Winter Decorating with Snowy Thrifted Art
Need winter decorating ideas? Thrifted finds with a snowy theme are a great foundation for winter decor. Here are decorating ideas for using thrifted winter art in your home styling.
After you take the Christmas decor down, your house can look kind of…sad and lonely. Many wonder, “How should I be decorating now?” Luckily thrift stores and vintage shops can spark your winter decor if you know what to look for. Here’s how Winter Decorating with Snowy Thrifted Art can inspire your home styling right now.
Thrifting with the Gals Team
I’m joining my Thrifting with the Gals pals today to kick off a whole new year of vintage treasure hunting!
- Ann from Dabbling and Decorating thrifts in her home states of Vermont and Maine. We love to see how she decorates her cozy, antique-filled homes. And she’s starting a new adventure with vintage glamping!
- Rachel from The Ponds Farmhouse thrifts in North Carolina. She loves using her finds for DIY crafts projects and decorating her custom home with vintage industrial style.
- Robyn from Robyn’s French Nest thrifts in sunny Florida. Her neutral French style embraces character-filled vintage finds, and she loves sharing her home decor styling secrets.
- I’m the farthest north in Minnesota. I love treasure hunting curbside, along with thrifting secondhand at vintage shops, estate sales, church sales and thrift shops (depending on the seasons). The farther gone an old piece is, the more I love it and want to bring it back to life, sometimes a whole new way.
Each month we love to have a fellow vintage thrifter join us. Contact one of us if you’re interested!

Thrifting for Winter Art
Thrifted winter art is a great way to inspire your winter decorating. Snowy scenes can be found on many different home decor accessories. When you’re shopping secondhand, keep an eye out for some of these finds:
- Amateur paintings: You don’t have to spend a lot on professional art. There are wonderful paintings done by everyday people that can be found secondhand. Estate sales and thrift shops are great places to find these inexpensively.
- Old metal tins: Many old metal tins that contained crackers and cookies depict vintage winter scenes. Stand or prop them up to include them in a vintage vignette.
- Plates: Many vintage plate patterns have winter scenes. You don’t need to buy a whole set of them. Simply stand one in a plate stand or work it into your buffet or shelf styling.
- Paint by numbers: PBN’s have classic winter scenes. Vintage versions are getting harder to find, but are always available on Etsy. You can also buy new versions and paint them yourself.
- Needlepoint: Needlepoint winter scenes are a great textural accent to use for cozy home styling.
- Printables: Etsy is a great place to find inexpensive winter art that you can print by yourself at home. Pop it in a frame, or simply clip it to an old clipboard.
Choose Your Favorite Snowy Scene
It’s fun to choose your favorite snowy scene when thrifting for winter decor. Are you drawn to snow capped mountains? Cozy cottages covered in deep drifts? Pine trees bending with heavy flakes, or maybe ice skaters and skiers? Whatever is your favorite, choose the snowy scenes that you can pair with your decor.
As I was thrifting around Christmas time, I found several snow covered churches that pair well with my church collection. I styled a bookshelf in the hallway for Christmas and simply transitioned a few things after as winter decor.
Coordinate Colors to Your Winter Art
Whatever thrifted winter art you find can inspire your vignette’s color scheme. At Christmas, I added red books to this bookshelf display of winter art. After Christmas, I took out the red books and swapped them to blue. The cool tones are perfect for this time of year.
What Accessories to Pair with Winter Art Finds
Use the subject matter in your winter art as your launching point for styling. I love to bring out all the yarny things in the winter to add to vignettes. Yarn wrapped styro balls are a great filler and can be easily crafted. I’ve been finding old thread spools lately as I’ve been thrifting. I tuck them in here and there and add little bottle brush trees to the top, too.
You can also use sticks, pinecones and evergreens, along with scarves and mittens. All about the cozy and natural. Skis, skates and old clocks for the new year are fun additions, too.

THESE little battery faceted candle lights are wonderful to add twinkle to winter styled shelves and cupboards. I tuck them everywhere and control them with the remote. You’ll use them all year long!
Hope you’re inspired to find winter scene art to add to your home decor styling! Embrace the cozy of the season!

Every painting is so lovely, Lora. Cozy and warm in color and style. I am always searching for vintage and thrifty art, but it seems hard to find here affordably. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pieces. Happy New Year!
