Ornament or Gift Topper How To
Make a leaf/petal template with tag board, 2 1/2″ by 3 1/2″. Keep this, because you can use it again to make more easy upcycled fabric projects. (My “Easy No Sew Fabric Tulip Wreath” and “Leafy DIY Fabric Scrap Wreath” use the same pattern.) Make it look like this:
Cut 12 pieces for each ornament out of the fabric of your choice. I used an old wool blanket, a cutter chenille bedspread and an old quilt.
With a hot melt glue gun, place 1/2″ of glue in the middle and squeeze to fold. Do this for 12 petals/leaves.
Using a lid or something else round, cut out a 2″ circle of tagboard. Cut out 2 circles of your fabric too. Glue fabric to each side of the tagboard circle.
To get the petals/leaves even all around (which I didn’t do with the first one), glue them to the circle in this order.
Glue them standing straight up at 12 and 6 o’clock and then at 9 and 3 o’clock. Then glue 2 in the middle of each.
(This didn’t work as well; they weren’t placed evenly. Craft and learn;)
When the petals are all attached, knot a piece of twine and glue to the back to attach to a gift or to use as an ornament on the tree.
Lastly, add an embellishment to the middle. I used a pinecone, an old button, and a small tart tin.
Use as a Christmas Ornament or a Gift Topper
This is such an easy trash to treasure project you can make inexpensively. And no sewing involved! Make a bunch with different thrifted fabrics to hang on your gifts or the tree. Or attach one to a hostess gift of wine or homemade bread or jam. They’re so fun to make!
