Start your Christmas Porch Decorating with a Theme
This year’s porch decorating theme started with a fun handmade sign I picked up at a vintage shop. I loved it’s folk-ish style and size. The uneven lettering makes it look even more like a sign that would be at the entrance to a Christmas tree lot or farm. (for a similar-looking sign, see HERE)
I hung the sign on a large window chalkboard we used to have in the living room. Multi-colored lights hung around it remind me of an old-fashioned tree lot. I tried my hand at some chalk art, filling in the spaces with a forest of trees behind. A basic wreath with a plaid thrift store scarf finishes off the wall art nicely!
Decorate your Vintage Farmhouse Christmas Porch with Old Winter Toys
Vintage sleds, old skates and vintage skis can easily be refreshed and used to decorate your Christmas Porch {“How to Refresh Vintage Sleds”, “How to Refresh and Style Vintage Skis”} Simply add fresh or faux greens, berries, pinecones and some ribbon or a scarf. Instant winter and Christmas decor!
Decorate Your Outdoor Porch like your Indoors
If you have an overhang with a little barrier from the weather, decorate your space like you would your indoors! Create centerpieces on your tables, add candles, and drape a cozy blanket over the arm of your chair. You can also attach wreaths and other decor to the backs of your furniture; no one will be sitting on a cold metal seat in the middle of winter anyway. It might as well look cute! (for a similarly colored blanket see HERE)

Make the View of your Porch Beautiful from the Indoors Too
We enjoy our decorated Christmas porch almost as much from the inside. Especially when it’s cold and stormy out! Place your outdoor decor where you can enjoy it looking out your windows. Our favorite spot to sit in our comfy kitchen seating area looks out to this pretty scene! And right out the back door embraces the wintertime beauty, too.
Lights, Lights, and More Lights!
Christmas lights don’t just have to adorn trees and the peaks of your home. You can add them everywhere! Tuck them into your winter greens containers, add them to roping, put them in your windowboxes. The more the merrier! It makes the winter nights so much more enjoyable!
We’ve got lights in containers next to the garage, on the porch steps, by the front door entrance and all around the deck. We usually place an electric candle in every window for old fashioned charm (you can get them HERE). We even hung a couple grapevine balls with lights on a tree that hangs over the driveway. With a layer of fresh snowfall, it’s all magical at night!
The outdoor pots are beautifully styled with dried hydrangeas and foliage from the garden, along with bells, berries, pinecones and giant snowflakes {“Easy Crib Spindle Snowflake”}. But as you can see, once a heavy wet snowfall hits, the only thing that matters is the lights!
I hope you enjoyed this outdoor tour of the Fake Farmhouse on a perfectly snowy eve! Hopefully you got some decorating ideas from Our Vintage Farmhouse Christmas Porch! Now to get the inside all Christmas’ed up as much as the outside is!

Those old tree loppers…just had to keep them in the scene because of their great green color! Thx for noticing, Tania!
Fake farmhouse ???? Not one bit! LOL! Your porch and view is absolutely magical and one of my favorite!!!
I just say it’s Fake because it didn’t come with a cool old barn or outbuildings:( Thanks for your wonderful compliment, Christy!
I love your vintage porch, Lora! You have such a great collection of things. And I’m totally jealous of your snow!!!
Yes, the collection has grown over many years of buying and selling, Suzy! And snow does add that perfect cherry on top!Thank you!
I am smitten with your porch, it’s right out of a Christmas movie! I especially love how you filled your urns and adorned your light standard, I’m going to have to borrow that!
I love decorating our outdoor spaces, Laurie; there’s no space limitations like there is inside!

Thanks, Julie! Will try to send a snowstorm your way;)
Beautiful. The snow is gorgeous. I love all your vintage touches.
It was snowing beautifully that night, Katie. Just in time for the pics! Hasn’t happened since, either!
Your porch is just magical! The white lights and snow is just beautiful.
Aw, thanks Maryann!
Lora,
Your porch is so fun! And it looks perfect with all of the snow. That sign is such a great find. And your view from inside looks like something from a Christmas movie.

Thanks, friend! I just love when we get these pretty snowfalls; so perfect for picture-taking!
Seriously Lora, every one of your photos could be a holiday postcard! Your vintage farmhouse is absolutely breathtaking. Talk about a warm welcome for guests. Pinned
Thanks, Marie! Now if I can just get the inside looking as cute! Slow going over here…
Oh my golly! I love each and every photo. Are you sure you don’t live in a Hallmark town? So beautiful! Love your porch and everything you did. AAAAHHHHH!!! So charming!
You crack me up, girl! I wish my little town was as pretty as a Hallmark movie…and that me and the mister looked like those beautiful couples!!
So beautiful Lora, and I love all of your vintage touches. I’m not a fan of snow but it does make your porch, and house look magical with all of your Christmas lights.
Thanks, Kristi! Yes, snow is the perfect finishing decorative touch, indeed! And we love it here; makes cold winter’s bearable!
Oh my heavens, that last picture of your home in the snow took my breath away! It just oozes charm and warmth. You have done a fantastic job decorating it to make it welcoming. I love the idea of using skates and other outdoor ‘toys’ to decorate! I need to look and see what I have laying about that I could use.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Hugs,
Lynn
Wonderful, Lynn! Hopefully that means my photography skills are improving! I was pretty damp when I came in from snapping those pics, but it was so quiet and beautiful out; wish I had a video of it!
Christmas is certainly at your house, at least on the porch, lots of lights. The lights look so pretty on the outside even in the snow, i just know your neighbors love your house at Christmas time, i know i would.
Thanks, Marlene! My neighbor has gorgeous lights, so I think we both enjoy each other’s-win/win! And it’s looking a little like Santa’s workshop on the inside so far:(
Great tips and ideas Lora. I often look for an old sled to put on the porch when I’m antiquing with friends. I haven’t found a good one yet but one of these days. I love your skates on the door and the snow-covered everything is so beautiful.
Thanks, Patti!
That porch tree is so darn cute, I love it!
Thanks, Bliss!
Oh my gosh!!! I love your house! How wonderful to look out your window at such a beautiful scene. And the outside, it looks like a picture postcard for the season. Good job!!!
Thanks, Vikki! We do love the beautiful surroundings, and it is magical after a pretty snowfall:) Perfect picture-taking time!
What a beautiful view you have of your stunning outdoor decor from inside your home! Wow…I could just sit there all day and stare at it. So very pretty!
It makes for a good place to sit and work on the laptop;) Think it’s our favorite spot in the house!
Your house looks amazing lit up with Christmas lights surrounded by snow! I loved seeing your porch and your creative ideas for decorating it. I also enjoyed seeing your shots of the porch taken from inside of your home. Love it all!
Thanks, Paula! Yes, I know you like those full view shots so you can picture the room;)
