Sweet and Simple Mini Christmas Stocking Garland
Craft charming mini Christmas stocking Garland with this simple how to.

Let the Christmas crafting season begin! This time of year everything I see hanging around my house gets the ideas dancing in my head; if only I could snap my fingers and have them all made! Today’s project has been hanging around half-done. Time to bring this Sweet and Simple Mini Christmas Stocking Garland to life!
Today’s post is part of our monthly Pinterest Challenge, organized by my friend, Cindy, at County Road 407. If you’re visiting from Thistle Key Lane, I’m sure you loved Michelle’s beautiful homemade Christmas stockings. I love Michelle’s style. Pinterest Challenge Inspiration
Our inspiration photo this month is an amazing Christmas mantelscape by Home by Heidi. Heidi used a classic Christmas color combo and hung beautiful stockings from her fireplace. Enjoy her home tour for even more beautiful ideas.

Design cues:
- Classic Christmas colors
- Bow on top of stockings
- Subtle pattern on fabrics
- Red ornaments that resemble berries on greenery
Rather than decorate with full size Christmas stockings on a mantel, I went mini with this idea and finished a craft project that’s been waiting to get done; always a good feeling! Here’s a fun way to make your own mini stockings.

Materials Needed:
Scrap fabrics: I used vintage linen kitchen towels and old grain sacks
Fabric scissors: THESE are my favorite to cut fabric, THESE to have next to my machine or for embroidery and crafts.

Mini Christmas Stocking How To
First create a mini stocking template out of cardstock or cardboard. Cut out your scrap fabrics in the stocking shape. I cut mine from the finished lined edge of a vintage linen kitchen towel.

Because the linen fabric is thin, I cut a backing shape from an old grain sack fabric that was a little thicker. I didn’t want these to feel flimsy, and they hang nicer if weightier.

To finish off the top edge of the grain sack backing, sew a fold at the top facing the back. You could also do this on the front, depending on your material. My kitchen towel front had a finished edge already, so I skipped it.

Sew front and back pieces of stocking together on front, close to edge. I used the presser foot as a guide. Leave top open. (the clips are nice-you don’t get poked with pins).

Lastly, cut baker’s twine in 24″+ sections for each mini stocking.

Sew a doubled section of the baker’s twine on the top right of each stocking. Just tack, going back and forth a couple times to anchor it.

How to Use the Sweet and Simple Mini Christmas Stockings
My original idea was to use these little stockings as a garland. You can simply tie them to twine to create a sweet garland for decorating. Hang on greenery, a cupboard, a mirror, or a bed. You could stencil numbers on them and use as advent stockings, tucking in treats for every day.

Or use them singly, tying them to a tree, a gift, or a homemade treat (like a loaf of bread, jar of jam or syrup). Tuck in a bit of greenery and a candy cane or cinnamon stick and dried orange slice. Such a charming presentation!

These were so easy and fun to make, and a great way to enjoy vintage scraps of fabrics. I will definitely be making more! Can’t wait for the rough edges to fray a little more for added homespun texture:)

Lora these mini striped stockings are just adorable, and what a difference it makes to use vintage fabric! They are simply charming my friend! Great minds do think alike! 😉
Thanks, Michelle. Have a couple more to sew.
Only you have such fun scrap fabrics. And I laughed out loud at “Let the Christmas crafting season begin!” That seems like torture to me. However, I do hang around the house and move things around. That makes me happy. James told me once that some nights he thinks he’ll wake up in the middle of the night and I will have moved the nightstand. He’s not wrong. 😉 I love your garland. It actually makes me want to knock the dust off the sewing machine and make one. But that’s a thick layer of dust. Looking forward to seeing your home tour! pinned
Thanks! Think I need the elves to come to my house and pull it all together;)
Lora, I love your little Christmas stockings! They look so festive hanging off the bed springs. 🙂 The baker’s twine reminds me I need to pick up some more. Pinned to several of my boards.
Enjoy your sweet stockings and Happy Thanksgiving,
Barb 🙂
Thanks, Barb!
The grain sack makes the cutest little stockings! Love them. Pinned for later.
Thanks!
These are so cute, what a great idea, thanks and have a blessed day.
Thanks, Marlene:)
Lora

I’ve always loved stripes:)
Lora, these mini-stockings are so cute. The twine gives them that extra touch of whimsy. Hanging them on the wire rack is a great idea.
Thanks, Carol! Think I’ll definitely be making more:)
