10 Ways To Decorate Your Christmas Tree Differently Checklist
Looking for christmas tree decorating ideas? Here is a creative list to expand your tree decorating skills.
Do you pull out your artificial tree each year, get your box of ornaments you’ve had forever and decorate your tree in the northwest corner of the living room the exact same way every Christmas? Maybe I’m a little envious of those who are content to decorate their tree year in and year out like that. Because I’m the exact opposite! As each Christmas season approaches, I anticipate how I can decorate the tree with a new twist. For years when I decorated client’s homes for Christmas, it was my personal challenge to use their decorative elements in a different way each year. To challenge your tree decorating skills, I’ve created a 10 Ways To Decorate Your Christmas Tree Differently Checklist.
I may have to admit that the actual Christmas tree itself is my least favorite part of Christmas decorating. I don’t know if that’s always been the case, or if somewhere in my many years of decorating I just lost the love to attack those huge trees with excitement. I’d much rather build a beautiful mantle display, a pretty centerpiece for the coffee or dining table, or a fun, themed vignette.
Honestly, the Christmas tree is usually the last task I do on the decorating list. The rest of the decor theme has already been decided on {“How To Plan Out Your Christmas Decor”} by the time I finally get to the tree. The house is all sparkly and beautiful and I think, “Oh, yeah…I have to do the tree now.” But even though the theme, along with the color choices and elements I’m using have already been determined, HOW I’m going to style it all together is where the real artistry comes in. Time to put on your best creative hat!
Your Christmas tree can look new and fresh each year if you simply switch up the HOW!
Styling your Christmas tree is basically creating a work of art. If 5 people had the same pile of design elements to decorate their tree, each tree would turn out entirely different. I created this Christmas tree decorating checklist to challenge your decorating mojo. You don’t have to buy all new ornaments to get a different look! You can change the look by grouping elements, adding or deleting certain things, or even just switching up the type of tree or lights you usually use.
This post is filled with differently styled trees I’ve done throughout the years. The color themes vary each year. Sometimes I use ribbon, sometimes I use all one kind of ornament en masse. I may group ornaments in one area on the tree, which is fun if the kids are helping me, or sometimes I’ve adorned the whole tree with a theme, like wintertime.
I’ve amassed all these wonderful, creative options on a checklist you can download and print and even laminate if you want to keep it with your Christmas decorations. I’m hoping it will inspire you each year to style your tree as a work of art, trying something fresh and new each time. It makes the whole tree decorating process much more fun!
