Repurposed Bundt Pan Apple, or Pumpkin?
Old bakeware can easily be Upcycled into a fun, oversized apple or pumpkin for unique home decor!
Thrift stores aisles always have quite an abundance of old bakeware! On a recent treasure hunting adventure I spied these two red/orange bundt pans begging to be used again. I must be drawn to old bakeware for some weird reason, because last fall I created an “Easy Cake Mold Sunflower” to join my sunflower decor, and then whipped up a bunch of little “Tart Mold Pumpkins”. Maybe it’s because I love baking or I’ve been eating too many carbs lately? Whatever the motivation, these two old pans inspired me to create this repurposed bundt pan apple, or pumpkin?
While I was buying them in the store I was convinced these two pans were red. I envisioned a big, back-to-school apple sitting on a big dictionary. But once home, my apple started resembling a pumpkin. Guess you can decide weather you want your creation to be a fruit or a vegetable! With a little change of the foliage, it really could be either!
First I glued the 2 pans together with E6000 and weighted them with a big dictionary overnight. Next, I cut a tapered piece of green floral styro and placed it in the middle. I found a 5″ stick from my yard to look like an apple stem. I hot glued these in place.
Next I glued brown buttons to cover the styro. I also glued a big leaf on the stick stem.
It looks like an apple, doesn’t it? Well, maybe it’s a little orange for an apple:(
I’m still going to set it next to a dictionary. And a clock. For a “It’s time for Back to School” themed display.
Because that’s how my brain works…in theme. {see “Repurposing a Vintage Printer’s Drawer” for the clock backdrop}
Whether your kiddos are back already, or you’re attempting to accomplish the back-to-school list, if you’re in the mood for apples, check out my favorite cake recipe, “Caramel Apple Cake”.
If you’re looking for a fun teacher gift or decoration, you could make a simple “Origami Flower” on a pencil with my how-to and insert it into a fake apple. We sold these years ago at my former store and it’s still one of my favorite things for this time of year! (Sorry, couldn’t find the very old picture).
Next time you visit the thrift store, be sure to check out the housewares aisle and see their selection of old bakeware. Maybe you’ll be inspired to create a repurposed bundt pan apple, or pumpkin?

Great idea! I think it will be a pumpkin once put in with fall items! I love my 45 yo bundt pan and make Christmas wreathe cakes every Christmas. And ice rings for punch bowls!
I think my Bundt pans are my favorite baking items, Kathy! I use mine all the time, too!

Brilliant…how many times have we passed on these because of the color…nice way to have a quality pan and still use it for fun!
You’re so right, Sandi! I would never have noticed these if it wasn’t almost apple/pumpkin season! Thanks!
