jeans so it’s easier to get to the pocket. Cut around sides and bottom of jean pocket at an angle, so extra fabric will be behind pocket.

When you get to the top of the pocket, cut 1″+ higher, angling sides in a little. You can cut to the thicker seam part that you see here with the orange stitching.

When you have 3-5 pockets cut like this, you can make the garland.
Lay the pocket face down and squirt glue along top edge. Lay twine across below, leaving about 8″ at beginning, so you can tie up your garland. Fold the jean flap over the twine so it’s sandwiched under. Press down with fingers. If you didn’t use too much glue, twine should be able to slide back and forth.

Do the same with 3+ jean pockets, leaving 1″+ twine between each. It’s fun to vary the jean pocket designs. Maybe you can use some “fashion” brands that you remember from days gone by. (Jordache, Gloria Vanderbelt, Levis, Wrangler?)

Stay Classic with Your Jean Pocket Garland
Leave your jean garland plain and classic if you want it to be a chameleon for party or home decor. You can pair it up with other garlands for seasonal style. Tuck decor into the pockets to coordinate with your theme.

Add Trims for Boho Style
Boho, hippie style is hot right now. For fun, glue on a variety of colorful trims. You can even embroider flowers, designs or buttons on each pocket. Trims always make crafting more fun!

As you see here, you can make your garland as short as three pockets, or as long as you want. I’ve found if you make them 5-7 pockets long, you can layer them. If your twine didn’t get glued into the flap, you can take them off and string them onto something else-different colored twine or a ribbon.
Once you make a couple strings, you can use them anytime to give your parties pizazz, or around your house for seasonal decor.

Question – we are cleaning out an old farm home and there is furniture that has taken on the old musty mildew smell. I know you are refurbishing furniture all of the time. What’s your suggestion to clean up the wooden chairs and other wooden items. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.
