Fall Bedroom Decor with Natural Accents
Get Fall decorating ideas for your bedroom by including natural accents with vintage finds
Decorating is definitely a process. It’s not an exact formula that just follows a set of rules. You need to work with it, make it your own. Sometimes the process develops over time, just like a good pot of soup! Today I’m sharing my Fall Bedroom Decor with Natural Accents and sharing how the process has been evolving this past month.
Today’s post is part of our monthly Pinterest Challenge, hosted by Cindy at County Road 407. If you’re visiting from Thistle Key Lane, welcome! I’m sure you enjoyed Michelle’s Simple Fall Bedroom Ideas. I’ll have all the rest of the inspired posts at the end.
Pinterest Challenge Inspiration Pics
My Fall bedroom decor was inspired by 2 of the Pinterest Challenge photos! That’s why it’s been kind of a process.
Last month’s inspiration was a Fall Mantel by Janelle Trinette. I decorated the shelf in our bedroom instead of a mantel, because I knew I’d be sharing my Fall mantel in “Decorating the Fall Mantle with Rustic Nostalgia”, for a Harvest Home Tour. At the last minute, I couldn’t join the Pinterest Challenge ladies to share it with you.
Here’s the inspo pic from last month:
I included many of the elements, but of course made it my own like we’re supposed to do with these challenges. I adapted the mantel look on a shelf behind our bed. If you’d like to see everyone else’s mantels from last month’s Pinterest Challenge, start at Cindy’s post, HERE.
So fast forward to this month’s inspo pic which is a Fall bedroom by Golden Boys and Me. I was excited I could incorporate this look with last month’s I missed out on!
I thanked Cindy for choosing a picture with a shelf above the bed;) Now all I had to do was add some of the other elements from this pic! Yes, decorating is a process!
What I decided to add from this picture:
- a couple books on the shelf, some standing, some laying
- an afghan draped over the end of the bed
- a wicker tray with a book
- pops of orange
- black outlines
- pillows with graphic punch
Let’s see how two month’s worth of Pinterest Challenges came together!

Fall Bedroom Shelf
Here’s how our bedroom shelf looked with the design elements from last month’s Fall Mantel picture.
Instead of the wheat wreath being on the coffee table, I hung it from our mirror as the centerpiece of the display. I also used the quote and made a pretty printable from it, which you can access in my free Insider’s Resource Library (sign up to be an Insider down below).
The accessories I chose were similar to the inspo pic, but I used birch logs instead of candlesticks, for a more organic look. And I added hydrangea clippings from the yard to add that pretty olive green I love in the Fall.

You Can Never Go Wrong Decorating with Old Books
Decorating with old books is one of my favorite decor secrets. I’ve got a hoard that I keep adding to, so I can use them whenever, wherever I want! I grabbed a couple gold and orange colored books and added them to the shelf, some standing, some laying, some with bindings out, some with pages out.
It was a subtle addition, but I liked the look.

Add Accessories to your Bed For a Fall Look
This month’s picture had more interesting accessories on the bed, and I also wanted to add that punch of Harvest orange, which will be reflected outside our windows on the Maple trees soon!
A thrifted wicker tray got filled with a special book a sweet reader gifted to me for the passing of my mom, The Fall of Freddie the Leaf (you can get it HERE). What a neat way to tell someone you’re thinking about them as they grieve. I also added a pretty fern plant I was given from someone else, and my favorite Fall candle scent, Orange Spice (get it HERE).
Touches of Black Give Decor An Outline
This month’s inspiration pic reminded me that black can give a wonderful outline to your decor. It punches up everything else. Black curtain rods, a black iron lamp and a few black accessories can add definition to your room, just like a black outline on an illustration from a book. Try it!
My thrifted granny squares afghan had the perfect colors to finish off the scene. I love picking up these inexpensive throws in seasonal colors; such a fun and easy way to switch up your seasonal decor!
Accent Pillows Add Graphic Punch for Fall
Did you notice all the fun graphic fabric punches this month’s bedroom pic had? If you look at her whole post, you’ll see she’s got plenty of vintage quilt accents throughout her room. I added the pillow covers I made last year {“Decorating Bookshelves for Fall, The Rule of Three, Multiplied”} to add that element. A new, fun vintage pickup truck pillow adds a bit of my style.
