Cozy Cabin Theme for a Special Friend
My friend, Sarah, was having a big birthday-the big 50. Another friend texted and asked me if I’d help with table decor for the party. Of course! The party was going to be in a reserved room at a golf course restaurant. Someone sent a pic of a similar room, so I kind of had an idea what the space would look like.
Right away I knew we needed to do a cozy cabin theme. You’ve seen Sarah’s adorable cabin in “Decorating a Northwoods Cabin with Vintage Camp Style”, and “Vintage Cabin Decor Ideas for Cozy Style”. She’s a fellow vintage lover and can’t get enough plaid blankets and thermoses;) I let the other ladies know we needed to do a red, black and white theme with lots of plaid.
Vintage Thermoses for Flowers
I knew I needed to arrange the centerpiece flowers in vintage thermoses. I had three that would work, but I needed to hit the antique store to find two more patterned red ones. The long table seated 20, so 5 thermoses would be a good number for the length.
I gave them all a good wash to start. You never know what scary basement or garage these old things have been in and what’s been crawling over it!
I hit Trader Joe’s for flowers. I knew for sure I wanted those red tipped white carnations, St John Wort berries and the gold globe things for color and texture. I got a couple bunches of green foliage also, and some deeper red carnations.
When the flowers were all arranged, I tied simple jute twine around the necks for added texture. It also coordinated well with the brown thermos. I hung old 5 0 numbers from two of the thermoses, so I could face them towards both sides of the table.
Adding Cozy Layers to Each Place Setting
I figured I couldn’t use chargers on the table, since I didn’t know what shape plates the restaurant had. But placemats would give each place setting importance and give the party favors and name tags a foundation.
Evergreen and birch bark paper placemats added rustic natural style to the table. (they’re usually available during the holidays: I found some HERE) You could also use any type of rustic wood type placemats for the natural vibe.
Sarah said this party would be her own Eras tour, since friends from every era of her life were coming:)
Custom M & M’s in a jar with themed ribbon were favors, along with mini Nothing Bundt cupcakes. Dog lover pics in each were a cute touch.
Plaid Touches for Cabin Style
The centerpiece was grounded with a red grain sack lined runner. I wove thrifted plaid winter scarves around the thermos flower arrangements throughout the length. Twinkle lights added sparkle. Two rechargeable lamps added a cozy, home-like touch. (find the lamps HERE)
A blanket in Sarah’s favorite pattern draped a table for gifts. Even though it was a restaurant, the room felt as cozy as if it was in someone’s home.
It was actually nice to have fun with the party decor and not have to cook anything! Also, everyone could order what they liked and needed for dietary restrictions, etc. Great party idea when you can’t fit 20 people in your home.
To top it off, there was a pretty light snowfall during the party, which was perfect for the cozy cabin vibe.
If you know a cozy cabin-loving friend or loved one, definitely host a cabin-themed party for them! It was so fun to pull together the look with vintage and thrifted finds…and beautiful Trader Joe’s flowers, of course.

What a great idea and using thermoses for flowers along with plaid throws/scarves how cozy. Love it!!! Will have to try this while camping.
Yes, this would make your camping extra special:)
It does look so cozy, know they all enjoyed this pretty setting.
It was a special day:)
Lora, this is so fun. Love the rustic touches of plaid and grain sack. The flowers are wonderful. We don’t have a Trader Joe’s near us, boo hoo. You did such a super job. I bet everyone had a great time!
Bummer for no Trader Joe’s, Debra; you’d love it. We had a special day, indeed!
That table decor is so FUN! Your friend will remember her bday and might ask to borrow the thermos vessels this summer. Another plus you don’t need a huge bouquet to fill them. Good job!!!!!
Good point, Roxanne! She actually had dozens of her own thermoses; but she doesn’t usually get the treat to have fresh flowers in them! Hopefully she’s been enjoying these all week:)
Adorable, Lora!! Such a cute theme and perfect for this time of year! Love the thermoses….the red flowers are such a beautiful addition!
Yes, this would be a cute Valentine’s look, too, Rachel! Thanks:)
So cute! I love the idea of using thermoses for the flowers!
Glad you enjoyed it, Susan:) Thx!
