Simple Fall Decor in the Kitchen
Fall decorating is all about textures. Outside the window, nature is putting on it’s best show while plants and trees are filled with beautiful vibrant colors. I love to capture a bit of this rich tapestry, playing up the deep colors and contrasting textures of fall in my home. Here’s my Simple Fall Decor in the Kitchen.
Today’s post is part of an “Embracing Fall Home Tour”, hosted by Amber at Follow the Yellow Brick Home. If you’re visiting from Decorate and More with Tip, I’m sure you enjoyed Terrie’s creativity.

This year’s Fall kitchen decor got scaled back from my normal. We are hoping to list our home soon, so I wanted to simplify my decor and lessen the overall vintage look. I wanted a little bit of Fall, but wanted the look to be more all season with a touch of Fall.
I used mainly kitchen themed items also, which is not my normal. I got in home stager mode and wanted to keep things very simple with lots of air space, so the house will shine rather than my stuff. It’s a fine line to add pretty, but simple enough so a future buyer can imagine their own things in our home. Of course, I’m a vintage home decor & DIY blogger, and there’s no denying that fact!
Mix in as Many Different Textures into Your Fall Decor As You Can
To break out of my very vintage decorating mode, I added some newer textures into the mix. Black and tan grainsack striped linen towels got simply clipped as cafe curtains to blow in the breeze. Bamboo serving bowls add a bit of mod to our open farmhouse styled shelves. Egg crate cartons give an organic vibe and are the cheapest decor ever!
Here are some of the textures you can incorporate in your Fall kitchen decor:
- rustic wood
- all types of metal, tarnished silverware
- pottery/clay
- colored glass
- bamboo
- linen/burlap, rustic-weave fabric
{You can find the “EAT” sign how-to in “Vintage Silverware Art for the Kitchen“}
Accessorize with Kitchen-Themed Accessories
Rather than go Fall-themed crazy like I usually do, I stuck to kitchen-related accessories. I purposely added in plenty of “new” items, so the shelves wouldn’t look all vintage. Shiny elements like brown glass vessels, a new aqua teapot and hardcover cookbooks hopefully balance out my vintage pieces.
Although I’ve definitely used Fall colors, I purposely used year round greens for organic texture rather than Fall leaves, etc. Hopefully a future homeowner would love these glass-front cupboards as much as I have.
You Gotta Have Pumpkins!
Of course, I had to tuck in some of my favorite hand-crafted pumpkins {“Fabric Pumpkin How-To”}, because we are in October. Classic brown on white transferware fills the plate rack and keeps everything subdued. Dried green hydrangeas from the yard add a natural appeal and that beautiful chartreuse green of Fall.
To highlight the cozy seating area at the end of our kitchen, I filled the built-in cupboard with vintage books and a few succulents {“Kitchen Cupboard with Antique Doors”}. A colorful vintage patchwork quilt adds some zip, along with a newly purchased pumpkin pillow; I love the pretty soft gray green.
I hope you see that Fall home decor doesn’t have to be really full. If you simply add in lots of varied textures and some simple fall colors and accessories, your home can embrace the beauty that’s happening outside your window.

Your styling for fall is just so pretty. I am totally in love with the shelving and the china!
Thanks for your sweet compliments, Christy:)
Lora, decorating your home the way you love for the season and keeping it “neutral” for buyers is a challenge. You’ve done a great job balancing that. All the fall kitchen items look like they belong in any kitchen. You’ve creTes some interesting vignettes to catch anyone’s interest.
Thanks, Carol!
Each photo was a delight! I love your clever EAT sign and all of your pretty dishes. Your home looks like a place I’d love to hang out. I have a thing for vintage kitchen items!
happy fall,
Jann
Thanks, Jann! Yes, we both love our vintage!
I went through and read your post twice! I wanted to take it all in! I love those blue and green goblets! They are absolutely gorgeous!!
Glad you enjoyed it, Kristin! Yes, I love pulling those blue and green goblets out in the fall!
Your kitchen is simply beautiful!! I LOVE understated seasonal decor! I have a tendency to overdo the decor sometimes, and always wish that I could tone it down!! You have captured the spirit of fall perfectly!!!

Me, too, Emily! It’s so hard to know when to stop when you love so many pretty things, isn’t it?
I luved your shelves so much. Such beautiful finds Lora🙌🏻
Thanks, Ann!
Lora I think you havve done a great job staging your house with an overall non-seasonal theme yet keeping and ode to Ocotber with just a few subtle touches. I love the cafe curtains and the silverware EAT sign, and of course your little pumpkins tucked here and there. So happy you were able to join the tour, Wishing you best of luck on the sell of your home!
Thank you for embracing fall with us!
Thanks, Amber! Always enjoy joining in with all the other talented ladies on your blog hops!
Hi Lora! I love your Fall kitchen! You truly have a knack for incorporating vintage items in your decor. I have a thing for vintage galvanized chicken feeders and I love how you incorporated yours into your decor. So happy to be touring with you!
I love chicken feeders too, Michelle! Still would love a big long one for our table!
I love your pretty vignettes and I also love seeing how your incorporate some of your beautiful antiques into the mix. Gorgeous.
Thanks, Marty!
If I were visiting your home as a buyer, I would pay way more attention to your decor than to the house itself. Your kitchen styling is so good and I enjoyed every single shot that you shared.
(faceplant emogee) That’s why I’ve honestly taken almost everything down, Paula;) Plus, I don’t want anyone wanting some of the things I love the most…don’t even let them see my green bedspring or my ceiling tin awning; I’m not parting with them! Who knows if this whole thing is going to happen sooner or later. Glad you enjoyed all the shots; I took them pretty quickly when the perfect lighting streamed in before church!
Your kitchen decor is so pretty! I love your shelf styling with all the seasonal color and unique pieces. So great to hop with you again!
Shelley
Thanks, Shelley!
Very pretty, Lora! Lots of great inspiration ideas, too! This getting a house ready to list thing is lots of work!
You’re so right, Linda! I’m overwhelmed; just want it to be over!
Always such a cool, vintage vibe, Lora. I appreciate walking that fine line between decorating and simplifying. Your signs caught my eye all over the kitchen… the unique EAT sign, the coffee sign (Ha!)…your decor has spunk and personality. I love that. Of course, I always admire DIY decor as someone who enjoys those crafts and projects myself. Happy to be hopping with you again!
Signs just have a way of communicating the heart, and the spunk and personality, don’t they, Crissy? I love adding some type of words to each room, and sometimes to each vignette! Thanks!
Lora, I totally get the staging and getting ready to put your house on the market. I think you did a wonderful job in getting your kitchen ready for selling your house. The old yellow mixer looks great on a shelf and the hydrangeas, amber jars and pumpkins add just enough fall without over doing it.
I had that mixer in the giveaway bag, Carol, and then I was styling the shelves & decided to keep it;) A friend gave it to me when she was cleaning out; kind of a boat anchor to store, but it’s doing the job here!
Lora, you have the most amazing collection of classic vintage kitchen accents and have displayed them so nicely for the season. I love the amber jug filled with beans and the basket of drying hydrangea blooms! Enjoy fall and all of those colored leaves outside, we just don’t get the colors here in Florida!
I love vintage kitchen things, Chloe, as you can see! And yes, the leaves are beautiful right now; we are soaking in the beauty!
I’m headed to the store to get white beans to place in my amber jars. Brilliant!
Glad to give you a new idea, creative friend;) Cheap + easy!
As always, Lora, I love your charming vintage accents, and your kitchen is festive and whimsical! Happy Fall! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
Packing all my dishes away is a full time job, Cecilia! But it’s nice to enjoy a little bit of Fall decor while I’m doing it;)
Lora, your new mix of vintage and new in the kitchen is just perfect. Speaking of mixing, is that a Sunbeam mixer? Love your easy fall style this year!
I think it is, Michelle! A friend gave it to me when she was clearing out. I almost sent it to the thrift store & then changed my mind when styling these shelves;) I do love the perfect mix of vintage and new to keep things fresh; you are so good at that!
So cute! I love the sweater pumpkins. They are adorable.
Me, too, Katie! Man, I had fun making those; kinda went a little crazy with them;) But they are so fun to style with all around the house!
Lora, you did a great job refraining from your vintage self. I think it’s lovely and the perfect amount of fall. I especially love the EAT sign with silverware! Feel free to ship that and all your adorable pumpkins to me. As always – love hopping with you!
I definitely don’t need to be encouraged to eat, Cindy, but I love looking at all that tarnished silverware everyday!
Lora, your kitchen Fall decor looks awesome. I am loving how you added all your Fall touches in the space. Beautifully done. Happy Fall Lora!
Thanks, Terrie! It’s probably the room with the most decor right now:0
I always forget about creating seasonal vignettes in the kitchen, Lora, but I need to start doing that! Yours look so good and I’m bananas for the shelves and vintage accents. It’s great! Hugs, CoCo
Definitely enjoy some seasonal decor in the kitchen, CoCo; it’s usually where you spend the most time! Thanks!
