Simple DIY Bowl Fillers
With a little creativity you can DIY items to use as bowl fillers. Styrofoam spheres can be wrapped with color-coordinated yarn or you can make your own yarn poms. Both can fill a bowl (or birdcage;) themselves or be paired with rustic pinecones or log slices.
Vintage music sheets, book pages or old maps can be rolled or crafted into easy DIY decor, too. They’re the perfect lightweight filler for any vessel. Add glitter to the paper edges for holiday bling.

Bowl Filler Ideas for Winter and Christmas Decor
As you can see, the bowl fillers (or vase fillers) are what makes the vignette seasonal. You could use the same accessory all through the year and simply change the filler for the season. A simple wooden bowl can look different depending on what you put in it.
Hopefully these decorative filler ideas have your head spinning with ways you can turn your everyday accessories into festive holiday decor, inexpensively. They can be stored away and used again (in a different container) next year!

Love the ideas! Especially the fact that you can pack up the fillers each year and put them in different containers another year without having to store all of the containers away! I’m saving the suggestions so I can get started next year with oodles of new ideas! Thank you!
Great ideas! I really enjoyed seeing the variety. Loved the flared candle cups in the tops of canning jars. I have used them in flared vases full of potpourri (with extra essential oil). As the candle warms the vase, the oil smells heavenly!
That’s a great idea, Kathy! Thanks for sharing:)
Wow, Lora, so many fabulous ideas. I love how you put the poinsettia in the vintage tree stand. Brillant. I have one of those old stands in the shed. I am going to pull it out and plop a plant in there. Thanks for the inspiration.
Your welcome, Wendy!
No, I haven’t started yet so these are some great ideas, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed them, Marlene. I haven’t started yet, either!
These are all some fabulous ideas…since I’m a vintage/antique collector, I’m always looking for new ways to display items that we drag out only once a year (such a shame) lol.
Thanks again for the great ideas!
Glad you enjoyed them, Sandra!
You are so creative, my friend. Seeing your beautiful vignette’s reminds me so much of my mom. Happiest of holidays to you.
So glad to stir happy sentimental thoughts, Renae:)
Love all your great vintage ideas, Lora. You always inspire me with new ways of decorating and display.
I appreciate that, Debra; it goes both ways!

Yes, bowls work, too, Rachel;) Glad you enjoyed the ideas!
