Christmas Song Decorating in the Kitchen
Christmas songs are special, since we only get to sing them a few weeks of the year! Why not embrace them even more by decorating around one or two of your favorites? That’s what I decided to do in my kitchen this year! Instead of placing our nativity scene in the living or dining room where they usually go, I made them the center of attention in my kitchen cupboards! Today I’ll share the first of my Christmas Song Decorating in the Kitchen with the theme of “O Come All Ye Faithful”.
Today’s post was inspired by Amber of Follow The Yellow Brick Home who loves music so much, she decided to host a Christmas music themed blog hop! If you’re coming over from Beauty for Ashes, I’m sure you enjoyed Heather’s amazing creativity! I’ll have all the rest of the beautiful inspiration at the end!
Christmas Song Decorating in the Kitchen: “O Come All Ye Faithful”
O Come All Ye Faithful seemed to be the best song to go with the nativity scene. The wise men faithfully followed the star to come find the baby Jesus. The shepherds also came to see the baby King. The hymn book that I laid open to this famous carol has my husband’s grandfather’s name in it. I am so thankful for the heritage of faith our families gifted us with, and am even more mindful of the choice to seek and follow as my children are leaving home.
The shepherds and the wise men had to set aside their normal daily tasks to seek the Holy child. They had to go out of their way to seek, sacrificing time and resources. The choice to follow is never an easy one. But the rewards will bring joyfulness and triumph!
“O Come All Ye Faithful, joyful and triumphant…”
I placed the Nativity in the center of my cupboards, signifying Christ’s birth as the center of the season! I filled the cupboards with fresh greens and whites as a representation of new life. Flickering real candles and fake ones twinkle from each shelf, along with battery-operated star string lights.
My appreciation for our Christian heritage has found me collecting churches. These sparkly newer versions find me at thrift stores and church sales. I filled the cupboards with my collection, placing them on my vintage cake plate collection. Vintage green glassware was handed down to me from Grandma’s, so they’re a fitting match also.
On the long counter beneath, I laid a garland of bright greenery with white lights, tucking in sparkly sprays and giant bells. This length of lights is usually the first lights I turn on in the morning and the last I turn off at night. They just fill the kitchen with Christmas special-ness! (My cake plates are anticipating Christmas cookies…hopefully coming soon;)
My plate rack holds a set of Christmas Plates a childhood elderly neighbor created in pottery class. I cherish this special piece of her, and remember how she loved pretty things, too:)
I created a printable to go along with the “O Come All Ye Faithful” theme, which you can find in my post, “Christmas Printables”. I’ve been enjoying it near my stove, on my framed vintage ceiling tin { “Vintage Ceiling Tin Ideas”}. Last year I put trees in my “Sewing Machine Drawer Kitchen Organizer”. This year it’s just for function, holding all my stovetop tools close by. The colorful rulers look Christmas-y by themselves!
At the sitting area end of the kitchen, I decorated with a “Joy To the World” theme, which is kind of a continuation of the “O Come All Ye Faithful”. Pop back next week to see the rest!
One last glimpse of the Christmas Song decorating in the kitchen cupboards, from the other side. Green is my favorite color and I enjoy everything green in this “Kitchen Cupboard with Antique Doors”, that faces the little sitting area. How lovely! I really should decorate with music somewhere next year, since I am a piano teacher! You would think that I would’ve thought of that by now…. Thank you for sharing at Best of the Weekend– I am featuring you tomorrow.
You should definitely decorate with music, Liberty! You can have so much fun using a certain song as your theme. Thanks for the feature!
Your kitchen is so beautiful and I love the use of the Nativity and churches! I only pulled a few boxes out this year and I don’t have any of my nativities on display. I just have a few. One I bought in Prague, which is where my family heritage is from and I love it! Merry Christmas,
hugs,
Jann
A Nativity from Prague sounds wonderful, Jann; especially if it has family roots! Every year I’ve got things that don’t make it out; probably because I’ve got quite the variety to choose from!
Lora it is all so wonderfully creative! Your display of the the nativity is awesome and green is my favorite color too, so I love all the use of green. Your cabinets are packed full of beautiful treasures of the season mixed with your vintage finds. I certainly want to come back and see more of your before kitchen and your upcoming posts this week!

Those green glasses are pretty fun to bring out this time of year, Judith! Sometimes I combine them with red ones, but this year I was all about fresh and crisp in the cupboards.

Your hutch is absolutely stunning! I adore all of the green accents. Your home has truly put a song in my heart.
Thanks, Laura; I’m so glad! I designed the cupboards to look like a vintage built-in hutch, and I just love decorating the glass front cupboards seasonally!
