Add Holiday Flourish to your Outdoor Furniture
Holiday outdoor decor doesn’t need to be limited to lights, roping, and spruce tips {see “Spruce Tips 101”}. Instead of hibernating for the winter, your outdoor furniture can become just as special as your indoor Christmas decor! By adding a couple of inexpensive, natural and thrifted items, your entry, deck or porch can be a welcoming feature from the outside and the in! Here are some great ideas to Add Holiday Flourish to your Outdoor Furniture.

Gather Everything You’ll Need to add Outdoor Holiday Flourish
Make a trip to the thrift store and scrounge up some old scarves, afghans, and ice skates to get started. Grab a clipper and trim some of your trees and bushes. Make sure you have some of my favorite bindwire and chenille stems {you can get them HERE and HERE}, so you can style like a pro. Then you’ll be ready to add a little pretty to your chairs, benches, even a table!
Add a Scarf to Your Outdoor Chairs
Remember the vintage metal chairs I refreshed? {see “How To Refresh and Enjoy Vintage Metal Lawn Chairs”} I don’t send them all to the back forty; I dress them up with some flair to enjoy them all winter long. This year, my two “new” blue ones inspired my porch decorating. I decided to add some blue to the red, green and black color scheme of last year {“Porch Decorating Fun”}.
It’s so easy to wrap and tie a long thrift store scarf around these old metal chairs. Simply attach a couple of pinecones to the knot, tuck in a spray of winter greens, and your chair looks as festive as a present! Don’t worry…no one wants to sit on a cold metal chair in the winter; this chair is now art!
If your scarf isn’t quite long enough to wrap around the whole back, simply tie it to one of the arms. I love the addition of the large-sized pinecones also. {you can get them HERE}
Add a Wreath to the Back of a Bench
The wonderful feature of outdoor benches (and sometimes chairs), is their ability to let the air flow through their frame. Wreaths, skates and other flourishes can easily be wired to the backs and twisted and secured on the backside. Here in MN, we don’t spend much time sitting on cold metal chairs in the winter, so why not make them pretty to look at from the inside?
Accent Your Outdoor Furniture with a Winter Afghan
Wool blankets are naturally weather resistant and can stand up to the weather, when protected by an overhang. Drape some colorful blankets over the arm and seats of your outdoor furniture for a splash of color and some warm, cozy texture. (And if someone really wants to sit, it will be a little more comfy;)

Add Winter Centerpieces to your Outdoor Tables
Tabletops and other flat surfaces can also be treated to a cold weather centerpiece or vignette. If you’ve got a potting table, decorate it with some wintertime pretty! My patio coffee table got treated to some freshly cut greens and pinecones tucked into my Vintage Fencing Squares {“Repurposed Vintage Fencing Squares”}.
Add Garland to your Outdoor Furniture
My antique stove got treated to a little DIY Christmas garland to convey a happy greeting. I simply stenciled on some old Bingo game cards and strung them on some Baker’s twine. Luckily, my covered porch enables me to add some fun flourishes like this, without being covered in inches of snow.
Have your creative juices started flowing? Are you eyeing your porch furniture in a whole new way? Ready to get out your garden clippers and start trimming your bushes and trees? I hope these ideas will unleash your inner stylist and you’ll be on the hunt around your home and yard for some extra flourish!

Winter’s pretty long here in the great north, and we’ve got to make the most of our outdoor beauty. Now, if we could just get a nice sprinkling of the white stuff to set everything off! {You can see pretty pictures with snow in “Snowy Junk Love”}.
