This Month’s Inspiration Photo
This month’s inspo pic comes from Ann from On Sutton Place. Ann created a sweet Easter centerpiece with her pair of white lanterns. Ann added cute bunnies from Pier 1 and kept the look fairly neutral. If you click over to her full post, you can see the whole centerpiece better.

As much as I do love neutrals, here in Minnesota we have been looking at the white stuff for 4 months now, and my eyes need to see some green to make it another month (at least). We just got another 15″ last week and it’s going to take awhile for all this to melt!
Here are the design elements I noticed from On Sutton Place’s vignette:
- Pair of lanterns
- Foundational element (basket)
- Bunnies
- Carrots ties to lantern
- Branches in pitcher
- Rustic, natural filler
- Ribbon (around bunny’s neck)
- eggs
Now to see the more colorful way I interpreted this look:

What Do You Put in a Spring Lantern?
Instead of putting a candle in your lanterns, fill them with Spring things! For a big dose of green, I placed moss bunnies inside of two lanterns I own. My lanterns don’t even match; one was my mom’s and the other a thrift store find. Use what you’ve got and add in a few new things if you need.

I love the organic, green punch of moss bunnies. Each year my collection grows. They’re such a classic and I never get tired of them, like I do some of the more cutesy ones. Sometimes they come with a ribbon around their neck and I pull it off. I tucked them into my hutch display, too (which you can see evolving in the background;).

DIY Spindle Carrots Tied On
Years ago I crafted these DIY Spindle Carrots and I still loving bringing them out each Spring. I work them into my garden decor for Spring and Summer. I love the heirloom variety colors and still wouldn’t mind making some rosy red ones.
I loved Ann’s idea in the inspo pic to tie the carrots to the lantern’s handle. I used simple twine for a rustic touch. The smaller lantern got a cute grosgrain ribbon bow to further bring out the greens and browns of early Spring. (find twine in natural and many fun colors HERE)

Centerpiece Foundation and Fresh Branches
The inspiration pic has a wonderful large basket tray as the foundation for the centerpiece. I love incorporating the texture of baskets for Spring decor and placed several in my hutch display. But for this centerpiece, I arranged it on a DIY Repurposed Wood Lath Runner we made years ago using wood from our bathroom remodel. (see the bathroom makeover HERE)
A pretty thrifted green pottery pitcher was the perfect 3rd item in this centerpiece. It’s filled with fresh, bright forsythia branches from Costco; a sure sign of Spring!

Spring Textures to Finish Off the Centerpiece
To finish off the pretty Spring centerpiece, I added organic textures with faux cabbage, excelsior grass, more carrots and pretty eggs. I spilled them out from each lantern for an abundant look. Rustic greens and browns seem the perfect color combo to start the Spring season, with pops of yellow and orange. Lots of different textures are like the earth coming alive again.

Spring Lantern Centerpiece
Using your lanterns to decorate for Spring is a great idea for a centerpiece or anywhere in your home. Lanterns are such a flexible accessory to have throughout the seasons; you can use them singly or in a grouping. Have you jumped on the lantern train yet?

As you can see in the background, this pretty centerpiece got me inspired to decorate the dining room hutch, too! I’m still tweaking, but the rustic browns and moss bunnies with the white-toned plates felt good to me this year. It’s like Spring TRYING to push through the snow;)
