Garden Shed Decorating Theme in the Studio
decorate any room in your home with a garden shed theme. Here are fun decor ideas that combine vintage finds with DIY projects. Beautiful garden decor style you can create anywhere.
If you love the idea of having a gardening She Shed, but doubt it will ever happen, this post is for you! Instead of dreaming of that perfect space, pull out your vintage garden tools, get creative and make some pretty! That’s what I did with this Garden Shed Decorating Theme in the Studio.
Today’s post is part of our monthly Pinterest Challenge, organized by Cindy at County Road 407. Cindy chooses an inspirational pic for a talented bunch of bloggers to design around. It’s so much fun to see where everyone’s creativity takes them!
If you’re visiting from Decor to Adore, didn’t you love Laura’s Summer Garden Themed Dining Room? Laura is so creative and is inspired by themes in her decorating, like me:) I always love to see what she comes up with for these challenges.
The Inspiration Photo
This month’s inspiration pic comes from our dear late friend, Michelle from The Painted Hinge. We were blessed with Michelle’s amazing creativity on many of these blog hops and we all miss her dearly. She styled her entry with garden style for a Spring into Summer blog hop. Here’s the beautiful pic we’re all designing around today.
Design details I want to include:
- drawers/cubbies
- green vintage books
- violas
- wire containers
- vintage flower frogs
- clay flower pots
- seed packets
- twine
- moss
- chalkboard backdrop
- lots of foliage
Here’s what I came up with from the inspiration pic. Time to gather up all the gardening goodies!

Start With the Foundation
To design with a black chalkboard backdrop, I decided to style this look in my office/studio. Above my island desk we hung an old painter’s scaffolding shelf. It’s a great place to decorate seasonally for inspiration. (You won’t be seeing the rest of the room quite yet;)
A lot of trips up and down 2 flights of stairs later, I gathered the foundational pieces and the gardening accents. (aka a home decor blogger workout).
A piece of artificial grass laid a green foundation. I placed the large pieces first so they would be balanced along the length of the shelf. I also hung a vintage viola framed print that was my mom’s and my recent DIY Seed Packet Flower Pot wreath. Macrame pieces on either end adds a boho vibe that’s hip.
Layer the Accessories
Next I layered all the smaller accessories, adding levels with books, angling tools and clay pots. Michelle’s color scheme was more subtle. I went for a more vibrant-colored look to last throughout the summer months. Violas and pansies are a cooler Spring plant here. I added a lot of faux succulents along with the grass for an all summer long gardening vibe.
I brought in a lot of different textures together, too. Metal drawers, garden tools and flower frogs combine with a wood divided drawer backdrop. Clay pots, old books and plenty of foliage give that garden shed decor theme that can be enjoyed in any room of your home.
DIY Seed Packet Garland, a Final Touch
To put 2 of Michelle’s ideas together with her flower twine garland and the seed packets, I whipped up some super easy seed packet garland. I printed off vintage seed packet printables (find printables HERE), cut them up and decoupaged them to ripped fabric squares. In 4 piece sections, I strung twine through punched holes in the corners. Instant art!
Garden Shed Decorating in My Office/ Studio
Yes, I’ve always dreamed of having a cute She Shed to decorate with a gardening theme. Why not enjoy it in the room I spend a lot of time in-my office/studio? You can create this fun decor theme in any corner of your home; it’s perfect for the summer season.
{no, I am not a clean desk-kind of person:( Being a visual person means I’m a post-it queen}
