Just Add Pink!
After you’ve packed away the obvious Christmas items, pull out your pink! Add pink to the red and you’ve instantly got Valentine’s decor. I like to decrease the green a bit, too. But there’s always green in every room of my home, because I love to use real and faux foliage for an organic touch. And it’s my favorite color;)
I picked up these pretty vintage Chinese paper lanterns at an estate sale. I realized my new favorite battery operated candles fit perfectly in the holders! They are so much prettier with light inside, and you should see them at night! I simply switch off all my faux candles at night with the remote. The faceted flame on these little candles cast such pretty shadows inside cupboards. I love tucking them everywhere. (You can find the faceted candles HERE. Birch faux candles HERE)
Welcome to my Valentine’s Day decorated kitchen! I simple stuffed faux roses into my glass cloche and set it on a pink cake stand. Cake stands make everything look fancy and romantic, don’t they?
Enjoy Fresh Flowers and Live Plants
After Christmas the little live trees usually go on sale. I love to pick up mini cypress and rosemary plants and enjoy live plants inside when it’s all white outside. Valentine colored fresh flowers look so pretty on the widow sill; I’m addicted to Trader Joe’s flowers!
Display Pretty Dishes as Valentine’s Decor
I’m a dish-a-holic; Mr. Fix-it says I could “feed the 5000”. I don’t only use dishes to set the table or to eat off of. They can be the backbone of your decorating. For beautiful Valentine’s decor, I pull out my pink depression, my pink Fire King and my ruby thumbprint. The colorful glass plates catch the winter sunshine and give the whole room a rosy glow. I tuck footed goblets, stacks of dishes and cups and saucers into my glass front kitchen cupboards.

My vintage scale collection and other vintage finds are displayed with old stools, old books, cake plates and bread boxes to give different heights and add interest. Each shelf has a battery powered candle so at night there’s twinkly light on each shelf. Perfect for dark winter nights.
Decorate a Valentine’s Tree with Sentimental DIY Ornaments
When I was in college, I was feeling bad that I didn’t have a boyfriend:( One day in late January, my mom surprised me by bringing a whole box of handmade Valentine’s decorations to me, along with a cute artificial Christmas tree. She and my grandparents had made all kinds of pretty ornaments with paper, felt and glitter. Now that mom is gone, her hand-written bible verses about love are even more special to me.
I haven’t had the Valentine’s tree up for a couple of years, but decided this year I needed it. My Happy Girl just got engaged before Christmas, so we are all about romance and love this year! I just may decide to make a surprise tree for her apartment;)
Thrifted Blankets and Seasonal Pillows for Cozy Comfort
Thrifted blankets and seasonal pillow covers are an easy way to get instant holiday decor. Vintage pink afghans and wool blankets get draped over our furniture and DIY button heart pillows I made years ago add charm. Creating cozy is easy when you add soft textiles. I made the vintage quilt heart garland years ago. It’s so fun to bring out each year.
The sitting area at the end of our kitchen is the perfect spot to curl up with a pretty magazine or book and watch the birds. I’m so excited to dig into my friend, Stacy’s new book about flower gardening; the pictures are gorgeous! Find The Bricks n Blooms Guide to a Beautiful and Easy Care Flower Garden HERE.

That’s the best compliment, Lynne; thank you! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Only you and your fabulousness would have pink trays for the wall too. I can’t get enough of your cabinet either. I need to find myself a scale. Everything looks amazing and so fun yet romantic at the same time. LOVE IT!
Glad you enjoyed it, Cindy! Yes, I have vintage trays for all the looks;) Old scales are the best; you totally need one! I still need a green one…and maybe a red?
Lora, your Valentine tree brings tears to my eyes thinking about your family bringing it to you for Valentine’s Day. So sweet and loving. I always love seeing your hutch decorated for the seasons and holidays. Mixing Christmas basics with Valentines Day is so wonderful. You bring vintage items to life in your displays and vignettes.
I appreciate that, Debra; thank you!
Lora,
Thanks for all the good ideas!
I keep a lighted, seasonal tree up (about the size of your valentine’s tree) most of the year. I start with fall decorations, then Christmas, followed by valentine’s and finally Easter decorations after which the tree comes down for the summer. My husband is used to hauling in the “seasonal bins” and knows Sept. 1 that the fun begins! Over the years, I have found most of my decorations at $ Tree–.
Thinking of you and also remembering your dear Mom, my “Columbia Sister”. Kathy
So good to hear from you, Kathy! Mom was definitely an amazing seasonal decorator, too; totally where I get it from! So fun to hear about your seasonal tree; glad your hubs is a good sport about it, too! Thanks!
So many cute ideas, love what you have done in each room. I don’t do much but you gave me some new things to do.
Glad you got some ideas, Marlene!
You have so many inspiring ideas Lora, and those lanterns! I can just imagine how beautiful they look at night. So romantic!! It’s always a treat to see how you style your vintage treasures for each holiday!
Thanks, Michelle! Yes, I was just tickled to figure out how to get light inside them:)
These are all such fabulous ideas, Lora! I love that you leave your tree and all the twinkling lights up too. I do the same. There is nothing like being able to snuggle up and enjoy the glow during winter storms, you know? Plus don’t even get me started on all the pops of pink. You know I’m crazy for it! Can’t wait to incorporate some of these ideas at my home too. Big hugs and hope you have the best Valentine’s Day, CoCo
Yes, I love pink, too, CoCo and this time of year I just crave it! Cozying up by the lights on winter nights is the best:)
So charming and pretty, Lora!!! I love my dishes too and use them more for decor than actual eating 🙂 The idea of a Valentine’s tree is adorable! Also, those lanterns were such a fun find!! Pinned!
Yes, it’s nice to enjoy the tree a little bit longer;) Thanks, Rachel!
Lora, I would love to visit your home. First, to chat with you and second, to get a real-life look at all your beautiful, cozy-looking decor. You have an art for filling your home with meaningful things. So fun to visit!
Thanks, Yvonne! Oh, that would be so fun;) And you’d have to swing over to my neighbor’s, too; your blog is her favorite!
Lora this post is just chock full of wonderful ideas! I love the vintage lanterns and all your gorgeous pops of pink. I can’t wait to incorporate some of these fabulous ideas into my own kitchen.
