Handpicked Favorites
A few of my favorite home decor items for the month of December, plus 4 recommendations from blogger friends.
Welcome to 2024 and Happy New Year! I don’t know about you, but I’m entering this year slooowly. No big energy to tackle new projects yet; I’m still pondering last year and trying to mentally handle our no snow winter:( A green and brown January is not normal for MN and it’s quite depressing! But we’re in a new month and a new year, so let’s kick it off with some Handpicked Favorites!

- For the last year and a half I’ve been living the fasting lifestyle. I’ve been able to reverse my Type 2 diabetes and my insulin resistance! My body is healing from the inside out. If you’re up for getting healthy in this new year, THESE little packets will help you do long fasts. If you want to learn more about fasting, I’ve got a few of my favorite reads HERE.
- If you think you’re an introvert and want to get to know yourself better, THIS faith-based Christian workbook has been so wonderful this past year. Holly Gerth is one of my favorite authors and she hits the nail on the head with guiding introverts into their God given strengths.
- Has the January organization bug hit yet? I’ve been wanting to get my office/studio clean and organized for the new year and THIS handy iron/ironing board organizer has been great to conserve floor space.
- Organizing craft supplies in an aesthetic way is always a challenge. THESE stackable, clear bins have been perfect to organize all my ribbons and twine by color. I can see exactly what I have and they all fit on one shelf. If you’re an out of sight, out of mind person, these will help so much!
Faves From My Friends

- Over the Christmas holiday, we visited our kids who live out of state. Their guest room was perfect especially since they had the most comfy memory foam mattress topper on the bed! We slept like babies. Our sound machine helped too!
- Yep, we took our sound machine! Have you tried sleeping with one of these? They are amazing! You won’t hear any sounds that you don’t want to hear! Of course, I took my pillow. I do not leave home without it!
- I’ve decided to start walking daily again. I did it for 3 years straight then broke the habit. January will be the month to begin. As soon as I am over this sickness! A new pair of sneakers, some warm exercise pants and one of these shirts with a slit for your thumb to hold the shirt sleeve down will be the perfect motivation!
- Winter means soup season around here. I cook a pot of soup on Saturday afternoons and hubby and I have food for the whole weekend! My fave is an enamel-covered cast iron dutch oven. This pot is the perfect soup pot not to mention it roasts a chicken and you can make sourdough bread in it! Seriously, it’s the perfect pot!

- The month of January is all about organizing and cleaning. I purchased this pack of bar mop kitchen towels and loved them so much – I bought them for my Mom and Sister. They are a game changer since they are soft, absorbent and the perfect size for wiping down just about anything. At the time of writing this – they are about $24 for a pack of 12.
- We have 2 dogs and now that it is winter and it gets dark early, we end up walking them at night. Also, since we live in the northeast, it’s usually 20 degrees or colder outside. So, when I found these warm, water repellent coats with reflective tape for our dogs, I could not buy them fast enough. Now our dogs are warmer, drier and can be seen easier.
- Using dull scissors in the kitchen makes me crazy and it isn’t safe. Finally, I purchased these Kitchen Aid Scissors and they are great. It makes me wonder why it took me so long to order them when they were less than $10.
- For the last year I have been mixing collagen powder into my morning coffee. Now I can’t imagine living without this supplement. My nails, skin and hair have definitely improved. As someone who is 50 years old, it’s something I can’t live without.

That’s awesome about getting your diabetes under control Lora! I have been doing intermittent fasting for about a year and I feel much better. Thanks for the list of books too! It’s always great to shop with you my friend!
Good for you, Cindy! Yes, I feel so much better when I’m living the fasting lifestyle:)
This is a nice post, glad you shared the fasting information. It can help so many people. I really admire Dr. Fung and have read his book. I started fasting in the 70’s, including some longer fasts. I feel they are very healthy. Nowadays I eat during a 7-8 hour window. I feel better doing this. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, Dr. Fung’s wisdom about fasting is so needed. Loved hearing about your successful fasting lifestyle; thanks!
Hi Lora. Thanks for the links. I ordered the book Fast Like a Girl. Happy New Year!
You’ll have to let me know what you think, Anna! I’m checking out your collagen powder, too;)
Hi Lora – just wanted to stop by and thank you for recommending Fast Like a Girl. I am 50 so this book is perfect for me in so many ways ( and in ways I don’t even know!). I have started implementing the lifestyle changes and will let you know how it goes. Thank you again.
Can’t wait to hear how it goes, Anna!
