Coastal Themed Decor for Cool Summer Hutch Styling
How do you decorate with coastal style? This charming beachy, nautical hutch display will give you plenty of vintage coastal themed decor ideas.
When you happen upon a fun theme for your decor styling, it’s easy to reinvent the look in a different area of your home. Last week I shared a “Nautical Themed Buffet for Dad” that a lot of you really enjoyed. It was such a great summer styling theme, I decided to expand the look to my whole dining room hutch! I hope this “Coastal Themed Decor for Cool Summer Hutch Styling” will show you that you can create this charming look anywhere in your home!

Decorate with a Beachy Color Scheme
Coastal themed decor calls for a beachy color scheme. Sandy tones with a variety of watery blues set the perfect foundation. I pulled out stacks of ironstone plates and vintage blue bubble glass along with thrifted aqua blue ceramic dishes. Large white ironstone oval platters stand in the back so other accessories show off better in front.
Thrifted and Gifted Coastal Themed Accessories Add Charm
Over the years I’ve collected a small variety of decorative boats. A small vintage sailboat was from a beloved aunt, a large, handmade sailboat was found in a curbside pile, and my daughter just gifted me a cute rustic sailboat as a gift. The variety of boats gives this display a collected-over-time charm.
I scored the lighthouse recently at a garage sale for $1. Thrifted sand shovels and lithographed metal buckets are vintage finds I’ve found through the years.
Decorate with the Wind and the Waves
As you’re gathering your coastal themed decor, use anything that reminds you of the wind and the waves. I grabbed an old fan and a blue kitchen scale for a vintage vibe. Different colored corbels look like frothy waves. Scalloped galvanized cake plates look wavy, too. Ceramic and aqua glass vases add that pretty watery blue along with great texture that reflects like water.
Add a Personal Touch and Plenty of Natural Texture
A beautifully styled display in your home is so much more charming if you add personal touches. Incorporate items you’ve brought home from trips-shells, postcards, and driftwood are wonderful for a coastal theme.
I strung postcards we picked up from our Alaskan cruise on simple twine and draped them across a mirror at the top (see our Alaskan trip highlights HERE). Shells we’ve gathered from many trips were turned into a beautiful seashell wreath (see How to Make a Sentimental Sea Shell Wreath HERE). Dried starfish from someone else’s vacation were found at a church sale; they’re sprinkled all around.
Coastal Themed Decor, Vintage Inspired
It’s so fun to pull together a themed decor look like this. Once you choose your color scheme, you can shop your home for accessories and add thrifted items as you find them. Coastal themed decor is a great summer look for your mantel, a hutch, a whole room, a party, or a simple picnic buffet.
The coastal theme is spread to our bay window ledge. A couple of old tool caddy’s filled with sea shells, more dishes on stands, and pretty candles and greenery fill the space and coordinate the look around the room.
Simple DIY bunting adds to the summer decor charm. (get the easy How To HERE)

Yes, it does! Thanks:)
Another charming display! Really liked the last 2 weeks themes. A fun change from floral/ birds ( which I always love & tend to gravitate towards) . There is just something about water: lakes, oceans , ponds, rivers – you get the drift 😊
Hoping you’ll share some of the wedding details. I’m sure whatever you & your daughter come up with will be spectacular! Happy planning!
Yes, definitely feeling the summer switch from the birds happening. Decorating with a water theme, wherever you are in the summer is a great way to think cool! Yes, will be sharing some wedding details, for sure;) Thanks, Shelly!
Beautiful, Lora. You have so many wonderful coastal elements. Love your shell wreath and fun galvanized caddies filled with goodies!
Thanks, Debra! It was fun to pull a different look together:)
LOVE IT!!! Such a creative use for architectural pieces like those corbels! The blue bubble glass really reminds me of the ocean. Each piece combined together creates such a stunning display.
So pretty for the season!!
