Repurposed Dresser Mirror Harp
Vintage dressers can be so fun to refresh, and even more fun when you multiply the potential of their parts! Without the standard combo of the mirror and harp above the base of drawers, the pieces are not limited to the bedroom anymore. The body of the dresser can be used for storage in any room in the house, the mirror can hang anywhere you’d like to reflect the light, and the harp that was holding the mirror? I’ll show you how to make it look it’s best with this Repurposed Dresser Mirror Harp idea!
Use all the Parts of Vintage Furniture, but Not All Together
A couple months ago I brought home 2 vintage dressers from our family cabin that weren’t needed anymore. I refreshed the taller one for Happy Girl’s new college-girl bedroom makeover. It turned out so pretty my mom didn’t even recognize it! You can see it in my post, “Dresser Makeover with Checklist Printable”.
This shorter dresser got a total refresh with a hand-painted bird for my mom. You can see it’s transformation in “3 Questions to Ask Before You Paint/ and or Stain Your Furniture”.
Refresh the finish of your Dresser Mirror Harp
The old mirrors make beautiful chalkboards {see them in “Simple Winter Mantel Decor Ideas”}. But the dresser mirror harp? I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it! I sanded it up and gave it a couple fresh coats of stain and some poly to seal. It’s beautiful wood tones were revived and would add that touch of old wood texture to the room .My goal was to have a nice balance of painted pieces and wood tones in the room, bringing a little sophistication to the decor.
Add Hardware to Hang the Vintage Mirror Harp
We popped some D-rings and some electrical wire on the back of the dresser mirror frame in order to hang it; nothing fancy here!
For added interest, I decided to keep the brass screws that had held the mirror in place. I knew they could be repurposed, too!
Hang the Repurposed Mirror Harp as Architecture
We hung the repurposed dresser mirror harp above the headboard from one screw, placed in a stud. 2 felt bumpers on the back of the legs ensured the freshly painted wall wouldn’t get dinged up.
A classic boxwood wreath with fairy lights brought the whole scene to life. The repurposed mirror harp frames it nicely.
Repurpose the Vintage Mirror Screws
To bring new purpose and usefulness to the old mirror screws, I crafted some simple checked bunting. You can see how to easily make it in “DIY Valentine Bunting”. The screws were the perfect way to tie the bunting on so it hung nicely below the wreath.
I love this classic look of the boxwood wreath framed by the dresser mirror harp and the bunting down below! The colors are subtle, but the variety of textures make it interesting and beautiful. The curves on the mirror harp echo the curves of the bed. The textures of the green wreath along with the character-rich wood and bird fabric combine for an organic, feminine look.

If you’ve got an old dresser with a mirror and harp on the back, don’t hesitate to separate the pieces! You can enjoy your piece of history in more than one room! A Repurposed Dresser Mirror Harp is a great way to rethink an old classic.
