Decorating the Fall Porch with Vintage Junk Finds
Fun ideas for outdoor and porch decorating, using vintage junk finds and natural accents.
Fall is the most beautiful time of year at our Minnesota Fake Farmhouse! The sugar maples are at their peak orange and gold glory and the sun is at the perfect angle, giving everything a beautiful glow. I love to embrace the season and decorate the porch and outdoors with all the natural offerings our property has to offer. And one of my favorite places to decorate is our wraparound porch. Nature itself is what brings beauty to Decorating the Fall Porch with Vintage Junk Finds!
Today’s post is part of an inspirational outdoor Fall decor blog hop, dreamed up by Cecilia at My Thrift Store Addiction. Cecilia loves the Ann of Green Gables quote, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” Since Mr. Fix-it and I got married in October, I’m glad, too!
If you’re visiting this hop from At Home with Jemma, I’m sure you enjoyed her front entry. I’ll have all the other beautiful outdoor Fall decor links at the end. You’re sure to get so many ideas for front porch and outdoor decorating this Fall, from bloggers all across the U.S!

If it’s your first time visiting, I should let you know that I’m a vintage junker-to-the-core. For many years I sold vintage in other shops and then owned my own. The main way I filled all those spaces was to find vintage junk curbside; yep, I’m a picker. You can take the store away from the girl, but the love of finding good junk will still be there!
This past spring I had one of my best junking seasons ever {“Curbside Junking Vintage Finds, Best Ever”}. And since I’m not selling anymore, I get to keep all the fun stuff for myself! I’ve been refreshing them, and was so excited to use some of these “new” things on the Fall porch.
Hope you enjoy the Fall Porch tour, with all my vintage junk finds! Hopefully you’ll go away with some ideas, you can use, too!
Welcome to the Fake Farmhouse’s Fall Porch!
Pretty much everything you see came from the side of the road: planters, furniture, vintage accessories. It all gets scrubbed up and refreshed with paint, or whatever it needs to become beautiful again! Adding foliage clippings from the yard makes everything pretty.
Add Fresh Foliage Clippings from Your Yard and Garden to your Vintage Junk
Here are some of the things I foraged from our yard:
- hydrangea
- seed pods
- evergreen branches
- grasses
- pinecones
- logs
Many of these clippings will dry in place and still look beautiful.
An old minnow bucket is a great stand in for the lantern craze. The candle is protected from the wind and can still cast a pretty glow at night.
Cornstalks Provide the Biggest Bang for your Buck
Rather than get a couple cornstalks from the local farm stand, Mr. Fix-it and I took a farther drive to my sister-in-law’s parents hobby farm. We could cut down all the cornstalks my heart desired and they gave us fresh apples, too! Thanks, friends! So glad we added some fresh farm bounty to the family;)
Freshly cut cornstalks that still have a bit of green on them are my favorite way to decorate our porch posts in the Fall. The lamppost and the Edison bulb garland look so awesome at night with the light flickering through.
Add Many Types of Light to your Outdoor and Porch Decor
Outdoor light garlands are so popular right now; they really make everything festive. But old fashioned candlelight never goes out of style. I like to tuck votive candles in minnow buckets, under cheese graters and into mason jars for nighttime glow.
An old plastic Halloween yard decoration was a fun curbside find. His smiling face lights up the little corner!
Tuck Pumpkins…Everywhere
We’re past the pumpkin carving years, so I indulge in all the awesome funky pumpkins I can find! I tuck them in with the container plants still flowering and into any vessel or tabletop I can find!
Enjoy the Fleeting Fall Views
Oh, if only these beautiful October days lasted longer! We try to soak up as much as we can, whether it’s sitting on the back porch looking towards the woods and our ravine, or sitting by the chiminea with a cozy fire, gazing at the side garden.
Vintage Junk Looks it’s Best Surrounded by Nature
Maybe it’s the patina it’s earned through the years, but vintage junk finds seem to look their best in the outdoors, surrounded by nature.
Have Plenty of Cozy Thrifted Blankets to Enjoy the Outdoors
Thrifted plaid wool blankets are a mainstay on the Fall porch. I leave them draped over the swinging benches for a bolt of texture and color. Old, fall-colored quilts get refreshed and enjoyed outside, too {“How to Easily Fix an Old Patchwork Quilt”}.

Happy fall!
Lora My friend, I am in love with your porch and garden! I would never want to leave! And I am also totally going to use your idea of adding layers under my pumpkins with hydrangeas!! So smart and so pretty. You make junk look so good and so perfect for Fall! I hope school is going well for you so far. Pinning!
Thanks, Kelly! Yes, adding those awesome hydrangeas everywhere makes everything look good:)
Lora, you are a girl after my own heart! I may not decorate my home with what you call junk finds (but I sometimes do!), but they thrill me just the same as any vintage or antique item I may use! I’ve been known to snag curbside treasures many a time while walking with Mr P……he keeps walking, he gets SO embarrassed! Not me, honey! If I can’t use it, I can sure sell it! I LOVE your wrap around porch in its fall splendor of finds! I bet if those who discarded could see your reloved finds they would be: 1) jealous of your style 2) sad they let them go 3) ready to replace what they discarded. Bravo! Happy to be joining with you on this hop! Happy Fall (and Anniversary(!
Thanks for your sweet words, Rita! My hubs (and kids) have been embarrassed many times when picking up roadside junk. I just tell them I have no pride;) They’ve gotten used to it and learned for themselves that if someone else doesn’t want it, why not save it from the landfill, if they like it? Trash to treasure, indeed!
Lora it’s so nice to meet you! I really enjoyed touring your beauiful fall porch! And your gardens are so pretty! xoxoxo
Thanks, Stacy! It was fun to meet several new faces on this hop!
Lora,
Your vintage finds are just the best and your front porch is delightful! I have visited most of the U.S. but not Minnesota, I do hear that it is lovely and I can see that your Fall is spectacular.
I am a bit of quilt nut, so I am smitten with yours!
Great to share in this mini hop with you,
Jemma
I love old quilts with all their amazing fabrics, Jemma. My collection is ever-growing:)
You had me at vintage! This makes my vintage-loving heart so happy. So many beautiful pieces and you have each of them styled beautifully! Happy to be hopping with you today!
Yes, Jen, I’ve amassed quite the haul of vintage goodness in all my years of hunting:) Love to decorate with it, inside and out!
Lora,
Love it all and the piece with candle is great and I’d forget the lanterns for such a fun piece. You always rock it out.
Cindy
Thanks, Cindy!

Lora, your front porch was so much fun to visit! I love the “vintage junk” so much too!! My husband thinks I have a problem. But I can’t help it! haha Thanks for letting us visit with you on your front porch! Can’t wait to see more wonderful vintage junk from you! 😉 XoXo Aliya
Your hubs and mine can go to “wives who love junk” counseling, Aliya:) I’ve given up thinking he will ever understand; he says, “burn pile?” and I say, “gold!”
No one upcycles vintage goodies better than you, Lora, and your fall porch is no exception. I love all the goodies you’ve found lately and how you layered in so many pieces of chippy goodness too. Your quilt is beautiful and the perfect way to snuggle up this season. You have such a fabulous view! Hugs, CoCo
Aw, thanks, CoCo!I’ve moved my desk to where I can look out to the maples for the Fall season; I’m enjoying the view!
