Fall Decorated Lunch for a Friend
Set a pretty fall tablesetting and invite a friend over for lunch!
The transition from summer to fall is beginning! The long, wild, hot days are waning and (hopefully) some cooler, more scheduled days are upon us. Once the kiddos head back to school, one of my favorite first week of school activities is to catch up over a meal with a good friend. Yes, it’s always easy to grab a bite at a local restaurant, but how much more fun and relaxing would it be to enjoy some quiet moments in my kitchen with some homemade food! Here’s some inspiration for you to host a fall decorated lunch for a friend!
I’m sharing this fall inspiration for a very special “Transitioning from Summer to Fall” blog hop today with 23 very talented bloggers! If you’re popping over from “County Road 407”, welcome! I’m sure you enjoyed Cindy’s fall creativity; I love her farmhouse, country style! A special thanks to Amber of “Follow the Yellow Brick Home” for organizing this beautiful hop, also! I’ll have links to everyone’s posts at the end; can’t wait to see all the beauty!
My pretty “Welcome Fall” wreath printable (in the first pic) will be available at the end of my post. A great, easy way to begin your fall styling!
On to lunch with a friend!
To keep a relaxed atmosphere, I love simply eating with a friend around our kitchen island. Everything is easily accessible. I can have a big pot of “Beef with Barley Soup” on the stove, full of late summer veggies! Soup, salad and bread is probably my favorite meal. A simple spinach salad with apples and walnuts is perfect for early fall, along with a rustic loaf of fresh bread, alongside the soup.
To bring a variety of metals to the table setting, I serve the bread in an old, industrial drawer with lots of patina and include a copper teapot alongside the centerpiece flowers. A simple length of some cute orange gingham burlap ribbon hints at the coming pumpkin season.
Two vintage pinecone metal trays stand in for placemats. In order to still be able to see their pretty image, I used amber depression cake plates under the brown transferware bowls. Olive green glasses are just as beautiful as they are functional for water and with glowing tealights.
For a sweet take-home gift, I placed a handcrafted fabric pumpkin {“Fabric Pumpkin How-To”} in the soup bowl. These pumpkins are so fun to make; I went a little crazy with them last year! I made so many, I even had to make a whole wreath {“Fabric Pumpkin Harvest Wreath”}! I think I may need to make a whites, subtle green and gray one for our bedroom this year;)
Fresh flowers make everyone feel special. I grabbed a pretty fall bunch at Costco and added some of my own green hydrangeas and grasses to fill out the bouquet. A big, brown pottery pitcher is the perfect texture for a fall!
If I have enough prep time, the fall decorated lunch would be perfectly ended with a cup of coffee or tea and some “Caramel Apple Cake”; my favorite!
We may even eat our dessert on my new, comfy furniture in the sitting area at the end of my kitchen {“Adding Vintage Feedsacks to New Furniture Seats”}.
There’s just nothing better than a relaxing lunch with a friend to get all caught up from summer! Hope you enjoyed this fall decorated lunch for a friend! Lora, what better way to celebrate the seasons than with food among friends! Love your idea and how you’ve carried it out here in this transitional post. I’d love to sit with you, enjoy a meal and talk all about the love of vintage we share!
That would be so fun, Rita! I’m sure we’d have plenty to chat about!
Ok I seriously have to say this is my favorite post of yours!!! Maybe it’s because I am such a fall lover, but I just LOVE this post so much. You have created such a beautiful, friendly lunch and all your details in writing the post make it feel as if we can jump right in the picture and share a delicious lunch and enjoy all of your vintage goodies. Since we didn’t become acquainted until winter, I am excited to go back and check out all of your amazing fall posts. I am crushing on the yellow chenille pumpkin! Thanks for the printable, I will be using it and linking back to your post sometime this fall.
Thanks for joining this tour Lora! Happy rest of summer and fall ahead!
Thanks, Amber;) Those fabric pumpkins were my addiction last fall; I made a million of them! I gave many to family and friends and made a wreath out of them, too. I’m so excited to bring them out again this fall…and may even make some more! See my posts on Fabric Pumpkins…
What a beautiful fall tablescape!! I love all of the vintage touches! So happy to join you on this tour.
Thanks, Heather! Fun to tour with you!
Lora, I love your almost-fall table setting! Serving the loaf in that industrial drawer is pure genius! And you know what? I have a copper tea pot that’s identical to yours! I don’t remember how I came across mine – must have been one of my many, many flea market trips! So happy to be on the home tours with you!
I don’t remember where I got mine either, Michelle…and it was only last year! Yes, this was a fun tour to be a part of!Thanks!
What a lovely lunch to have, I can almost taste the bread over here. I love your vintage touches you used on your table… the transfer ware, the amber dishes, the copper tea kettle! Sorry I’m late taking the tour, time got away from me!
Thanks, Angelina! I love incorporating all different textures, and fall has so many of them!
Your fall lunch for a friend is so sweet. You thought of everything!
Thanks, Michelle! Now I just need to whip up some real food…and call a friend;)
Whoever your friend is they are very lucky, pretty setting and good food great combination for friends to enjoy.
Thanks, Marlene!
Everything is just perfect! I love having friends over. The rustic pan you served the bread in is my favorite! Love, love the patina. The plaid pumpkin is the perfect take home gift and I love the idea of using the tray.
hugs,
Jann
Thanks, Jann! I sold a bunch of those drawers years ago, but kept this one since it had the chippy, aqua paint front. So glad I kept it! I did get quite carried away making those fabric pumpkins last year, but am so excited to bring them out this year!
Lora,
Oh, yes, lunch with friends is a grand way to celebrate a new fall. You would be having cornbread at my house to go with your soup. Such a cute way to serve your bread…
Happy Fall,
Judith
I love, love, love cornbread, Judith! And I do love cornbread muffins with Beef Barley soup; perfect fall-time match!
This is all so pretty, I love those fabric pumpkins!!
Tania
Thanks, Tania! I’ve been so excited to bring out all the fabric pumpkins I made last year! Think I need to make a subtle-tone wreath for my bedroom now:)
Hello Lora,
