Simple Spring Basket Door Decor
Arrange a pretty spring basket for the perfect door decor with this simple how to

Baskets are the perfect accessory for your home in the Spring! And they can be found so inexpensively secondhand. Thrift stores, estate sales and garage sales usually have a pile where you can pick your favorite. Here’s how to craft a Simple Spring Basket Door Decor for a pretty welcome in your entryway.
Today I’m joining my Pinterest Challenge friends, headed up by Cindy at County Road 407. You’ll get lots of pretty ideas to decorate your Spring entryway today. And probably plenty of ways to use a thrifted basket for yourself, or to gift!
If you’re visiting from The House on Silverado, wasn’t Niky’s French Country Floral Basket Arrangement beautiful? Wouldn’t mind popping that right in my home somewhere! The rest of the inspiring ideas will be at the end; hope you can visit them all.
Pinterest Challenge Inspiration Pic
We do these Pinterest Challenges monthly, and it’s a great way to use what you already have (since most of us have plenty already;). Who else loves use-what-you-have decorating ideas? Especially when the price of gas and groceries keeps going up!
All you need is a pretty picture to inspire you; then you can run around your house gathering, or hit the thrift store to find the rest! Here’s the pretty scene Cindy chose to inspire our ideas this month. It’s from the lovely blog of Karen from Sanctuary Home Decor; she has amazing style.
Karen arranged a pretty basket with fresh flowers and a few faux ones tucked in, and hung it on her door. Honestly, I’d never thought about hanging a pretty floral basket on the inside of my door. Such a fun way to brighten up the entryway for Spring!
Our back entry is our main entry and is space challenged, but I’m always thinking up new ways to combine function with pretty. I recently got THIS new rug to brighten the space and I’m loving it’s whimsical style. Now if we could just finally put away the winter coats, it would be so much cuter.
(find cute floral shoes HERE; I rounded up quite a few choices!)
Here’s how to arrange an inexpensive, fun basket to hang on your door, like in our inspiration photo!

Gather Flower Basket Arrangement Supplies
Here’s what I grabbed from around the house:
- a basket I picked up in a curbside pile (I always sniff them to make sure there’s not a musty smell)
- faux flowers-a few tall ones and a few roundy ones
- greenery-a couple big hydrangea leaves and a few feathery ferns
- floral styrofoam (THIS kind is best for artificial flowers)
- wire cutters
- moss roll (THIS isn’t the exact kind I have, but it makes lining a basket much easier)
How to Arrange the Floral Basket
I did not use hot glue when arranging this basket, because I’ll probably pick it apart after the season and pop the flowers back in color-coded faux flower bins. It’s totally fine to enjoy your decor for a bit and then rip it apart; less to store!
First, line the basket with the moss roll (around the inside) and cut a floral styrofoam piece to fit tightly inside.
Then insert large leaves at the base, so the green will set off the flowers. Mine had a little bit of stem left so they could be pushed into the styro. But you could also hot glue them in place.
Clip flower stems so you only have a couple inches to stick in (yes, they are way long when you buy them…go ahead and cut as needed) Next, insert the tall flowers either in the middle or where the back of the arrangement will be.
Starting to look pretty, right? Now add the roundy flowers between the leaves and the tall flowers to fill in the space. I used hydrangeas and peonies.
Lastly, I added a few sprigs of ferns for a feathery touch and to add more greenery in the arrangement.
Hang Your Spring Basket as Door Decor
Now to hang your masterpiece! Yes, more of a wall basket would hang nicer on my door, but we’re using what we already have today, right? And honestly, even when it gets knocked a little crooked by the men-folk in my house, it still looks cute:)
I screwed an old cup hook into the door and used a bit of leafy wire (get it HERE) to keep the basket in place.
So pretty and fresh for Spring! Yes, it would be nice if you could see green leaves outside the window, but Spring is taking it’s sweet-old-time coming to us here in MN this year! At least the snow has finally melted!
