Inspiration Pic
Here’s our fun inspirational graphic for this month’s theme. The metallic gold accents along with the red, white and blue are exactly what I was wanting to evoke with my summer hutch display. And notice the eagle on the top of the flag pole. Think you will definitely see how my Patriotic hutch coordinates with this sweet vintage postcard!

Decorating with the Latest Thrifted Finds
Just like other people love to wear their new outfits right away, I love decorating seasonally with my latest thrifted finds. I’ve had a busy and successful Spring of treasure hunting on curbs and at church and estate sales. So, of course I needed to use them in my Patriotic decorating;)

Somehow this adorable little plastic Independence Hall souvenir caught my eye at a church sale. I almost passed it up, and then realized it would be perfect for Patriotic decorating. Do you second guess yourself when you’re thrifting, or go with your first hunch?
I almost squealed when I spotted this big, porcelain bowl in a curbside pile. It’s gold eagle was just what I needed to add to my 250th display.

I picked up someone’s lifetime of trophies on the curb. I’m still brainstorming ideas on how to upcycle all the fun pieces. But I tucked their little eagles in the garage sale free pile of dishes I scored last summer. Yes, the cute little blue calico napkins were in another curbside pile. There’s nothing that makes my heart happier than free vintage finds in a curbside pile:)

Dishes as Decor
Inexpensive thrifted dishes are the cheapest way to decorate your home. If you’re pulling together a seasonal display, hunt for dishes in colors to coordinate. Then stack, hang, line up, and prop them to your heart’s content! {See “10 Pretty Display Ideas to Turn Your Dishware into Decor” for more ideas}

Most of these soup tureens were from thrift stores. They just have such an elegant shape. I love the gold ribbon design to add that metallic, special touch.

Yes, I also display old flatware as art. Mr. Fix-it is sentimental about retro star silverware; he remembers using it as a child. I’ve been picking it up whenever I find it thrifting. I simply grabbed a hand full and popped it in an ironstone white pitcher.

Red, White and Blue for Patriotic Decor
Any other red, white and blue accessories become Patriotic decor this time of year. Old suitcases, a cute minnow bucket find, a vintage thermos; they all turn into summer hutch decor when styled together.

Add the Fun Details
Words and lighting are always the cherry on top of my seasonal displays. THESE little faceted candle lights can be used anywhere. They have like 3 attaching options. They were more blue than others I have, but ended up being perfect for this scene. You can switch out the colors with a click on these, which is great for party and seasonal decor.

I hung this easy Happy 4th DIY garland banner across the top. It’s available for free in my Insider’s printable Resource Library. Just sign up to get my newsletter HERE, and you’ll get free access to all my fun and helpful printable resources.

This easy foldable ruler star can easily be upcycled with hot glue. Get the tutorial in “Easy Vintage Folding Ruler Stars How To”. I just whipped up a couple more for my booth; so fun to pull out for the 4th of July!

Patriotic Summer Hutch Display
Yep, I had way too much fun pulling all my “new” finds together for this Patriotic hutch display. As you can see, I have started collecting white ironstone platters and somehow a white ironstone pitcher collection has developed, too? I’m not usually a whites collector, but sometimes new collections just kind of happen;) I have realized I love the backdrop of white in this hutch and layering seasonal colors in front. But yes, I have waaay too many dishes; I am a dish-a-holic.

I threw one of my favorite vintage patchwork quilts on the table. It reminds me of little flags. Think I got it for $10 at a local estate sale. I love how it adds all the summer colors to the red, white and blue. A rustic, divided tool caddy holds blue ball jars and cut flowers and hosta from the yard. I tied a flag ribbon around the handle. A perfect, easy, summer centerpiece with fresh Patriotic style.
