Styling Cottage Inspired Spring Shelf Decor in the Bedroom
How do you style a shelf for Spring? This cottage inspired Spring shelf decor will inspire you to add pretty touches to your home decor for the season.

Spring has sprung! It’s time to pull out the eggs, bunnies, birds and flowers to fill your home with sunshine! I’m just starting to transform our home to Spring, and luckily the temps outside are cooperating, too:) Seasonal decorating doesn’t have to be overwhelming when you start with a simple shelf. Hope you’ll be inspired when you read Styling Cottage Inspired Spring Shelf Decor in the Bedroom.
Today’s post is part of our monthly Pinterest Challenge series, hosted by Cindy at County Road 407. If you’re visiting from DIY Beautify, I’m sure you enjoyed Cindy’s adorable Spring shelves with cottage vibes; she and I were on the same wavelength this month;) Enjoy all the rest of the inspiration at the end!
Inspiration Pic
Our inspiration pic comes from an Instagram account, @HouseonHeatherfield, via Pinterest. Did you know there are IG pics on Pinterest now? Sharon decorated her mantel for Spring so sweetly.
Design cues I noticed:
- three main accessories as a backdrop: Arch shape, round shape, tall belly basket
- woven basket texture
- green foliage + pink flowers
- trailing plants, ferns
- accessories: bunny, clay pots, carrots, green vintage books, eggs, metal watering can, old crate, wood bead garland
Now to see how my version came out! I didn’t decorate my mantel, because honestly I’m just not there yet. I’m just getting started with Spring decor, so I’m starting small…on a shelf in our bedroom (that kind of looks like a mantel).

Shelf Decor in the Bedroom
Here’s the empty shelf in our bedroom. On the wall above hangs my DIY Repurposed Mirror Frame with Vintage Tin; it’s one of my favorite pieces. It will provide the look of the arch in the back of the vignette. The shelf is a curbside find that I refreshed (my dad would say it needs some paint;)
Shop Your Home for Spring Accessories
My house is basically a vintage home store, so it’s easy to find what I need at home;) I ran up and down the steps to the basement and the main floor to gather all the items seen in the inspo pic. The only thing I didn’t have was a wood bead garland. Instead I grabbed a couple of old trim pieces that were wood and had a round shape on the front (that’s my interpretation).
Here is my big pile of accessories. I’m using a pretty vintage quilt I found at a church sale last summer. You can see how I decorated the room with it last Fall in Romantic Fall Decorated Bedroom with Vintage Style. You’ll be able to see the same room with the same features, but for a different season.
Shelf Decor Styling with the Power of Three
When you’re styling, it’s very easy to remember the power of three. You can use three main larger accessories as your foundation. But keep using threes of smaller items for a pleasing display. I talked more about using the power of three multiplied in THIS post.
I started with the three main larger accessories, like in the inspo pic: an arch shape in the background, a circular woven piece, and a wall basket.
I added greenery and pink arching flowers to the wall basket and a green wreath to the circular piece.
Other accessories are in threes, also. I used three metal pieces: 2 watering cans and a brass candlestick, spaced rather evenly throughout the shelf. I used three of the wooden circle trim pieces, too.
Cottage Inspired Spring Fillers
In between I added Spring fillers: cascading ferns, Spring eggs, burlap carrots and vintage green books to stand and to add layers. As a nod to the inspo pic’s wooden crate, I used a yellow painted cheesebox, tucking eggs inside.
Accent Lighting, Always
I love different accent lighting options everywhere in my house. It adds so much ambiance. I bought a set of these battery operated faceted mini candles (the kind you can clip to your tree) for Christmas, but I love using them all year long. I tuck them in glass cupboards for fun light effects, on bookshelves, anywhere! I keep the remote on my nightstand so I can easily flip them off when I go to bed (great wedding shower gift idea).
Cottage Inspired Spring Shelf Decor
Yep, this is the first sign of Spring in my house! Now to continue on elsewhere:) This shelf will get me inspired as soon as I wake up.
I’m continuing the pink and yellow theme throughout the room. I need to go dig out my Easy No Sew Fabric Tulip Wreath for my cupboard door. The bark cloth framed fabric I found last year coordinates perfectly. I draped a flower garland around the dress form for pretty.
Did you spot the cute little black wicker chair I found at a garage sale last year? I love black pops to keep all the pastels from getting too sweet.
Still have a little more decorating to finish in here, but it feels good to get Spring going, now that we’re getting some warmer temps…going to be in the 40’s this week!

Lora, what a pretty shelf vignette! I love the antique mirror you have sitting in the background becoming part of this challenge… It is the perfect arch with all the spring decor in front. Really fun and lovely display!
Happy almost spring! We are having a mini heatwave (up to 78 deg. in some towns) here in North Texas after last week’s 12 degree nights. Crazy weather!
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
That is crazy weather! Hope you get some “normal” Spring weather to enjoy, Barb:)
Lora you are a master at arranging beautiful collections! I always learn something from your genius posts, and I have to admit I’m kicking myself for packing away my little Christmas candles LOL!
Thanks, Michelle, I appreciate that. Yes, I keep all my special lights out and available all year long:)
I couldn’t believe it but today and most of this week it’s going to be full sunshine and in the 70’s so I am quite excited to continue turning my home into a springified wonderland. 😉 But I get it. You aren’t there yet. I can only imagine what that’s like.
But you are starting out with a bang! Your shelf turned out perfectly spring and has an enormous amount of happiness to boot. Love all the color, the layers, and the depth. And your bedding is adorable too! Thanks for joining us! pinned
We actually almost made it to 50 this week, so we’re basically to Spring, too; it’s been so nice!
Lora, we were on the same wavelength! I love your cottage shelf, there is so much to enjoy and it all works! That basket with the x’s is so sweet and I must know where you found that bunny!! I’m guessing you decoupaged it right?
My mom gave me Mr. Bunny years ago…maybe Joanns? But you could totally decoupage one to look the same; good idea! The x basket was a thrift or church find, I think. Always love those wall baskets.
Someday, I would love to see your stockpile of fabulous vintage finds. But mainly how you organize it all so you can actually find things. I’m sure its as impressive as you are. Well done Lora!!!
Aw, thanks Diane:) Luckily our basement is unfinished and is mostly for my back stock of decor items. Although I’d love more finished square feet, it’s worked well for my stash;)
I thought today as I was making my bed I need some Spring. Your room is so pretty and I could spend a lot of time in it, not sure if I could even get any sleep though,ha! I love it!
Yes, Marlene, it’s wonderful to have some Spring touches in your bedroom!
You have inspired me to find a place in my bedroom where I can hang a shelf! I love all of the spring details and charm that you added to this shelf. Beautiful!
So glad to hear that, Missy! Thanks:)
What a darling bedroom, Lora. I love the mirror and how you styled your mantel with fresh spring decor. You are so talented.
Thanks, Wendy; I appreciate that!
I absolutely LOVE your take on this month’s challenge. Also what a lightbulb idea to use the remote candles all year around. Truly brilliant!
Yep-love their pretty faceted gleam tucked into cupboards and bookshelves. Thanks, Laura!
SO pretty for Spring, Lora!! LOVE that tall basket. All the Spring accessories look super adorable…bring on all the pastels!
Yes, Rachel…ready to retire the red, indeed! Bring on the green and the pretty pastels of Spring!
Lora,
Stunning as always! All the vintage and textures are so lovely. I really love that repurposed vintage mirror! I don’t remember that one, but I plan to share it next Sunday on DRA. Have the best day.
Thanks, Rachel! Yes, it’s one of my favorites, honestly. Just can’t get enough of vintage ceiling tin:)
