Are you a hosta lover? They are one of the easiest perennials to grow in your garden. We have been adding and dividing different hosta varieties in our yard for 20+ years. We have over 1000 clumps of them on our 2 1/2 acres. A great reason to come up with a unique way to enjoy them! These Simple & Easy Hosta Leaf Succulents were inspired by a professional florist I saw online. Hope it inspires you to make them!
Simple & Easy Hosta Leaf Succulents

Materials needed:
Different types of hosta leaves, 5-7 of each type
Garden twine
Scissors
Vessel or vase of water
How to Make Hosta Leaf Succulents
Lay your freshly snipped hosta leaves out by kind, smallest to largest. Similar color or style variations grouped together look the best. I made one succulent more solid-looking and one with variegated types.
Cut off a piece of twine 18-24″. Set aside. Begin holding and placing the smallest leaves in your hand so it looks like a flower.
(this would honestly be cute with a center of another type of flower;)
Then start the next layer with the next larger leaf type all around. Place the next layer in a “windowpane” fashion, between two of the first leaves.
Here’s the variegated version in process:
Keep building your succulent using all the types you have, or until your hand can’t hold anymore. The last large leaf stems can be diagonal. Hold them carefully so they don’t snap.
Wrap the twine section around the handful of stems and knot. Continue wrapping to get a firm bundle. Knot again at the end.
Give the ends a fresh snip and place in a vessel of water. A big stoneware jug or crock with a wide mouth looks great with these giant succulents.
These impressive floral arrangements are great for a party. They could be used as centerpieces, bridal bouquets or en masse on an arbor, like I did for my daughter’s wedding. Hosta leaves keep quite well for a couple hours and still look good.
I think it would be fun to style a bunch of them in different sizes and styles on an old metal bedspring, maybe as a photo backdrop for a party?
