I love seasonal decorating. But sometimes I just want my home to feel cozy and relaxed. To be comfortable in any season, or to be neutrally in between seasons. Hope these Cozy Transitional Decor Ideas inspire your decorating.

Use Many Different Textures for Transitional Decor
Whether you use color or neutrals, transitional decor should embrace a wide variety of textured accessories. Mixed metals, organic materials and a variety of wood tones will add textural interest to your styling.
A collection of animal bells display a variety of mixed metals, along with pewter pitchers and a brass owl figurine. Mixed metals add subtle patina and age.
Add Lots of Layers and Stacks
To achieve a collected over time aesthetic, add lots of layers and stacks to your display. Small stools, cake plates, stacked books and little cupboards can be added to shelves for that luscious layered look. Stacks of plates add interest, too.
You can see I’ve got stacks of old wooden cigar boxes on the shelves, and up top there are stacked vintage suitcases. Stacks of similar accessories that have subtle differences creates a calm display that still has visual interest.
Plenty of Neutral White
White (and cream) is a calming neutral color and can be added to any color palette. Ironstone platters and plates are neutral backdrops that can be used for any season. They add brightness to the display. I’ve started thrifting a collection, because they look so good in the back of a shelf display. Everything pops in front of them. Notice the white platters in the back on every shelf.
Foliage, Always
Fresh plants bring life to any display. Tuck them in here and there. I stuff plastic bags in the bottom of containers so the plants will sit higher. Choose low maintenance house plants for all seasons green. Trailing plants will drape beautifully off shelves for a romantic look. And you’ll be breathing better in your home, too!
Cozy Lighting Adds Ambiance
Tuck in different types of lighting for cozy decor. Twinkling fairy lights can be woven through displays and set on timers. Battery operated candles can be turned on with a remote. And rechargeable small lamps can be tucked in anywhere and turned on with the touch of your finger. Little spots of lighting here and there create beautiful nighttime ambiance and gives your home that extra special touch at night.

Love the suitcases on top of your hutch!
I agree, the neutral palette is both eye pleasing and restful. We have a lot of antique wood furniture in our home with their original finishes, which are in great condition. – I use lighter colors to balance the darker wood.
So pretty, Lora!! Love all the neutral colors and pops of green plants. The wooden items really do make everything feel super snug for the winter months!
Laura as always your transition is spot on. I too believe that some collections are too great to be tucked away for a different season. I love my collections and choose to keep working with them and reimagine them.
So glad you enjoyed it, Shelley!
To be honest, as I have gotten older, I enjoy leaving my decor “as is”
year round and don’t do big seasonal changes. I might put out just a few accent pieces for each holiday. I enjoy that just as much. Guess I have gotten lazy!
I leave mine also , during some of the seasons / holidays I may put some little things outside but other than that it stays the same. Plus I do not have room to store all that stuff.
