Vintage Napkin Runner
Vintage linen square tablecloths usually came with 4 or more of these lovely patterned napkins. The set was often used on card tables for Bridge games and wedding or baby showers. I’ve always been drawn to their pretty, vibrant colors and designs. Yes, they can be used as napkins, but that’s just too…expected for me. Today I’ll share the re-purposed runner idea I came up with to still enjoy these napkins on the table, just in a different way!
The idea was inspired by how fun my “Valentine Handkerchief Chargers” were to make, and how easy they were. I simply used Spray n Bond’s Fusible Adhesive to adhere the napkins to some white fleece fabric, following the directions on the can. (See the post above for more detailed instructions)
I first ironed the napkins and then sprayed the adhesive on. I let it dry a little and then lined them up on the fleece. Per the instructions, I ironed to adhere and then trimmed off the excess fleece, cutting close to the napkin edges.
Even though the napkins were adhered to the fabric, I decided to zig-zag stitch over where the two napkins joined together. Zig-Zag stitching could also be done around the perimeter of the runner, but I didn’t have the patience for that today, and it’s not necessary. I’ve got an Easter table to set for a party!
I ended up making three of them, each a little different:
This was my last creative project to accomplish for my Easter table! I’m planning on using the “Leafy Placemats” along with some I purchased last year. I have the centerpiece already made {“How to Build a Centerpiece”} also. Now I just need to get out the dishes and add some finishing touches I’ve got in my head!
You can see it this Wednesday, 3/28 for the Vintage Easter Joys Blog Hop!

After you enjoy the party on Wednesday, 3/28, I’d love if you’d come back on Friday and SHARE YOUR OWN Easter/Spring inspiration! Because it’s my first time to do this, and you know when you host a party and are a little nervous no one will show up? Yea, that.
Please pop back and share what you’ve been up to! Your posts will be seen on all 12 of our blogs!
Instead of a tablecloth this Easter, why not try to whip up a simple Vintage Napkin Runner instead? It’s a great re-purpose of something that was meant to be used on the table anyway, right? Everything’s more fun when you use it differently!
Sharing at these lovely parties:
So vintagey kitchenish! May I come for tea please?
I’ve featured this in this weekend’s DIY Salvaged Junk Projects. Thanks for linking up! 🙂
Awesome! Thank, Donna!
Cute idea! Great way to pay tribute to those who came before you and probably used such linens. Visiting from Talk of the Town.
Thanks, Victoria! And Happy Easter!
