Spring Decorating with a Bird Theme
Gather your vintage bird-themed accessories and have some fun decorating for Spring!
It is officially Spring! The birds are chirping like crazy outside my window and are busy building their nests. If you like you indoor decor to reflect what’s happening outside your window, what better way to decorate than with a bird theme? Get ready to raid your cupboards and closets for today’s Spring Decorating with a Bird Theme!
I’m joining my Pinterest Challenge buddies today, headed up by Cindy from County Road 407. We’re all decorating around a pretty birdhouse-themed picture this month. If you’re popping over from Bluesky at Home, I’m sure you enjoyed Carol’s pretty birdcage vignette!
Today’s inspiration photo is a pretty birdhouse centerpiece from Hymns and Verses.
Doreen’s centerpiece is actually a lovely tablescape with the bird theme. I’m going to focus on just the centerpiece, because I’ll be creating my own look in our cozy kitchen seating area, where we thoroughly enjoy watching the birds outside the patio door.
First, Let’s Take Notice of the Design Features:
- Foundational base-wicker tray
- Birdhouse
- Aqua Ball jar with Spring flowering branch
- Bird image
- Nest with eggs
- Galvanized pail with white flowers
- Color scheme: whites, blues, and greens with black outline
Ready to see how we all interpreted this look? I can’t wait! I’ll have all the links down below.

Start Your Display with An Anchor Piece
Our inspo pic started with a wicker tray as the foundation. Because our coffee table is rustic wood {“From Vintage Roof Rack to Cool Coffee Table”}, I wanted to use something brighter as the anchor for this vignette. A vintage pie safe with some pretty blue details would work perfectly. The anchor piece is usually the largest piece of your display. Sometimes it’s what you’re putting everything on, but not always. I’m all about breaking the rules;)
Next, Add Your Bird-Themed Accessories
I love me some bird-themed accessories! I usually decorate my whole kitchen with the bird theme in Spring, so this was right up my alley! {read my “5 Tips for Vignette Theme Building: Bird Themed Decor“}
Here are some bird-themed items you can add:
- birdhouses
- birdcages
- nests
- eggs
- branches
- feathers
- moss
- leaves/foliage
- illustrations/images of birds
- bird figurines/statues
- dishes with birds on them
- birdseed
- worms?…maybe not.
My birdhouse was made by my husband’s uncle, so I not only love how it looks, I love it’s sentiment. I placed the mossy nest inside a grapevine thingy for a nod to the inspiration photo’s woven tray. Luckily, I just picked up the cute little bird book on a recent vintage shopping trip; love the colors!
Bring in Other Accessories with Your Color Theme
To round out this display and spread it to the whole space, I added some of my green and clear flower frog collection on top of the pie safe. I clipped some of the branches from our crabapple tree (that will eventually leaf out and get pink flowers) and popped them in a blue Ball jar.
I also added a little bird statue I’ve had for years. In fact, one of my kids, when they were little, took a pencil and drew around his eye. I wasn’t too pleased at the time, but I’m thankful for the memory.
Are you seeing all the elements from our inspiration photo now? Plus some others on my list, above?
Add Bird Themed Decor All Around
I always preach that an arrangement should look good from all sides, if all the sides are visible. Most of this vignette faces one of our comfy chairs, because I really enjoy sitting here and sipping my coffee in the morn. I love to look at this pretty view, along with the view outside the patio door.
But, if we sit in the loveseat, I didn’t want to look at the blank back of the pie safe. So, to add a little more bird theme to the scene, I hung a vintage picture from the edge with an “S” hook. I also added the little norway pine tree I scooped up after Christmas. Now it’s a pretty view from all sides!
Spread the Theme to the Rest of Your Decor
So many times a little vignette like this gets me started, and I keep running with it to the rest of the room. I brought out my blue, green, and brown bottles and popped some faux white flowering branches in them. I love decorating this chicken feeder through the seasons. I’ll also be spreading the bird theme to my glass kitchen cupboards…I’ve got a lot of bird accessories!

Here’s my coffee-sipping view; it makes my heart smile:) Ah, Spring…I was so ready for you!

March Pinterest Challenge: Bird Decor Theme
Sharing at these lovely parties:
I actually live on “Songbird Road,” so I love having bird-related decor. Sometimes I find nests that have fallen out of trees and I love to admire their architecture. I’d love tips on how and where to store out-of-season treasures. Where do you keep all of the things you aren’t currently using? Any special ways to organize?
I’m jealous of your street name, Michelle! How sweet:) If you’re looking for organizing ideas, check out my post: https://lorabloomquist.com/10-storage-and-organizing-ideas-for-seasonal-decor/ Hopefully that will give you some ideas!
Hi Lora!
Your imagination and creativity are endless! (I’m sure you have your days when you just feel stuck, but you always Spring back!). Your wall vignette behind the smiley happy table scape is tops 🤩. The metal shelf, the wood sign with the wreath “door” and the UPSIDE DOWN shelf making the shape of a birdhouse is the peak of Perfection. I bow to the Queen of Creativity!
You’re so sweet, Beth! Thanks for the wonderful compliments; I appreciate it!
I always enjoy the gorgeous seasonal vignettes you put together in your home, Lora. I have such a fondness for bird decor, year-round. Thank you for linking your lovely Spring home with us at the Snickerdoodle Party. You are being featured this weekend! Happy Easter 🙂
I love birds all the time, too, Marie! But especially in the Spring when they’re singing so beautifully:) Thanks so much for the feature!
Lora, I just adore all your birdhouses and how you used them in your decor for spring. Your talent for vintage vignettes just blows me away! Thank you so much for sharing this with us at Farmhouse Friday – we’re featuring you at tomorrow’s party!
Wonderful! Thanks for the feature, Michelle:)
Oh my….there is so much vintage and spring goodness to love! I absolutely love your take on this challenge and the bright springy colors! I adore all the treasures, but the vintage bird picture is my favorite treasure.
I am happy to hop with you again and to feature this post at tonight’s All About Home Link Party. Hope you will join us again this week!
Happy spring!
Thank you, Amber! And thanks so much for the feature:)
Lora,
This is all so beautiful and inspiring! I am so crushing on that bird print! Your home is just picture perfect for spring.
Lora, I use a lot of birds and blooms in my decor, too. Love your vintage book vignettes! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm!
You can’t go wrong with vintage dishes, birds and flowers;)
You inspire me so much Lora!! Always! I love every inch of this post! Your bottles and blooms on the wall and the vignette of flower frogs is all so fabulous!
Thanks for your sweet words, Kristin:) I’m so glad you go away inspired! And you’ve got all the great vintage, too!
I just love how you spread your bird theme to the rest of the room, Lora, especially with all those colorful glass jars! I always enjoy seeing all the vintage goodies you incorporate throughout your vignettes and this is no exception. Really liked the flower frogs! Great job and so inspiring!
Thanks so much, Kim! I love running with a theme; it gives me a framework to be creative in!
I always enjoy seeing your creativity, and I’m crowning you the queen of spring bird decor, Lora! I love all the special touches and your attention to detail. That birdhouse from your husband’s uncle is especially unique! Pinned!
I will happily and gratefully wear the crown of Spring bird decor, Crissy! I do love bringing it out this time of year:) And watching all the real-life birds, too! Always fun to hop with you!
Okay, I might have giggled a little picturing one of your kids draw around the eye of the bird. And maybe I did that to one of my moms birds too – maybe. Good times because she never noticed. LOL! I love how you met this challenge and how you spread the beauty all around the room. I need to do more of that. Thanks for being in the group. I always love your interpretations. 🙂
I kinda forget which one it was, but I could guess…;) They always knew mom was pretty serious about the “only for decoration” rules! Luckily now they appreciate the pretty, cozy home they grew up in! Love being in your groups, Cindy! You always make it fun:)
Once again your vintage styling is giving me lots of new ideas to try out! The bird house is just the best and has so much character. Love the little Blue Book of Birds too! What a special find!
Yes, I had an orange little bird book, but this color variety had me at hello! So glad you went away with new styling ideas, Michelle!
Lora I love your bird theme spring decor! And appreciate how you broke down the inspiration pic that you made your own. Have the best day! xoxo
Thanks, Stacy! It was a fun one, indeed:)
Thank you for all your inspirational ideas for Spring.
Your welcome!
Love all your bird themed and springy decor, Lora… The blues and greens together are just so pretty! And that pie safe! So lovely!
I love the blues and greens together, Julie! Especially in the Spring and summer…but probably all year round!
Lora, your birdhouse and bird vignettes are lovely!!! I sooo want to pin more of your photos but the Pinterest button at left and above only picks just the main photo… I do love your pie safe! Years ago we had the opportunity to buy an 1870’s pie safe and it was in terrific shape, but we couldn’t afford it nor could we get it home, so we didn’t buy it. I regret it as it would have been loved forever. Maybe I’ve shared that before, but I still think of that lovely walnut stained safe and its lovely punched tin door inserts…
Enjoy your pretty living room with all it’s sweet birds, all the pretty bottles (another photo which would be perfect on my Beautiful Bouquets board), and the flower frogs with birds!!!
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
Thanks, Barb! I’m curious…do you have the Pinterest chrome extension? I have it and have a little Pinterest icon right up in my browser bar. I can click on it and all the pictures in the whole post come up. It must be something in your settings, because I know Cindy has said she’s pinning all my images. And I haven’t set anything that would prevent you from doing so. I do optimize the 2 images on my Grow plug in, so they come up first, but can’t figure out why you can only get one. Sorry, #techchallenges
It is wonderful that your birdhouse was made by your husband’s uncle. It looks great displayed with the nest and that neat bird book that you recently scored. The rest of your display also looks great and I particularly love your addition of vintage flower frogs. You do have a pretty morning view for your coffee drinking. It’s always a pleasure to see your version of each Pinterest Challenge.
Yes, hard to peel myself away from that pretty view some mornings…and my time with Him;)
HI Lora

I need to step up my game! It’s so pretty! Great job on this one! laura in Colorado
Thanks, Laura!
Thank you for this post. I love the bird theme.
Your so welcome, Rebecca!
I love using birds for spring decor and your ideas are so cute, thank you for all your inspiration. Have fun watching those birds, I know I will.
I can never get enough of birds; indoors or out! Thanks, Marlene:)
I love how fresh this feels, and oh my goodness you have so many cute treasures! Absolutely LOVE how you displayed them!
I love your birdhouse, how fun is that. So rustic and so perfect for this challenge. I love seeing how everyone creates their own version of the inspiration pic, so fun. Yours is delightful.
Lora, what a pretty reason to combine blue, white and green. Your birdhouse is darling and I love the combination of springy elements. Great idea to hang a picture behind your birdhouse vignette. Happy Spring, friend.
You truly have created a gorgeous vignette. I adore the collection of vintage frogs. The artwork on the pie safe is genius!
