Early Spring Decorated Shelves with Classic Vintage Style
Seasonally decorated shelves can kick off your Spring decorating ideas for the home. These Early Spring Decorated Shelves will breath Classic Vintage Style into your home.

Early Spring starts softly. There’s still plenty of white on the ground here, but soon subtle spots of green and brown will show. The birds will ramp up their song and begin building nests. Let’s take these cues from nature and decorate a little space to kick off Spring. Hope you’ll be inspired with Early Spring Decorated Shelves with Classic Vintage Style!
I’m joining my Pinterest Challenge friends today, but…our creative leader, Cindy, from County Road 407 has renamed our series, Design Challenge. That way she can find design inspo from many more places than just Pinterest. She’s so smart:) Still the same concept: one image, many ideas for you!

If you’re visiting from Thistle Key Lane, I’m sure you were inspired by Michelle’s lovely floral Spring vignette; I think everything she does is picture perfect;) I’ll have the rest of the inspiration at the end.
Design Challenge Inspiration
Today’s Design Challenge inspo pic is from one of our favorite vintage style influencers, Liz Marie. If you don’t follow her yet, definitely start! The image we’re designing around is on her Instagram, HERE.

Liz lives in a northern climate, like me. Spring obviously comes later for us, but decorating with white along with colors of nature is a great way to begin the seasonal decor change.
Design Cues:
- Mostly white decor accents and flowers
- White and green color scheme
- Classic shaped, footed vessels
- Wicker, brass, concrete, metals-lots of subtle textures
- Swan print art
Even though our challenge was a Spring vignette, mine spread to a whole bookshelf at the end of our upstairs hallway. So nice to see some Spring happening in my house!

Art as Spring Vignette Inspiration
The easiest way to get a vignette started is to use a piece of art as your inspiration. I picked up this classic vintage “Spring Song” framed print recently. I just loved the subtle, yet vibrant colors and the sweet image. Supposedly this is the artists daughter, who was blind, listening to the bird’s Spring song. You can see her eyes are closed.

Here’s the beginning of my styling. I have a little bookshelf at the end of our upstairs hallway between two bedrooms. When I come out of our bedroom, this is straight ahead, so it’s nice to have a pretty, seasonal vignette to look at.

Starting the Spring Decorated Shelves Display
Before I start styling, I shop my house for all the necessary shapes and textures to coordinate with the art print. Yes, this involves lots of going up and down stairs, since we live in a two story house and much of my decor stash is in the basement. Good workout day;)
I found a lot of footed vessels for that classic style. Terra cotta, concrete and pottery, along with brass and copper watering cans will layer the textural look.

Then I added in other bird themed accessories-a new to me bird cage, nests, eggs.

White Flowers for Early Spring Decor
White flowers give that early Spring snowy effect. I used Lily of the Valley, tulips, and lilacs along with mini topiaries for the classic garden vibe. English cottage topiaries are definitely having a moment, by the way…and I couldn’t be happier about it:)

Adding in the Layers
Once the main pieces are in place, I add in the extra textures. Old books have a way of calming a display and are great for adding different levels. (see “6+ Best Thrift Finds to Elevate Your Home Decor Style”).

I also added in natural touches that worked with the vignette-moss balls, birch branches, moss sections and green foliage. A couple wicker containers add texture, too.
How do you add light to a dark corner?
This end of the hallway does not have an outlet. But lighting adds so much to pretty vignettes and helps you enjoy all the pretty details at night. I’ve got two vintage pin up lamps here that I cut the electric cord off. THESE handy rechargeable bulbs come with a remote control with all kinds of possibilities. They are great for a spot like this.

Another of my favorite lighting options are THESE little battery operated, faceted candles. I use them in bookshelves and cabinets all year long. I just bought some more;) They come with a remote and many attaching options (clips, suction, etc.) They make a great gift idea!

Early Spring Decorated Shelves
This little Spring vignette was a fun way to kick off the season change, and will be a pretty spot for my eyes to enjoy! Here’s the overall look. I just got a pretty gold and crystal electric sconce from a friend. Can you see it in the top right?

What a difference this bookshelf made. You beautifully combined so many elements to make lovely vignettes for all the shelves. Much better view in the hallway.
Thanks, Carol!
Ooh, your shelves are brimming with seasonal goodness! I’m in love with the English garden vibes you’ve created here Lora! That little topiary in the urn is the cutest!
Thanks, Cindy! Yes, happy to have the English garden cottage style back:)
So many gorgeous urns! I love how you brought the vignette down into the shelves. Beautiful job!
Thanks, Missy!
Lora, I knew if anyone would have an urn collection it would be you! And your beautiful spring display did not disappoint! The artwork is absolutely precious too! Lovely post my friend!
Thanks, Michelle! Yes, whenever I spot a urn with great texture when I’m thrifting, it comes home;) Fun to style them en masse!
Lora, I love that you created multiple shelves! I have been having fun just studying all the different decor items; love the urns and florals and the beautiful (owl??) feather! Great idea to add the rechargable lights!!
Enjoy this beautiful hall display,
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
Think it’s a turkey feather? Who knows; don’t remember when I picked it up. Thanks, Barb!
Laura, this came out amazing! I loved taking in all the little details on the shelves. The sweet bird nests and that birdcage are beautiful, and I’m swooning over the green wicker tray. It all feels so beautifully pulled together.
Thanks, Wendy! Just scored that pretty little birdcage from a private estate and just had to get it’s gold self in there;)
Lora
Such a cute vignette. I love that print! Great job.
Thanks, Rachel!
You’ve seen that I’m a sucker for green, white and black, so I think your shelves look aaahhhmmaazing! The green and white really pops and the extra vintage cuties turn it into a magazine-worthy vignette. Makes me want to deal with our hallway. Thank you, I needed this sort of inspo. Now to find the time. And all the cute stuff! Love it all. pinned
Yes, I love the green, white, black combo too, Cindy! Especially for Spring:) Thanks!
So many great ideas and oh, so pretty and looks like Spring is here!! I love all of this inspiration and will certainly help me.
Still winter outside here, but needing to make it happen inside for morale;)
Just gorgeous. Love all of the early Spring touches! It will be here soon enough!
Sunshine and some teaser days definitely help!
I have shelf envy! This grouping is truly fabulous. The print of the little girl is just charming. Thanks for the tip on rechargeable bulbs!
Yes, they are so handy! Thanks, Laura:)
What a lovely view you have upon leaving your bedroom. I love English topiary but I can’t find the real thing anywhere here in South Florida 😟 you painting is so sweet and whispers Spring. Love the mini alabaster bird bath with all the birds and nests.
Yes, picked up that alabaster bird bath recently-not perfect, but I love the texture. I just use fake topiaries, which are pretty easy to find online.
